Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

We have had pythium issues the last couple of years and have finally traced it to our smorgasbord of cover crop we plant after barley. Our high organic matter is feeding the fungus is what we have been told, killing some of corn but some plants are able to grow out of it. Interesting to know we aren’t the only ones with this problem, unfortunately for all of us.

I would only dry to 14 if ur harvesting in early semptember and plan on hanging on to it for a year. Bin size is a factor too. Ethanol plant wants it at 15.5 here so we go to 16. Rather be on the wet side than dry side and loosing bushels

If you do insulate your shop you should also install insulation supports. There worth cost and effort. Great video again.

@@BorderViewFarmslook for a single axel semi to pull it. you can find one cheaper than a pickup truck and it will handle the weight much better. we haul full hay loads that way then just use a pickup for smaller lighter loads.

Check with Jacob's Supply in Temperance for insulation. I know they had a sale recently on barn insulation.

Just curious to see where you acquired the proximity lights for the wet bin. I haven’t been able to find a similar type. My 70 year old dad wanted to climb up and see how much wet corn we had before dumping another semi. I want him to stay on the ground. Thanks

emergence testing is so cool seeing the data in a raw form like that. Really sucks on the pathogen testing and stuff, would love to see how you fix this long term

I bet "beta" means that they are still testing if this measurement actually works. Like in software. You have it ready but you are still testing while already shipped to the clients.

do you think the ones that don't come up (emmergeance'ses) till after the 1st day, or ''day(s) later.... maybe cuz the seed is upside down and the root takes that next extra day or 2 to start heading DOWNWARD ??? eh... it's till in the good nutretnts so it shouldn't matter THAT MUCH should it? it's was a thought that pupped into my head,
    \
next day emergence could be 'cuz seed is upsidededown......

The shield on top directs almost all the heat down. I think the clearance requirement is only 12 inches above the heater
