I'm doing my first show on Whatnot this weekend. I've only done Ebay. I have found the courage to put myself out there... wish me luck. I'm scared to death! Lol

I have been on whatnot for a few months just hanging out and getting to know everyone. I am about to start selling on there in the next few weeks. I love the community on Whatnot.

I do both whatnot and ebay. If you have more cost of goods then whatnot is fun and great way to move inventory but building an audience on what not I find is challenging

Oh wow, I just saw the breakdown, $250 per hour is amazing! Thanks for sharing it. I was afraid most people would barely break even.

They both have their place. I think it depends on how much inventory you have and if you have a supplier.

I sell on ebay mainly. I signed up and did one show on whatnot. I'm not super social so it was pretty draining to do a live show and I felt camera shy. I like ebay more overall because I don't mind waiting the few months to make a lot more money per item since my store is pretty niche'd down. I have been working on talking to a camera and have gotten a lot more comfortable with it. I have a huge collection of video games and consoles (not my ebay niche) i'd like to sell soon and i'm not sure if i want to do ebay or whatnot with them.

I've been doing eBay.. Whatnot does seem a little intimidating to start. I think eventually when I have a little more space and room to set aside bundles for auctions I am interested to try it. I appreciate you sharing your journey!

You have a hookup, the majority of us do not. Clearly whatnot is better for you. Not for the average.

I agree! As a part time reseller, I wouldn’t be able to source enough items and at a low cost to be able to be competitive in whatnot starting at a low price range.

Totally disagree. I started at zero and have over 1,300 followers, wonderful reviews and netted over $5000 selling Lego in the last six months. I sell for an hour or so maybe once a week. it’s an amazing community. I love it. LegoAndLifeAdvice

@LegoAndLifeAdvice He has a clothing hookup that allows him to sell on whatnot instead of listing them all on ebay. Most don't have a hookup. Meaning he could do away with whatnot and get premium on ebay if he chose to.

I’m worried about the profit margin. I want to try it but if I buy something for 7.00 and sell it for 3.00 I’m losing money.

I have been approved to sell on WhatNot, but 2 things hold me back - 1. Confidence 2. I don't feel I have enough inventory, or can source enough inventory in my area, to keep it going. It's a work in progress - sort of!

If you have the space to store your items for long periods of time, ebay is the no-brainer. If you have the energy and deals to get 100s of items for next to nothing, what not makes since. Ebay = more bang for your buck... What Not = less bang, but MUCH quicker profits.... however in a hotter take What Not has really wattered down the clothing market a lot.... I've watched different shows for a few weeks and see decent items NWT practically lower than ross prices .... plus I can't imagine what not being great for USPS.... ao much more volume going out at a faster pace.... at the end of the day it's what makes you the most profit 😀😄

What not is risky because its quite a bit easier than having to photo measure list with titles and specifics. I would never suggest scaling whatnot unless your scaling eBay or other businesses as well bcuz its likely a race to the bottom. Could see prices of even premium items plummeting in a few years but it is still worth being a part of a bigger business in my opinion.

The only way to make good money Liveselling is to pay up for inventory and do super high volume, and have a huge following. None of which your average reseller is able to do. Selling Non-sized items and ideally replenishables is the best metric for success. Is your target buyer on whatnot A: resellers who can't pay full price for the item but give you more business or is it B: the end user who has the free time and money to pay up for the items but not repeat buy? Live selling will always only amount to a small percent of the market cap, people just don't have the time. It doesn't matter where you sell, the only thing in reselling that matters is the rate at which you can source quality inventory at a cheap price. That then determines the best platform and selling strategy. I've also heard the summer slowdown on what not is pretty bad compared to ebay. If this trend takes off the cost of wholesale goods will go up as well. Hopefully your wholesale providers don't see this video and decide to start selling on whatnot too. $5.61 profit per item isn't bad but exhausting to know that if you're not streaming your not making money. Live selling is just an anomaly.

From what i have noticed, WhatNot tends to attract the get rich quick crowd as sellers. Also, 2 billion in sales doesn’t mean they are swimming in profits. New tech start ups tend to be very unprofitable and based on the new user compensation they are issuing they are likely very unprofitable. It is all great making slim profit margins on high volume until the connects dry up and the debts pile up. Get rich quick dream is not it
