I just LOVE this - my favourite Buddy Holly track. I was in an electrical superstore last week, choosing a really good speaker to get the best sound I could find. I asked the young salesman if he could play Dearest by Buddy Holly track to test the sound. He'd never heard of Buddy Holly but was quite happy to play the track on repeat ... LOUDLY ... and I found myself swooning happily at Buddy singing, in such a deep tone, those gorgeous words 'I Love You'. It sounded as if Buddy was right beside me, singing to me. WOW! I bought the speaker and am now happily listening to it at home ... on repeat of course!
As a 77 year old life long Buddy fan, I am surprised to say I have never heard this song. Must have overlooked it on an album somewhere along the way. The melody is definitely "Words of Love".
The Late Great Buddy Holly was my favorite when I just passed my common entrance examination to my secondary school education. Learned dancing from his music. Now over 80. And still missing him
I don't know how many people realize that the great singer/songwriter was also a great guitarist. Take 1 gives you an electric guitar in the hands of a musician who knew how to make it beautiful, a true musical instrument, not a noise-maker.
Insert your own family’s 8mm home movies from the 60s and try not to get emotional... Great Great Buddy Holly...what a gift. We might be the last generation to truly appreciate this Great Musician. P.S. He died in 1959 the year I was born.
Have faith :-) born in 83 and have loved buddy holly since I was a little boy. I have 4 little children myself now and they too hear him (and so many other greats) in the kitchen as I prepare supper. They like him too! :-)
Born in ‘09. I bring up all the classics like Aretha Franklin, miles Davis, buddy Buddy Holly, the Beatles the list can go on. And they get confused with questions like “who?”
ron kennington Don't you know that all these rock n rollers are in hell for playing the Devils music lol. They honestly used to think that too so those that said that are definitely rolling over in their graves with all the filth out here today. Rave on
this is actually one of my favourite videos on all of youtube, i don't think it was intended but the atmosphere the home movies added to the music itself is so captivating and emotional
Great song and Buddy Holly was even greater. loved the film clips, gee reminds me of growing up. I sure miss those days, today the world just isn't the same. It's just to modern, too fast and less quality.
Matt Merillo The fifties and early sixties were probably some of the best times ever. Everything was better back then from cars to the way our women treated us. I wish we could go back TIME MACHINE who's in
Truly great upload, here. The nostalgiac and beautiful family travel videos, were a treat to see. I assume it was your family. 🙂 Treasured times, I'm sure. And every version, of my favorite Buddy song, is equally magnificent. I'd say the raw 2nd and 3rd versions would my favorites. Liked and saved. Thanks for sharing.
Western Australia, yeah yeah! I have made a film of the western half (Oct 2014): search for 'AUSTRALIA - Round Tour - Perth - Port Augusta - Alice Springs - Uluru - Olgas - Kalgoorlie - Perth'. With regards from Rotterdam.
Amazing! The last version is more or less like Phil Spector, there for i love the 63 take, the howling guitar notes on the left channel, tnx for sharing this great song, makes me feel blue, long for the yesteryears,no socials,no Tesla,s ,no bombs ,no war!!
Amazing! I thought I'd heard all the versions of this great song; the original 'Apartment Tape' and the later overdubs, but 'Take 2' is completely new to me! It sounds like it was recorded in a different room, on a different tape recorder & with a different acoustic guitar - does anyone know more about it?
1963- with additions by the Jack Hansen Combo. 1968- with additions by The Fireballs produced by Norman Petty. For better or worse, the Petty over dubbed versions are the least offensive of the unfinished/demo/pre-Decca tracks. However, it is purely conjecture how Holly himself would have done any of the tracks, given the chance..........?
See for example 'BUDDY HOLLY INFO 09' (search in UA-cam) for more background information. Hope you like that. Dearest is one of the Apartment Demos of January 1959. Several of these were used for new releases after Buddy's death (with overdubs). See also my other 'BUDDY HOLLY INFO' postings in UA-cam. The last one (27) will be posted end November 2019.
I think I'm right in saying that Hollys producer Norman Petty re-worked the later versions of this song and used different musicians and backing singers. I think the Fireballs (from Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs fame) were used on the 1960s versions. The guitar picking sounds very like them.
Since Buddy Holly passed away in 1959, what’s with the versions from the 60s? Did other artists contribute to the song or were these alternate mixes using pre-existing material?
See for example 'BUDDY HOLLY INFO 21' (search in UA-cam). Dearest is one of the Apartment Demos of January 1959. Several of these were used for new releases after Buddy's death (with overdubs). See also 'BUDDY HOLLY INFO 09' for more background information. Hope you like that. Another good example is 'BUDDY HOLLY INFO 22' 4th version of 1995 (Buddy Holly with The Hollies).
Paradoxically, I think the 1968 version is the best version. The vocalists sound just enough like the Crickets. The worst version is version #3, the "Apartment" version.
The 1963 version of Buddy Holly's "Dearest" was likely scored by a group called "The Fireballs", who were responsible for "Sugar Shack" and "Bottle Of Wine", but I could be wrong.
I think that both the 1963- and the 1968-versions are overdubs of one of the versions from 1959 (Apartment Demos). These later versions were produced by Norman Petty in his studios in Clovis (NM), with The Fireballs. If you visited the Norman Petty Studios in Clovis (NM) in 2022 you could find there some of the instruments, like the keyboard of the striking sound of “Sugar Shack”. According to inside information The Fireballs were initially not happy with that extra keyboard sound, added by Norman Petty. But that changed when it turned out to become a world wide hit song.
No intention. Buddy was Buddy en we were we. Basically the videos (except the last one) were a copy of my 8mm camera family films of 1st half of the 80-ies. That's all.

