What's even better is she's my wife and this is the FIRST time she went mountain biking with me in 15 years of marriage, LOLOL. We were like 3 minutes from the trailhead after riding about an hour. She had made so much progress. And then this utterly inexplicable fall occurred. We still don't know exactly what happened. I actually made a fun video to share with friends and family that I posted on my youtube channel if you want the whole story: ua-cam.com/video/yMNvF6J9aFA/v-deo.html&t
@@eightlivesdownmtb Thanks, she was in a lot of pain. I cut it off right before the very sad wailing in pain. Like, super sad wailing. Luckily at the parking lot, which was a 5 minute walk away, two dudes were getting ready to ride one an EMT and the other a nurse. They had a fancy splint and sling and did a masterful job getting her ready for the ~6 hour ER wait. She was seriously so embarrassed to have had such an inexplicable fall. She's still healing but range of motion is good and she's in great spirits.
For real, we (this was my wife's first and last ride ever) have no idea what happened. Like, no clue. Front brake??? Shifting? Weight on bars? All of the above? We really don't know exactly what happened. @@MikeMountainBikes damn, that's sad to hear it ended up with an injury :( I hope she'll get well soon, and back on the bike again! But please teach her the basics first :D A good friend of mine also started mountain biking because of me. We live in a flat land, so the biggest downhills for her were bridges. When i saw that her bike handling skills should be enough for easy mountain trails, we went and tried it out. One thing i didn't tell her because i thought it was obvious (it is not), that she should keep breaking when going downhill, not just let it go and try to stay on the bike. Took me some crazy scary moments to realize what's going on, when she was just flying through a straight long slope with no brakes, disappearing in front of me in a cloud of leaves, branches and dust. Thankfully, she was lucky to not get injured, and now she's getting really good even with her almost 30 years old mtb. Now she won't stop asking me to go riding again and again :D
Pretty huge compression on that one. There's a bit of dirt on the wall on the right side, but stray slightly left and you'll have to soak up a pretty harsh transition.
Respect to all those uploading the videos! We ‘ve all been there and can relate to that -1-2 sec prior the crash-feeling…hahaha especially the “over the bars” one
Poor bloke going backwards with no choice at the end that happened to me years ago first and hopefully last time I’m ever knocked out. Woke up not knowing what day it was or where I was.
I had a scare like that. My long shirt got stuck on the seat when I was trying to get off, and I almost went straight back down a 10' hill with loose rocks. I was some how was able to put a foot down and turn 90 degrees. I sat there for a few seconds thinking about how bad it could have been. I am glad I always wear a helmet when I ride trails, in busy roads, and when I ride BMX.

We've (my wife and I) watched the unedited video of her falling DOZENS of times, discussed the order of events, the condition of the trail, weight distribution on the bike, braking? shifting? NO CLUE. But hey, here we are all benefiting from this complete mystery of a fail. For fun I made a video of the fuller story: ua-cam.com/video/yMNvF6J9aFA/v-deo.html&t
Just bought a cheap hardtail, haven't even ridden a bike in like 10 years.... definitely not going to attempt any sort of drop or air for a long time XD
2:32 The downside to riding today's bikes: you never develop the skill to pick good lines. Wow, it's like that guy had never encountered a deep crater before! Or the know how of how to get out of the gnar when you screw up! Growing up on rigid bikes with hard, narrow tires (by comparison to today) teaches the rider how crucial it is to scan and scrutinize what's in front of you, pick good lines and avoid the ruts! And again, how to survive when you choose badly!
Why dont you put a detachable bike rack at the back incase you need to carry extra bikes or when you need to use the inside space to carry for friends along. Change some wheels and put some lights 👍😃
