I only back up using mirrors. Looking out the back a have too little idea of the sides of the car and front end swing. Current car has a camera, which is very nice for seeing when the rear bumper is about to hit something, but in my previous cars I'd lean out the window to check that.

Parallel parking was something I used to fear when studying for the driver's test. My dad had his own technique for teaching me by taking me to an empty parking lot and using the parking spaces to guide me in what to do. That also not made me fear parallel parking and that was one of the things I did well on the test. I knew I had to master it because where I live, parallel parking is the FIRST thing they test you on. In the end, I got my license and parallel parking is no big thing for me.
My dad literally drove me to one of the most crowded cities in the state and made me parallel park and drive him around for 8 hrs. After that almost nothing phased me. Before that, his favorite words were "look what a perfect opportunity to parallell park." everywhere we went in our small town. My mom laughed at me when I started giving her the teenage "ugh". My mom has some issues with parking but she can back a trailer so it's not lack of skill but usually impatience.

This is why I genuinely believe that everyone should have basic knowledge of how cars work. Not only does it allow you to do your own maintenance, but it also gives you a basic understanding of how a car is going to handle.
It's really scary driving, not knowing if people next to me know how the basics of their car works. Not asking them to understand the intricacies of their vehicle. Just basic knowledge, the engine (otto cycle), transmission, brakes, suspension, especially the tires, and then maybe the exhaust and cooling system

When I was detailing cars the worst part of the job was getting into new vehicles that have beepers for every single thing. They even made shifters for dummies, you gotta pull up on the shifter boot/collar to put it into reverse. I really dislike what they have done with new vehicles. Same for the vehicles that are both gas and electric. Sat there once for five minutes my first time in one wondering why the vehicle wasn't starting, it starts out electric then switches to gas.

Lol Europe here if you fail your license test 3 times you have to go to medical and psychological assessment to see if your fit to drive. Non of them were on the road here (you have to be able to drive manual too btw)

The tests don't do shit to determine if you are a good driver. The written test is just memorization skills and the driving test doesn't even involve freeway driving.
Because in a lot of DMV road tests, they don't have you parallel park at all. I was taught to drive first in a parking lot before actually going out on the road. Brandon just doesn't need a license though... If you have a newer vehicle WITH sensors and STILL hit something then you're just BAD....
Honestly, I wouldn't do great with the trailer. I haven't had any formal towing training since I haven't upgraded my license to tow large trailers yet. And I only towed few times in all the years of driving.
My attempts at a reverse 180 IRL have been failures (empty parking lot), though I realize it is probably because I wasn't doing the initial small turn. Was hoping to try again this winter, but we didn't get any snow and I don't want to tear up the tires. Think I could probably do the trailer reversing, never pulled one with a real car, but done it in games and with RCs. Same goes for the parking lot, could do that easily, though if I got that Cadillac I might still fail as it looks larger then most of the parking spaces!
If she is ignorant enough to think crashing is normal for everyone then she could also be ignorant enough to think that insurance is only for when you get your car stolen. She could have only found out that insurance covers crashes as well when she came to this show. It wouldn't be the first thing that should really be common knowledge.

Parallel parking was something I used to fear when studying for the driver's test. My dad had his own technique for teaching me by taking me to an empty parking lot and using the parking spaces to guide me in what to do. That also not made me fear parallel parking and that was one of the things I did well on the test. I knew I had to master it because where I live, parallel parking is the FIRST thing they test you on. In the end, I got my license and parallel parking is no big thing for me.

My dad literally drove me to one of the most crowded cities in the state and made me parallel park and drive him around for 8 hrs. After that almost nothing phased me. Before that, his favorite words were "look what a perfect opportunity to parallell park." everywhere we went in our small town. My mom laughed at me when I started giving her the teenage "ugh". My mom has some issues with parking but she can back a trailer so it's not lack of skill but usually impatience.

It's really scary driving, not knowing if people next to me know how the basics of their car works. Not asking them to understand the intricacies of their vehicle. Just basic knowledge, the engine (otto cycle), transmission, brakes, suspension, especially the tires, and then maybe the exhaust and cooling system

When I was detailing cars the worst part of the job was getting into new vehicles that have beepers for every single thing. They even made shifters for dummies, you gotta pull up on the shifter boot/collar to put it into reverse. I really dislike what they have done with new vehicles. Same for the vehicles that are both gas and electric. Sat there once for five minutes my first time in one wondering why the vehicle wasn't starting, it starts out electric then switches to gas.

Sometimes I wonder this same thing for most bad drivers here in the 🇺🇸USA, where I’m from.
The tests don't do shit to determine if you are a good driver. The written test is just memorization skills and the driving test doesn't even involve freeway driving.
Because in a lot of DMV road tests, they don't have you parallel park at all. I was taught to drive first in a parking lot before actually going out on the road.
Brandon just doesn't need a license though... If you have a newer vehicle WITH sensors and STILL hit something then you're just BAD....

Honestly, I wouldn't do great with the trailer. I haven't had any formal towing training since I haven't upgraded my license to tow large trailers yet. And I only towed few times in all the years of driving.
My attempts at a reverse 180 IRL have been failures (empty parking lot), though I realize it is probably because I wasn't doing the initial small turn. Was hoping to try again this winter, but we didn't get any snow and I don't want to tear up the tires.
Think I could probably do the trailer reversing, never pulled one with a real car, but done it in games and with RCs.
Same goes for the parking lot, could do that easily, though if I got that Cadillac I might still fail as it looks larger then most of the parking spaces!
