Well presented and super insightful! 👏 I agree, I don’t hate the barcoded stamps at all. This is a natural next step in the evolution of mail, using the technology that is available to us is long overdue…the RM is at least keeping the stamps and not doing away with them 😊. Love the award in the background, congrats on your incredible success Richard, keep it up!
Thanks, Graham. We use social media to promote this traditional hobby, we can also embrace the changes that new technology brings to it. Aha, you noticed the award.😁
Thanks for sharing the latest news with us about Royal Mails new rules about barcode stamps! You have so many good ideas. I think they should hire you as a consultant! I agree with you that the barcode is not pretty... But it has potential. I like the idea of scanning a stamp and seeing something else come up on my phone... Like more information like you said, or maybe if you can 'add a video' like a customized greeting to a friend. There is potential here but obviously seems like early stages still. Keep up the good work with your videos!
Good point: the elliptical perforation is useless against counterfeiting if the codes are scanned and stored. I think the main reason for the barcode is doing away with the stamped cancels: faster and more reliable (less moving parts) processing.
So what happens if someone sends a letter with a broken code or fake bar code or reused a bar code? Will that letter be thrown out or the person receiving must pay to collect the mail? I find those stamps hideous
In fact, Data Matrix has such a feature that it is still readable even if a small part is damaged. If the stamp has been used or has a fake barcode, it should be handled in the same way as it does now for insufficient postage. Of course we still need to wait for further explanation from RM.
@@discountedpost-com8954 It depends on what encoding you use. For the same code, if you use the same encoding method as RM, the resulting data matrix will also be the same. But I'm not an expert on this either.
@@discountedpost-com8954 sorry, I deleted some comments by accident 😅 It is possible to copy a data matrix. But one matrix can be only used once. If there are multiple identical codes appears, it is not difficult to find which one is fake.
@@RichardPhilatelist i see do you think the rm barcoded stamps will get checked by the sorting machine or is the barcode just for the qt mobile videos that you can watch once you scan the code

Thanks, Lisa. As you said it has potential. I’m looking forward for this new era☺️

Perhaps they won’t physically cancel stamps someday… it will be a bad news for collectors but it’s reasonable.
I know! Terrible since my passion is postally used with a nice cancellation!
Thanks for sharing 👍🏻

@@RichardPhilatelist do you think the data matrix can you copied ex if we find the qr code from 1 stamp and then make more barcodes is that possible?
