Thank you for the update and for absolutely gorgeous weather so far in Christchurch today, if you were closer, I would hug you. Thank you again. Take care.
Love the way the comments recognise that your forecasting skills are largely down to you actually *determining and supplying* the weather as well as letting us know what you're sending. So... thanks for the dreary and overcast day with warmer than usual temperatures, Phil.
Great presentation as always... So, I have a question about the wind maps. I'm really curious about the way troughs seem to swallow up the wind. For example, the trough or blue ridge in the bottom right, just north of Antarctica (by Philip's forearm) seems to be a southern terminus for the northerly air flow. Is there an easy explaination for that? Where does all that wind go?
The mountains around you - mainly the Nelson ranges - block the rain from crossing Nelson much of the time. Basically Nelson, just like Bay of Plenty, has a "U" shaped set of hills and ranges around you - the rain tends to only set in when it's a Northerly to NNW flow... then those same mountains and ranges make the rainclouds in Nelson even more intense. Nelson and BoP are the sunniest regions in NZ for a reason :) Phil.

I much prefer this higher-level of reporting rather than the more conventional reports which tend to fail by being too specific. Thanks WW team :)
Still the best Phil
Thank you Phil. Melbourne is in for a minimum temperature of 1 degree on Wednesday morning. Brrr!