Buddy Holly recorded many songs which were not released in his lifetime. In many cases, these songs were not intended for release in the form they were recorded, as he had put them down on his sophisticated tape-recorder only. Several so-called "Apartment Tapes" were recorded thus in his and wife's New York flat in December 1958 ,and January 1959. Practically all of these recordings were released in the years following Buddy's death, sometimes more than once, ans sometimes with varying overdubbed additions to the original put down by Buddy. In the U.K., as one example, posthumously released Holly recordings - as singles, EPs and LPs - sold extremely well, putting his name high in the charts again : 1963 was the most successful one in that respect, for hit singles.
Men den første blev delt i to: “incomplete version 1 and false start”. Så det må være to af de tre.
Know sush thing has old age we are programmed too think that way there is only a few woman and men know how too commbate it you need too look these men and woman up and time waits fore know its how you deal whith it i will leave you too think a bout and so much too see and learn what does god say youth is in me find it,

All I have to do is listen to today’s music to make me miss Buddy even more.
I love all these versions buddy Holly was absolutely a amazing musician 💕❤️ so sadly missed
I don't know how many people realize that the great singer/songwriter was also a great guitarist. Take 1 gives you an electric guitar in the hands of a musician who knew how to make it beautiful, a true musical instrument, not a noise-maker.
Remember the '59 version & still love at 72.
Insert your own family’s 8mm home movies from the 60s and try not to get emotional...
Great Great Buddy Holly...what a gift. We might be the last generation to truly appreciate this Great Musician.
P.S. He died in 1959 the year I was born.
Trust me your not. I was born in the 1980s and I'm huge fan of the whole era
Born in 79 and Buddy Holly was one of the first musicians my dad introduced me to when I was little. Loved him ever since
@@avoidconfusion Like I introduced it to my son (born in 73) in the 80-ies.
Have faith :-) born in 83 and have loved buddy holly since I was a little boy. I have 4 little children myself now and they too hear him (and so many other greats) in the kitchen as I prepare supper. They like him too! :-)

GOD I miss the 60's. Make my very sad..The best ERA for music by far....& ...today I am 70 years..
Much love for spreading this song.Love and Light to Buddy Holly and all his fans!
THIS IS A MASTER PIECE, I PLAY IT ALMOST EVER DAY, THANK YOU BUDDY.PS HOPE TO MEET YOU IN HEAVEN SOME DAY.

totally agree...NM
Bubby Holly may be gone but his music will be forever!
Buddy Holly And Rock'N'Roll never dies
The first track is my favorite. Wow, what a genius he was!
The thing I miss the most about Buddy is the hundreds and hundreds of songs he never had a chance to write and record in the last 58+ years.
Buddy holly passed away in 1959 so these songs I’m listening to are all from the 1950’s🇬🇧
Old demos from 1959 but the final version was released in 1963 if I recall
Welp it says it in the title
Great song and Buddy Holly was even greater. loved the film clips, gee reminds me of growing up. I sure miss those days, today the world just isn't the same. It's just to modern, too fast and less quality.

I dig both the '63 and '68 versions. Geez, getting away from his hits for a bit, Buddy was one talented man. Thanks for posting all.
Truly great upload, here.

Yes, we were travelling.
Buddy Holly was so romantic and passionate. This song is absolutely captivating. Hes absolutely capitivating and mesmerizing.
❤ My thoughts exactly, dear Sarah. I'm so in love with him it's silly.
I thank you for downloading this because it keeps me from having to hit the replay button as much lol
Thanks for sharing all these versions of buddy's songs beautiful
Buddy Holly lives..Buddy Holly Forever
BUDDY HOLLY LIVES!!!
I love all versions
I would love to know what kind of stuff Buddy would have put out if he could have lived another 10 to 20 years, or even lived to old age.
The 1963 version..oh god that haunting picking melody ! Shivers
There was a period of time (may be a full year) that my wife sang it almost daily. That’s one of the reasons why I posted this.
This 1968 version is very best music for me
Love every version of this buddy Holly song thanks for posting
He was the best of them all!!!!
Excellent, one of my all time Buddy favourites.
Oh... I loved all of them, thank you, so much for posting..!!

Great
Buddy would of ruled in the mid and late 60s, and 70s ,if lived
the original recording is the best
The last two versions is my best so talented musician 😍 I wonder what he would do now
Still make me cry
Probably would have produced some of the best music ever. He was a brilliant producer.
The greatest song writer that ever lived.
john homan indeed, me too

just a treasure
love this song, if i had to choose would go for the first 3
il risultato è ottimo.
God bless Buddy Holly and bless joetake holly .
I love this song. Mickey and Sylvia did a good version, but I like Buddy Holly's 5 versions the best.
0:05 , 1:58 , 3:13 , 5:10 , 7:04

1968 version (Giant) Just listen to that rhythm guitar ! Stunning.

Molto bello! Hug!
I'm pretty sure that the first and third versions are the same but may have been eqd differently.
Is possible, yes. I would have to analyse that more in detail...
I have now analysed it, and yes, they are the same. You are quite right. Thank you for your reaction.
とても最高❣
You give the impression that one of these charming kids is Buddy. I suppose that if that were true, you would make sure we knew the fact?
No intention. Buddy was Buddy en we were we. Basically the videos (except the last one) were a copy of my 8mm camera family films of 1st half of the 80-ies. That's all.
the '63 version sounds like Buddy picking the high notes on guitar, so i would go for this version as the best.
5:10
Beautyful
What does it mean when you say "1968" version, etc. Buddy wasnt around then. ?????????????????????????

Blev bättre o bättre.. Synd bara att Buddy inte fick höra slutresultatet..
