You obviously haven't watched many of my videos if you think I only show the bad bits. This channel is about showing all sides, not just the good bits.
I worked at the president hotel as an apprenticeship in the kitchen roughly 8-9 years ago. i remember so clearly, the head chef Phil and sou chef Andy would over work me so much because regardless of how many hours i did, the working-based apprenticeship which in the long term would grant me a qualification whilst getting paid along the way; the catch is, the payment is capped at £63.90 per week. I remember doing double shifts 8am-12pm then back again at 4pm-8pm. I did this 7 days straight for 3 weeks. The entire time slicing literal kilos of vegetable and making powdered bisto gravy. My whole 3 weeks there i never cooked a single meal.. therefore i left. One hilarious detail i remember vividly is the Head Chef Phil, he stayed next door. At the much nicer Imperial Hotel and often on his lunch and dinner breaks he would walk over and spend his breaks there and ordering meals of their menu because he didn't like the food from the President Hotel! (the food that he cooked) i'm so glad i was wise enough to leave when i did but even more annoyed for not leaving much earlier.
It’s hard to believe, that some of these Hotels lie empty, while places like the Norbreck still operate ( worst hotel I have stayed in, EVER ) Keep up the good work Stephen ✅
Great video. Sad to see my town being allowed to close before our eyes. I have sung at most of the hotels on the front and was resident singer at the Kimberley for several years.
The greatest holidays of my youth were in Blackpool. The Pleasure Beach and the arcades were simply mind blowing for a kid like me in the early 80's. Magical and yet it is so sad to see neglection.
Just found you tonight. Blackpool has always been one of my favorite places, I've had some really fun times down there and can't wait to come back. It's such a shame that some of the hotels are in such a state. Take care and stay safe.
I loved the old Warwick hotel. Used to stay there on all our trips to Blackpool over the years. Was fairly basic, but staff were always fantastic! Pool was nice too. Shame it’s gone.
Even the decent ones look like Fawlty Towers. Used to DJ and do New Year Eve gigs in the Warwick, Scarlett's and a few others on the prom. And most of them were dilapidated then!
Thank you for your historical knowlage on all buildings and hotels in Blackpool...i have some nice memories of visiting blackpool since 1970s but rarly go these days as i was assaulted by strangers on 2 diffrent visits, so it dont feel safe to walk about in now.
In the South those old hotels would be turned back into houses, or flats and sold. Massive need for housing down here. Although to be fair demolish and start again would be the same in some places. Depends how far gone they are. The rooves on some of those places look pretty bad. Amazing to hear so many people and their opinions on what "killed" Blackpool, the trouble with the UK has always been the weather and as soon as air travel was cheap enough, we all went off to Spain (etc) thats what really killed the British seaside. Like most people the British always like to blame somebody or something other than themselves. I've been Blackpool a few times, loved it, but was just saying to my OH, that you could spend 4 weeks in Tenerife for the cost of a week in Blackpool. That doesn't help either. Its a hell of a shame, I've always enjoyed spending time there, it is what it is though of course.
Another great video, the amount of hotels that have closed on the promenade, since my late mum sold hers in 2005 is unbelievable, its so sad to see but I know first hand how hard it was to fill a small family hotel and make a profit. The rates alone on them must be colossal and to fill all them rooms impossible.👍
I stayed in Hacketts a number of times in the 1990s and it was already in need of modernisation. I heard that it had recently been bought to be turned into a care home/old peoples home.
The relative closeness of Spanish resorts to the UK,and cheap flights /all inclusive deals ,along with much better weather in Spain are generally regarded as having killed off a good deal of British resorts, from about the 1970s.
Hi my very first hotel in Blackpool was colerseim by coach station ..its sad to see hotels so very run down , it will be off putting for many which won't do well for blackpool your recovery and everything depends on holiday makers its hit on everything all over thanks for tour love'the sea.....x

My sons mates dad owns the Hackett hotel.it’s such a shame that the Blackpool hoteliers turned this into a stags and hens place from being family friendly. That’s what killed it.
4:29 was The Southdown, we used to stay there a few years ago on our self organised miners weekend. We all worked at Agecroft Colliery in Salford. We also stayed at The Ambassador too. Do you think we are a Jinx?
I loved the video sir as always, I love the tours of the back streets. What a sorry state of affairs for this Street... depressing Keep up the great work
Stayed in the Royal Carlton a number of years ago, they did not even have a lift back then, but the owner was a lovely bloke called Vaughan told me he was going to build a scenic elevator, and he has, it's a lovely hotel, I believe it was closed for some time due to damage caused by a fire in the hotel next door, but still has the same owner
Not stayed in those hotels pictured but feel very sorry for Blackpool. Before the Lockdown I went to stay for 5 days in Spring/summer and and another 5 days 'Turkey and Tinsel'. Always had a really good time. It is also the night time entertainment, an artist, some sing songs and jokes, some dancing, raffles and bingo and meeting people. Just love it. and of course not expensive. In the day time you can explore the neighbouring places. I hope Blackpool will recover and we can go and have a good holiday again. God bless Blackpool.
