Me too, brother… This episode gets me every time. Those little Think-tanks are so great. 😭 I think, for me, it’s their loyalty that does it. Their instinct to do the right thing for Mr Bato. The tiny glimmer of Honor and the emergence of their humanity.
It’s their innocent little voices only wanting to help Mr Bato and his favorite Tachikoma saying goodbye to him that kills me. It’s also amazing that the fight consisted of these 3 AI coming up with a plan armed with only one grenade and coming out on top.
I'm so happy I'm not the only one still watching & [re]watching this series. The art, psychology and philosophy in it have stuck with me since my college days when it originally aired on [adult swim]. If you haven't watched 2nd gig yet then be ready to have your wtf button pushed constantly. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the narrative as a whole. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Thank you for posting new videos about this older but still gold plated show. I really appreciate knowing I'm not alone in having a current appreciation for it. 🖤👍🖤👍
Hey I'm happy you were able to find my reactions! I'm also glad to find others who appreciate this show like I do. I wish it had more love in the reaction community, which is why I started this. I'm also still trying to wrap my brain around certain aspects of the show and I'm still learning new things with each watch.
This episdode offers so much. The heroic emotional Tachikoma scene and a badass Batou moment and the major coming through with the revelation about their individuality after doubting them and in fact being the one resonsible of retiring them. That was beautiful. I, too, got emotional for similar reasons to yours. By the way I think that Batou is in love with the major but she hasn't got the same feelings for him. She deeply respects him and there's a dee p connection I think but it's not the same for her.
I think the Major might be incapable of romantic love as she's been in a prosthetic body ever since she was a little girl. Because of that, she dedicated to herself to learn the absolute limits to her body that makes her one of the best operatives in existence.
@@Codametal I know she's pretty detached. Her unique point of view make her view some relationship trades with amusement or even indifference but she's still a person. Incapable of love? Maybe season 2 reveals more of that side of her...
@@Codametal I think Motoko can relate to Hideo Kuze given that they both survived the same airplane disaster & were both in need of complete cyborg bodies because of that. and the fact that he’s trying to fight against injustice & prejudice even though sometimes in a misguided way. This doesn’t mean she has romantic feelings towards him but can see his good points and respect / admire him for those. But she is certainly capable of romantic love. She might be a cyborg & she pushed herself to be able to control her body like it was her real body but she still has a human brain and is still a person. She clearly has genuine emotions like anger, amusement, annoyance, sadness, happiness etc. She loves Batou although like he’s a brother or a really good life long friend. Like I said, she had a boyfriend in the manga, a relationship Batou said had lasted longer than most at 7 months indicating she’s had multiple relationships that Batou knows about. I think she decided when young to get as much potential out of her situation as a cyborg as possible and decided this could be achieved through a career in the military as an elite soldier. But just because she has this drive and ambition to be the best as you say, that doesn’t stop her having a personal life. Olympic athletes work hard to be the best, they have love lives. Soldiers in the military have girlfriends/boyfriends, wives/husbands. And she definitely likes sex. Her senses are all superior to normal humans, including her sense of touch and as she is able to record and export/sell her experiences with some equipment, she has no qualms about making amateur bisexual porn with her girlfriends and selling it online (at least in computer Matrix style simulation) and punished Batou for connecting to her at the time (he needed to get in touch with her about the Puppet Master). Plus while she wears provocative outfits as a way of feeling powerful and demonstrating confidence, I think she also enjoys flirting with people too. So yes, Kusanagi is capable of feeling romantic love, she’s a woman, not a robot.
They were trying to get rid of the Tachikomas because they were evolving so fast to the point where they were starting to have their own individualities and emotions. Ironically that's what saved Batou.
Definitely the saddest moment in this series. I cried in this episode as well. There are only two moments in this anime that made me cry: this one and episode 2.
My experience this time around was the same. Which is strange cause I never got that emotional watching episode 2 until now. Maybe I’m getting more sensitive at my age lol
This also made me cry hard since I watched this as a kid: it was my second time seeing beloved main characters being brutally killed-my first time was when all the sailor scouts, except for sailor moon, get brutally killed. My 5 year old heart was crushed.
Aye, Batou seems genuinely heartbroken. First "the office", then the Tachikoma, and as far as he could tell (he missed the clue of the missing watch), the Major.
If you look up the word Bato you’ll get the meaning of their relationship. Think of him as the Militia and her as the Nation. A love beyond the physical, or transcendent of it.
I dunno, what brought me to tears and hit even harder would have been Berserk, maybe Attack On Titan, Elfen Lied, Violet Evergarden, X if that counts. probably more, these were the first that came to mind. since GITS is not exactly an emotional story and more about the crime plot/ cyberpunk world / political intrigue
See, you were able to upload this without any silly and stupid screen obstructions. Yes, the footage is framed but it's nowhere near as bad as the first season reaction's framing lol. Too bad you can't go and re-do that one.
It’s a learning process for sure. You’d be surprised which parts gave me the most hassle that involved multiple re-uploads. Season 2 is even worse about it.

And they're essentially kids as well. They have been "born" like yesterday right?... I think that's where their kind of "purity" comes from.

A singular human trait, to have the ability to form bounds with non-biological 'life'...yeah had to use 'life' here.
