    I was looking on Morph Market at cornsnakes, and I saw a number of ads using diffused, masque, etc with many of those animals not being very red at all. Now I understand what is meant by these terms in relation to the "bloodred", thanks for the explanation.

      Glad I could help! Bloodred is a weird one for sure... One of the more confusing terms

    Personally I think if I were looking to purchase a ‘bloodred’ I would want the genetics to be diffused and masque to give the pattern type and I would want it to have the deep red colour too.. if it’s lacking in any of the 3 qualifiers to me it’s not a ‘bloodred’ … just my opinion.. but to be fair I heard way back in the 90s that they had issues, possibly that it was a weak immune system or some sort of related issue. I personally steer clear of morphs with issues that effect health so wouldn’t choose to get one.

      That is definitely an interesting take! I've always thought of Masque being just completely separate, but I can see why you would want all 3 mutations to be there for a true bloodred... and I may have to change my stance on "RF+Diffused=Bloodred" - since Masque was a part of the original line that Eddie produced, it makes sense to need all 3.
      I also COMPLETELY understand why you would not want lines that had issues... that's why I dont have lavenders anymore. Whatever line of Lavenders I ended up with, they were very often kinked... no matter what I did! Fed the moms really well, incubated low and slow... still, all lavender visuals were kinked. they could be incubated in the exact same place as any other eggs, and the lavenders would be the only kinked ones. Diffused ended up in my collection on accident, but it's a happy accident as I haven't had any issues with them yet.

      @@SarahsSnakeShop yes, lavender is one I’m also steering clear of as too is pied, just invested into the palmetto gene even tho it has the possibility of bug eye, however that’s because imo even bug eyed individuals can have a good quality of life as a pet as opposed to some of the other issues with other morphs which can be disabling or fatal.. dealing with issues like that would take the enjoyment out of it for me personally as I’ve a soft heart

    I have some experience that probably means nothing, but wanted to contribute to the idea. I bought a pied sided blooded from SMR when he first discovered it. I was on the ground floor with pied sided as far as the public was concerned. I had a lavender blood red from Rich from the year before. I paired them as adults and got amazing blood-reds. The babies had the same sides of a pied sided with no white.

    • @SarahsSnakeShop
      @SarahsSnakeShop  2 роки тому

      So the sides were really, REALLY nicely diffused? Just without the white coming up? Sounds beautiful!

    • @JohnDoe-of9vc
      @JohnDoe-of9vc 2 роки тому

      @@SarahsSnakeShop They had the same level of diffusion as a pied sided. I bought the pied sided from SMR as a hatchling. His offspring looked just like him minus the white pied sided.

    This whole thing does still confuse me a bit. Back when I joined the corn snake community (in like 2012-2015) I was under the impression (and probably wrongly, as I didn't understand most of the morphs and genes or any of that) that bloodred was it's own gene. I have a 2015 "old school bloodred" male -- bloodred het charcoal ph sunkissed --, who was super dark when he was a baby, had definite saddles,w hite belly. As he's aged, he has gotten redder and redder, his saddles are not nearly as defined, and he now has a lot of "bleed through" on his belly.
    This past year, he bred with my lavender het amel ph anery female (from a Kathy Love line Okeetee) -- I wanted normals 100% bloodred lavender PH amel anery charcoal sunkissed for a project -- and I sadly only got one baby. Looks like a normal, BUT no belly checkers.
    I have been wondering for awhile if the lavender (and her two full brothers I have) might have masque in them, which would mean my old school bloodred would be masque +diffused, and this baby is masque 10% het blah blah... BUT I don't know haha.... I'll have to wait until he grows up....

    Had to come back to this video.
    I'm trying to figure out how to properly label my first ever clutch of snakes I've bred. The male was sold to me as bloodred motley, triple het anery, amel, hypo.
    The female was sold to me at anery motley miami hurricane.
    So I figured half would be normal motley and half would be anery motley. Which I did get. But on some cornsnake groups that I have posted the babies, I've gotten feedback from people that they see diffusion in some babies, and masque in some babies. And I am still new to breeding, so am not really sure what I'm seeing. Some head stamps do look like the examples of masque in this video. And some babies do have lack of pattern on the sides of their body. And many are without belly checkers. However. I've heard motley can also reduce belly checkers. So not sure if it's the diffusion reducing the belly checkers.
    And after watching this video my head still hurts trying to figure everything out.

    I think you have seen my Alexstrasza posted. she is a red diffused from the Joe Peirs Miami Bloodred line. She has alot of white mixed in with her red. She does not have the Masque mutation. Without the Masque mutation she is not a full red snake. Her pattern looks more like old school TV static around her very clear tessera stripes. When I list her morph for people I call her a Red Diffused Miami. Without that Masque gene she does not look bloodred

      It is interesting to me how much Masque really MAKES the bloodred look. I can definitely see how you would want all three: Diffused, Masque, AND the additional red to call a snake a "Bloodred"

    I need all of your knowledge, lol! I started learning ball python genetics & now decided to switch over to corn snakes. I don't know why these guys are so much harder for me to learn/identify. I'm so interested in genetics but its definitely a challenge for me. I haven't yet found a good genetic calculator (if you breed a x with a x you get = xx) and I think that's what helped me with ball pythons. Thanks for your videos, I'm definitely tuning in and trying to learn. How did you soak in all your knowledge? Where did you start?

    • @SarahsSnakeShop
      @SarahsSnakeShop  2 роки тому

      It has taken years! But morph market and Ian's vivarium both have great genetics calculators for corns! MM has more morphs but IV will give more detailed output. So you can switch between them depending on what information you need.
      I started about 10 years ago, actually watching other people's videos lol! I also spent forever on IV looking at different morphs... Back then, IV had descriptions of each morph as well, so it was easier to learn how to ID, but they've taken that information down as they've redone the website.
      So... I actually decided about 7 years ago to start compiling the information for the mutations and wrote a book about them! The information is all public, but it's scattered and hard to find... So I put it all in one place and published it for others who want to learn ☺️
      It's really just time... Lots of time. Looking at morphs & knowing what they are as you look at them. Getting a feel for their varying looks, and when the look is just different enough to look like something else instead. Especially with things like Ultramel vs Lava, or low Expression Masque vs Normal.

    I’m looking to buy a blood red corn. I saw ones with a completely gray head and ones that look like they have a mask from the movie “scream” lol. Some are all red with some saddles in a diff color and some have a lot of gray with the inside saddles being dark red. Which ones would give me the old school blood red look? What qualities or color should I look for.

    • @SarahsSnakeShop
      @SarahsSnakeShop  2 роки тому

      would a fire also be a bloodred amelistic?

    • @SarahsSnakeShop
      @SarahsSnakeShop  2 роки тому

      Technically you cannot get a bloodred by breeding 2 diffused together. The red modifying mutations and the masque mutation are both dominant / incomplete-dominant. So if 2 adult snakes don't show those mutations, then their offspring wont either. You could breed a diffused Masque & a RedFactor diffused together to get bloodreds.
      And I would say that Amel + Diffused is a Fire.
