June 15, 1986: An EB UP freight picks up on the head end from the transfer yard. Also a few SP trains including transfer moves, one of which has an SD7 & an SD9 on the head end.
I was just finishing high school at this time in history. While most kids were busy playing sports and chasing girls, I was spending my afternoons train watching along the eespee tracks...lol
All the way it was the Southern Pacific was running the Union Pacific and the Santa Fe also. Powerful SD 45s no flyover. And the greatest thing freight cars that have not been accosted with crap on them.
The first time my buddy and I went to Colton was in 1977 it did not change for many years. I have books that have pictures of it and what went on from the beginning. One time a freight train derailed and took it out with Tower man ending up in a eucalyptus tree okay but scared very much
Sorry. I never got a chance to shoot those moves in the Brea area. There is a good video called "Fullerton Local" available on Amazon. Link: www.amazon.com/Fullerton-Local-Encore-Presentation/dp/B00I0GYONA I have it and It covers quite a bit of those operations. It's actually 2 discs and is 2 hrs. 50 mins. long. Thanks for the comment.
Video was good at times unfortunately it was very sloppy to, why didn't they film the entire manifest of all kinds of freight cars, that blue 87' high cube Northwestern BOXCAR would of been awesome to see go by, 😢😭😭 you cut the video right off but you did get at 10:48 that flat car known as a front runner car with a single truck on each end one axel on each end, let's see more.👍

Nice to see engines and rail cars graffiti free...
Indeed!
The history of the Santa Fe and the Southern Pacific at this crossing Pinkerton
THERE WAS A UP SWITCHER THERE TOO!

Caboose sighting!
high hoods and Z trains
The. Tower used to stand where the two square white sheds are located. That white grain elevator has been demolished
I went up in the tower once before it was torn down . It was frequently used as an outhouse by transients. Thanks for the comment.
also MISSOURI PACIFIC WAS THERE!
Did Colton have a roundhouse?
I don't think so. W. Colton was new in 1970's.
Old Colton had an engine house.
Look at all those flat car loads!!
Those kind of loads seemed to be common on this SP line.
I love your videos. Such a blast from my past!! Do you have any videos of the SP in Brea, CA, or the UP and SP in La Habra or Whittier?

I've appreciated your videos of these SP locations. Do you by chance have any of the Hollister SP Branch line? Gilroy to Hollister.?
Sorry I've never been in that area.
