You are the FIRST tennis instructor, the FIRST... I have encountered in over 40 years of playing tennis, taking club lessons and watching on the internet for years.... that teaches this principle in a serve motion. Thank you. I noticed many years ago that the only, the ONLY common movement that all pro players share in their serve motion, men or women, is that they finish their toss with their arm full extended above their shoulders just prior to starting their forward/upward swing. You can spend hours looking at tennis match footage and you will see what I mean. So, if all pro players are taught this technic, why aren't recreational players taught it? Why do trained tennis pros at clubs throughout the US (I have taken lessons from CA to NC) not teach this simple method of tossing the ball in order to establish consistency in the toss? I have never understood this dilemma and the results are very easy to see at any club in the country. Players are totally inconsistent in their serve and a big factor is their inconsistent toss. Your drill is just what is needed. Thanks again.
I agree totally teaching the correct serve appears to be a problem for a lot of tennis coaches. This guy has obviously studded the method at length and his ideas make a lot of sense.

"Keep lifting" also keeps my head and gaze from dropping, helping me focus on ball contact. I'm completely enjoying the long journey to a better serve.

Thanks for the vid. I'd like to add that the arm lifting and straightening is also linked to your body leaning (and some leg bending) during the toss. When you lean your body back you become able to align your toss arm with the ball and achieve a straight extended upward arm. If we just stand and toss forward and do not lean our bodies back and look at the ball, it is very unnatural to straighten arm upwards completely in that stance.
I learned to play in the dark ages (wood racquet) and was taught to toss while holding two balls in my left hand. This forces me to lift the ball rather than toss it. Holding the second ball ensures that I don't turn my palm upward, which has the effect of eliminating the possibility of flipping my wrist. It's a lot like I'm holding an ice cream cone and then trying to lift it straight up. Sadly, the toss is the most consistent part of my game.

Hi Tomoz, I can understand the reason as you mentioned totally, but I have a confused question when I struggle with my first flat serve. Typically I need toss the ball little forward into the court, so it comes easily the tossing arm is not vertical as 90 degree to the ground, seems I have to keep it certain angle. How can I image that on this way??? Really hope get your kind advice
Shoulders should start turning before the tossing starts but in this video I am just focusing on the arm therefore I am not rotating my body like in a real serve because then it gets too complex to focus just on the arm.

I have really bad tossing habit, I always flick my toss backwards n the ball runs around from the serve area... This exercise helps a lot thanks

Possibly, although I would focus more on the rib cage under the tossing arm and look to feel a stretch there.

Shoulders should start turning before the tossing starts but in this video I am just focusing on the arm therefore I am not rotating my body like in a real serve because then it gets too complex to focus just on the arm.
As we toss, we take note to knee bend n stick out our left hip, this "keep lifting" effect will automatically be achieved right?

you need to release the ball when it reaches between eye level and top of the head. otherwise if u release it too late u toss it backwards

keep lifting should be accomplished by lifting the front hip.
Try using the "elevator phrase" to see if that work better with visualization for your students.
