Yeah its possible. They are resident pretty much all over the UK. They like heath land and scrub areas. You may see them in the hedgerows of gardens too. Eating seeds and insects.

Not good to do that, especially not during breeding season. I did it as a child to robins and they left and abandoned a nest :(

the green linnet was a common name for a greenfinch thou, red linnet was a goldfinch, linnet was a term for a song bird
