I wouldn't say the Plagas can grow you a new head. That's basically the parasite popping out and saying "Bitch, you think I actually needed that head?"
Yeah, the host was basically just a meat puppet with the plagas pulling the strings. And unfortunately for Leon, the puppet expiring didn't necessarily stop the parasite.
well less so a weakness to bright lights, more so a weakness to strong UV light, which is why they never leave their host in daytime (you'll notice them only ever coming out at night or indoors) an they die to 1 hit by flashbangs which are a source of strong UV, there's also the PRL-42 which is a weaponised version of the UV sergical tools Leon and Ashly use near the end of the game. so i'm thinking a good chunk of the experimentation that Los Illuminados was doing was to try and remove that weakness to strong UV, that i think they DID manage to do for the stronger strains, which was probably why whomever was having Ada get the sample knew of their reserch and wanted to jump ahead of the line an save time.
It's kind of hilarious to hear the versatility of the Plagas described as "almost infinite" now. It feels so quaint and potentially realistic in comparison to the mold.
Mold doesn't feel like it belongs in the lore, the megamycete and most of the things in RE8 are a bit absurd, even for Resident Evil. Plagas are better and superior. And even though they’re fictional, they still look far more realistic than the parasites from the aforementioned anime.
Those from RE4 were the "original" parasites. In RE5 they were enhanced by Tricell into the "Type 2" and "Type 3" versions to make them more efficient by speeding up their infection and controlling capabilities; if Leon and Ashley had been infected with Type 2 or 3, they wouldn't have survived their ordeal in RE4.
Krauser was given a weaker version of the Dominant Species by Sadler due to the fact that Sadler didn’t trust him to begin with, which is why when he fights Leon he’s able to keep his personality and mutate at will and control the parasite just like Mendez could, but I’m pretty sure Sadler anticipated his betrayal and would have altered his plaga in some way so he’s under Sadlers control.