The Kimberley Hotel and the hotel next door are both for sale. The estate agent ad says the site could be sold for redevelopment given the state of the Kimberley demolition is now the only course left.
Yes, Forty years or maybe fifty they would have all been goldmines.Guaranteed prosperity for their owners. QUite surprising to see new ones being built now that the old crowds have departed.
Great Vlog as always this time next year there may be Even less Hotels if you believe it all .stay safe my friend I'll enjoy the Prom at Bispham as always Merry Christmas
Re Lords Hotel. We started staying in Blackpool in 1994 at the Lansdowne Hotel down Crystal Rd. Lords is on the corner of that road and as far back as then it was closed but every year there seemed to have been some effort to do it up, although it never reopened
Just found your Channel . I live overseas and worked in Blackpool for many years. Loving your work. You could describe the inside of a paper bag and make it sound interesting ! Fantastic Thank you
Nice to see you set off down the back street up South shore by Red Court. Had many happy years staying here during the 70's. Always went in the Warwick bar just before dinnertime for a game of pool and play on the space invader Trying to remember the former name of the Royal Carlton. I spent my first honeymoon in during 1985 when Lords Hotel next door was quite posh....or seemed so
Its a real shame to see how Blackpool as been run down. Always enjoyed my trip to Blackpool in late 60s and 70s.always packed happy face's everywhere. 2021.just dome and glom.
Harper Beach use to be the Argyle 10 years back. Stayed there many times and even ended up covering the DJ there on nye for an hour lol. Nice people, but the hotel was getting very tired and in need of mass repair. They were scots owners and had a lot of their family say there. Shame it never had investment at that stage. This hotel is now in a really bad state and will cost a fortune. We stayed at The Lord's just before it closed about 20 years back. They had managers in there and nice people. They were doing the roomes up one bay one as an ongoing project. I think it was at 50% room restoration when we went. It closed the year after and had lots of work, but never seems to get finished. Large hotel. We now stay in the hotel at the beginning of your vid The New Esplanade. One of the friendliest cleanest most welcoming hotels in the town. It can be a challenge to find a really good hotel tbh. Recently stayed at the Valdeen and that was taken over the day we arrived. Lets hope the hotels get back on track. PS Always love your videos and it keeps us in the loop as we are 120 miles away in sunny Tamworth. Keep up the good work Stephen and love your massive pic in Cleveleys kitchen.
Thanks. I wonder if Lord's will ever open. By the way, I took the Cleveleys kitchen pic with an Inspire 2 drone but I since sold that because it was a bit too advanced for the amount of work I was doing back then. I still have a Phantom 4 Pro, a Mavic Pro and more recently a DJI Mini but I've kinda given up on professional drone work although I am currently doing a GVC course, but it's more for myself than to do comissions.
Stayed at the President Hotel in October 2019. Was still open then, but struggling. I must have been given the worst room in the whole place, as in, Room 219 which had a view of a brick wall through the window, also which was very small. The Atlanta Restaurant was the very best part of it however.
What happened to The Manor Hotel on Central Promenade. It was next door but 2 the Foxhall. I know there was a fire at the hotel a few years ago. I used to stay at the hotel every year from 1996 to 2002 approx.
Interesting history. I wonder about the wisdom of having so many these very large hotels, maybe the hay days of Blackpool was the 60's or the 70's. Happy Holidays, Stephen !!
I think the 70's was probably the last hayday decade as the Jumbo jets were just becoming popular by the end of the decade. The jumbos took a lot of travellers to the continent, mainly Spain, that might have normally holidayed here.
Don't think "Jumbo's" ie 747' took many folk to Spain, they were for long haul flight's and are currently rapidly being phased out, but I get your point.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video that was so interesting such a shame put some money in them would be some fantastic properties wishing you a merry Christmas xx
Been watching that tv programe about the President Hotel. Looked like it was in a state of disprepare then, and I think that was in the 1990s. Not surprised it closed down really.
