    I’m just getting into corn snakes and their morphs and genetics and I just purchased a ultramel not knowing what ultramel meant and now I have no idea how to bread this snake in a couple years 😂 I’m so glad I found your channel and thank goodness you are putting out a new video on the subject I’m so lucky 😅💖

      This will definitely help understand it a bit better!! The genetics are a little difficult to understand, but once you get the hang of it you'll be golden! This is my favorite morph to work with!!

    Ok, you have really opened my eyes on this one. I'm in love with the lighter ground color in the ultra, like in the photo of the yearling. Hahaha love the preview of the next boom review.

      That male may have had a lighter ground color than some. However, there's no Miami or cinder in the line that would do that. So it does seem that ultras just have less saturation in the ground color overall.🤔😊

    This was such a great informative video, thank you! I was wondering about Ultramel vs. Amel differences, and you covered all the bases.
    If you need an idea for a future topic, I've also always been curious how different gene morphs and/or different pairings of localities or hybrid-crossing affects the appearance of the head-stamp on corn snakes - ie: some have diamonds, arrows, some have Tesla symbols, some are...probably not safe for work...XD

      That is a good idea! Those are harder things to ID, but it WOULD help people with ID!

    I loved this explanation. I have an ultramel anery tessera and was wondering about the rat snake heritage. He really is sweet and acts like any other calm corn. Thanks for your explanation of how they're so diluted at this point, so it's not really a factor :)

    Awesome! I am heavily into boas, along with other boids/pythons etc and while I love Colubrids, when it comes to the genes in Corns or Kings I'm much less informed. Are either of these T+ Albinism? In boas there's tons of T+ Albino variants from different locales, but in Ball Pythons Ultramel and Caramel Albino (a seemingly T+ albino) are also Alleclic. Great vids, thank you for the history and everything else!! :)

      We have a few gene mutations that we might consider to be T+ Albino, but we do not call it that. Lava is the one that comes to mind, and maybe Ultra that i talked about in this video. Back when these morphs were being discovered there was much less interest in finding out all of the details in the genetics. And more about just finding out how it was inherited, and how to produce more. Now that everything has a name already not too many people have the desire to research the genetics any further.

      @@SarahsSnakeShop interesting! I wonder if it's just because there's at least 10 different T+ Albino strains alone in boas that it's distinguished as such, considering some were discovered quite a long time ago. Plus it's a bit more obvious what's going on. That said Lava to me looks more like hypererythrism like Blood boas, tho without as much melanin production as adults. But again I'm newer to Corn Morphs. Thanks again for your vids, they are incredibly informative for someone re-entering the hobby and exploring species!

    Thank you for this, I’ve been waiting for this video!
    I bought a Snow and an Ultramel Anery to pair. (Any hets unknown) Turns out, my snow was not female as expected. :(
    So say you’re in my shoes. You want to breed for variety but also don’t want to purchase another Snow or Ultramel Anery because you like variety in your collection as well. What morphs/hets would you personally choose for their mates? I’ve been stumped for a month on what I need for these boys! 🖤

    • @SarahsSnakeShop
      @SarahsSnakeShop  2 роки тому

      Ahh poop! I hate when "females" end up being male! Had that last season and it fudged up plans!
      For the snow: ultramel het Anery. For the Ultramel Anery: Amel het anery.
      Alternative option for the Ultramel Anery: Anery het Amel. Or anything het both Anery and Amel.

    What would the results be if you bred ultra to ultra? Or ultra to normal?

    • @SarahsSnakeShop
      @SarahsSnakeShop  Рік тому +2

      Genetically ultra is just like any other mutation. So just like you can breed Amel x Amel and get 100% amels, ultra x ultra yields 100% ultras. And just like Amel x normal gives all normals het Amel, ultra x normal yields all normals het ultra.

      THANK YOU. This was my question haha. I have a snake that was sold as "fire, but possibly ultramel bloodred" and it *looks* like she IS ultramel, and now I'm trying to figure out how to label her babies haha...
      So any that are not visually ultra would be het ultra. THANK YOU THANK YOU!

    Aren't Corn Snakes a Ratsnake anyway? Prob interbreed in overlapping territory anyway, boas do the same hence there being like... Unlimited localities lol

    • @SarahsSnakeShop
      @SarahsSnakeShop  2 роки тому +1

      Yes they do naturally interbreed. They are not quite as closely related to each other as something like the Great plains rat snake, or slowinsky's rat snake. But they can all interbreed with each other pretty easily. Taxonomy is weird, especially when it comes to colubrids.
