Who was your favorite Founding Father (before you learned about Gouverneur Morris) and why?
even tho he wasn’t the best tactician George Washington was a goated leader
Teddy Woosevelt 😋
Prof hoff's friend momma bear told a story in his stream about her grandpa having a heart attack at a baseball game and didn't want medical attention because he wanted to watch the game until it ended
Crazy story right?
George Washington of Course!
Morris wouldn't recognize Thomas Paine's american citizenship, so Paine was almost killed by the French Revolution. And one of the reasons Paine was imprisoned is because he was against killing of the king, he wasn't a fan of the terror as the animation depicted him
For anyone who wants some shade on Morris and Hamilton: see Paine's review of Morris's eulogy on Hamilton's funeral
They were all rich thieves! Stealing indigenous land. They even stole the savage government style of the Haudenosaunee. Liars and thieves all of them!!
why not? they both were born in the uk
"Morris wouldn't recognize Thomas Paine's american citizenship," George Washington and the rest of the government in the US told him to refuse citizenship partly because he was a citizen of France. Morris was merely the messenger i.e. ambassador to France and did not want to anger the current government of France. Morris was a stickler as far as the went and tried to please all sides.
G. Morris does not deserve most of the rumors spread about him. Recent research has shown that those were indeed rumors due to people being jealous of Morris and petty squabbles of the time. There are two newish books about him out I'd check them out to see if you agree with their findings. One by Adams and one[two really] by Miller.
There’s a whole lot of nuance that made sense then but doesn’t now. And the French Revolution was a hornet’s nest of bad sides.
8:32 "Sir, I must inform you that I have a husband!"
"Madam, I must inform you that I have a math test!"
"What?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, I just thought we were naming things that we're about to cheat on."
I can't in good conscience approve, but that was smooth as f***ing butter, Morris you dog.
He's smooth like ex-lax... through a cow.
Morris got w rizz
my favorite Morris story is, someone or maybe himself, dared to slap George Washington on the back like he was one of the boys with a loud, "How are you this morning General?" and the look George Washington gave Morris made him regret every decision he had made in life up to that point.
And the only reason he did it was because Alexander Hamilton dared him to.
It was in the video. How are you still not sure how it happened and whose idea it was?
Probably Hamilton
@@isabellaangeline2175 Maybe they didnt get that far yet?
Morris and Washington made up after Morris grew the balls to invite GW to some fly fishing.
My favorite FF is Thomas Paine, especially since his crucial role is so often forgotten. He convinced the colonists to go to war against the more powerful military on the planet, and then when we were taking an ass whupping, he convinced them to keep going. Given how important persuasion and propaganda is these days, it's kinda strange that Paine isn't more celebrated.
He was also a ardent opponent of slavery.
In many ways he’s more famous than any of the other “founding fathers” - especially outside the US: Thomas Paine stars in the curriculum of every undergraduate Political Science course on the planet.
His opinions also aged the best out of any founding father
Better than the rest. Though Morris tried to be on his level.
he is not more celebrated because most of the Founding Fathers are not celebrated anymore.
Btw the way I am am a descendant of governor Morris my name is Raymond Wes Morris Jones. Our families split off 17 Generations ago from Sir John Morris de morrisco and Anne Dillion through their son, James Morris. I know I probably spilled some of the names wrong. Finally, he is getting the recognition he deserves. I love this video from you guys. Hope you make more like this one because you guys are awesome.
Awesome to hear his line is still going strong, and it's just me here making the videos but I'm not stopping any time soon.
Thats really cool
"BTW the way" means "By the way the way." Also you spelled "spelled" wrong.
@@DarkElfDiva 🤓
Touting your relationship with him but unable or unwilling to correctly spell his name.
Thanks for letting me be a part of another video! I’m so happy this channel is growing and starting to get the credit it deserves!
Always a pleasure, sir.
