The day I bought 10 O’Clock in the Afternoon was the day I realised NZ music could be better than stuff from overseas. And it was the day I started to be a NZ musician myself. Thank you Graeme, Jane and Robbie.
nothing like a local band saying "fxck it, i'm gonna give this a go"", and they come out with this, and you wonder where the hell did they get this idea from? - absolutely marvelous - i couldn't do better if i tried forever. I thank my old workmate Lee for introducing me to flying nun 20 so years ago.
Saw them many times in Dunedin, I always remember Graeme's cigarette burning away in the guitar head while he was playing. His guitar did kinda smoke when they played The Ballad of Harry Noryb
We aren't entirely sure - but believe it is Brett Hanson. From the band: "I remember him being there and facilitating the shoot, so yeah as good a stab in the dark as any."
Just a bunch of varsity guys that think they know it all. Roger Shepherd's had a horrible time of it and it's beginning to show. U2 kicks straightjacket fits arse. I'm from Tauranga, and these guys are just other new zealanders I should never have heard of. Are you from NZ?

Such a glorious shame this song went so under the radar, its a timeless gem!

similar era, and diy attitude, but they were from NZ and got no credit
Paul Weller classic music degree doubt it.
Not only sound as Graeme has a very similar strumming etc action to Weller.

I feel like this song had to be an influence on Robert Pollard/Guided by Voices.
Yeah a lot of the NZ bands influenced him. He has covered The Clean before.
@@max888123 GBV wishes they were as dope as the Verlaines.

Seems like the Arcade Fire got half their playbook from this band.

Jane Dodd
That is right . You can go down that rabbit hole by listening to the Able Tasmans, great Auckland band.
I don't know sorry
Screw R.E.M and The Smiths. The Verlaines were the best indie pop band of the 80s.
Dunedin written all over it...
Pretenders
predates them