All the large seaside holiday towns tell the same sad story. Cheap and cheerful Mediterranean package deals are the first choice of many that can actually afford a proper holiday nowadays and the Blackpool's, Morecambe's, Margate's and the like have been left to rack and ruin with the once grand hotels converted into swanky apartments and many small hotels and guesthouses were purchased cheaply by bottom feeder landlords that deal in grotty bedsits and HMO's. That said, Blackpool are spending serious money and are properly trying to sort the place out and let us not forget most of the town is fine and many new improvements are underway.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool actually Margate, which I visit a lot as a good pal has a holiday flat just off the seafront, is doing OK and seems to be improving all the time. I think that's largely because of the high-speed train running out of Kings Cross that started a few years ago which makes it accessible from London, and as a consequence commuters have been swapping pokey little flats in the suburbs for a house at the seaside. That's why Brighton has done so well for decades now. Blackpool's got a lot further to go though I suspect, not least finding a way to cast off the 'sleazy' image it has in a lot of people's minds, and I say that as someone who used to visit regularly up until the '90s.
Interesting video to watch however the new modern hotel you said opened early 2020, I stayed in this in October 2019 it's called the boulevard.. nice hotel 👍
Some of these buildings may be run down but they are substantial traditional builds. With renovations they can be made to look almost new again. Those modern builds won’t stand the test of time. They look good at first but soon show signs of deterioration. Just my viewpoint on the architecture 🤔
They don't build stuff like they used to. A friend of mine said the other day that she will never buy a new-build house & prefer to stick to properties pre 1950's.
Also the fact that the modern materials of that Hilton (which looks completely out of place btw) won't do well in Blackpool's salty weather I would imagine - give it another couple of years and it will start to look very shabby.
The Waldorf/The Kimberly/The Henderson, for sale as a joblot for a cool £3 million....with permission for 88 flats - "all require demolishing before development takes place". Its a good job you are documenting these buildings as they wont be around for long :(
Been staying in Blackpool quite a bit lately, B&B's and hotels, they're all in disrepair regardless of how much you pay. But I sort of like it, unpretentious and real life is what I think keeps bringing me back there. Stayed in the Metropole last time, beautiful building, but nearly got the door to my room kicked in by yobs at midnight, I had to lay there in silence until they went away, they were taking turns flying kicking the door, mistaken room number. Security wouldn't do anything, scary stuff.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool well it's not put me off Blackpool, could have happened anywhere these days. Back up on Saturday for some night photography up the tower. Loving your vids mate
If the sea front road was pedestrianised this would make at least part of Blackpool worth visiting as a resort. Probably a thought too far for the Council.
If that happened then people would be unable to drive through the illuminations and perhaps people would be dissuaded from visiting Blackpool. Not sure if people would want to walk the mile/mile and a half through them.
Please stop showing the shit bits, your town is great and has lots of memories for many people. I have yet to see you promote any part of Blackpool.

I miss going to the cliffs. Thay have it all there. Leisure entertainment the lot. Not been in almost 2 years due to this joke of a lock down.
The Lords Hotel has been like that for year's now unfortunately....I think what ever redevelopment was suspended
Literally the Venice of England given a helping hand to crumble.
Perhaps only the tower will be left standing like a monumental headstone.
another great video.. have a great christmas.
Yes there are plenty of developments going on. Hopefully we will take a break from going abroad and holiday in the UK to help our own seaside towns.
The second hotel was The Ocean Waves, not sure when it closed though. Not been to Blackpool for years, sadly it depresses me now :-(
Ahh, went past it in my taxi this morning, that's what attracted me to this video, to find out its name. Ta very much.
You can imagine Charles Bronson lurking about in those depressing back streets
Hi Steve,
Yet another cracking Vlog.
Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year 👍🏼
Cheers Paul. Have a good one.
The World Hotel on Landsdowne Place, North Shore is in quite a state too
I must check it out.
Really interesting videos. Thanks for the content
Would love to see an update on some Blackpool hoteles
I did do an update on this video a few months ago.
Merry Christmas Stephen. Hope you have a good one and hope you have a better 2021.from me and June.
Thank you. Merry Christmas Michael and June.
❤️ haven't been this far back on your videos Steve, you with no beard 🧔 still enjoyed it. 🤗
I had to have another watch nice one Stephen 👍
@@peterstean2138 Yeah, the new Hilton doesn't impress me at all. Looks out of place next to the Headlands and Waldrof Hotels. Architecturally boring.
Great vid very interesting Stephen.🥰
The Waldorf/The Kimberly/The Henderson, for sale as a joblot for a cool £3 million....with permission for 88 flats - "all require demolishing before development takes place". Its a good job you are documenting these buildings as they wont be around for long :(
Had some great weekends in the Claremont
Keep up the good work👍
Thanks, will do!
Wow that's scary. You shouldn't have to put up with something g like that.
@@AWalkontheWildSideBlackpool well it's not put me off Blackpool, could have happened anywhere these days. Back up on Saturday for some night photography up the tower. Loving your vids mate
Stopped going it’s run down to much I just go to skeg Vegas now way cleaner and parking is cheaper