@@DrawnofHistory Ah yes, imagine praising new yorks street layout today lmao
Good luck recognizing where you are without a map. Otherwise great sh*t my dude
I don’t know how your not more popular… This is a masterpiece
Thank you. I'm trying.
wow, that was my old profile picture
@@micahistory Oh wow! Thats so cool
@@DrawnofHistory Keep trying! Your videos are amazing!
Have you considered making a discord server?

When they tarred and feathered someone they used pine tar, if they had used petroleum tar like they put it roads it would just be murder with extra steps.
I'll admit you got me there. Good correction.
I was like. "I know all of em. I've heard of whoever it's gonna be." and as you were listing folk at the very start I was like "hm. what if I'm aware of their existence but don't know them well" this turned out to be the case. knew the dude existed, but didn't know much of what he did. just that he had a "funny first name for a founding father"
At first, I just new the myth of how he lost his leg. Then I started researching and found out how awesome he was. He literally wanted to put into the Constitution that the only reason we aren't outlawing the importation of enslaved people now is because Georgia and the Carolinas are been jerks about it.
I just laughed so hard each and every time you bring the nonexisting sponsors - Damn I'll just sponsor you. If they can't see you deserve it, I do.
8:30
You deserve all the sponsorships just for this joke alone. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm keep making it until they start doing it.
I know how I’m spending my weekend... binging this mans entire channel
Without La Fayette and Franklin persuading the French we'd not know any of the others names
I love the unique animation style you have. It makes your video stand out more than the other history channels.
Thanks. No offense to other channels but I wouldn't be interested in narrating with over still images and maybe 3 variations on an avatar. Then again, that's probably the reason it takes me forever to finish a video.
EXCELLENT use of Prince's scream from 'Gett Off'! Not only do you make this history nerd happy with your videos, but your obscure references and crass humor is what I have been in search and in need of for a long time.
I love Button Gwinnett. A signer. Just his name ! I had a 10th grade American History teacher, who name by name told us the biographies of each, and subsequently, every person who attended The Continental Congress in York and the 2nd in Philadelphia..History came alive ! Thank you Mr. Roth ! We could smell the body odor in the hot closed room of history, you described, tired from the long, slow ratification process and frozen in the woods of Valley Forge.
I love Button. So great!! Also, he looks tough considering his name is Button.
That Prince scream broke me 😂😂
The bit about Boston streets made me spit a mouthful of M&Ms all over my laptop. 🤣🤣🤣
Man you can't just be dropping the "premiers in" on me right before I go to bed I'm just gonna have to stay up for 9 more hours to watch it
3:48 I don't want to imagine an 18th century rainfurrest
I'm glad I am not the only one who saw that. Fucking S tier meme.
This is one of the more colorful characters of the time! :)
Originally, I had just heard the myth about how he lost his leg. Imagine my surprise when he turned out to be utterly awesome. I knew I had to make a video on him.
Someone finally made a video about my second-favorite Founding Father!!!
(Thomas Paine 4 Ever)
I love Paine's writing but he personally comes off to me like the guy hoping on trends and running scams. He would've been so into 2020 crypto pushing
@@DrawnofHistorylegit funny if he were a 21st century man.
I knew who it was gonna be from the thumbnail! In my 5th grade history class we had to dress up as different founding fathers and I was given Morris. Such a fun assignment, and I was shocked that he wasn’t one of the more prominent ones
Glad to see a new video 👍
Me too. It took forever but I'm glad I kept it as a 1-parter.
This was INCREDIBLE! I’m hooked
Loved the little bit you have on New Amsterdam! I am currently reading a history book on the colony and Peter Stuyvesant just appeared on the scene. He is quite the character!
I found out while researching my family genealogy that my grandmother’s side was firmly rooted in 17th century New Netherland/York (a 10th great grandfather was the last Vice Director of the colony and surrendered Fort Orange/Albany to the Brits), but I was surprised to find not many books on the topic. There are some videos here on YT, especially ones by the local history societies, that are excellent.
I teach in Manhattan and my students are amazed that the names of the streets, neighborhoods, etc all come from history.
@@DrawnofHistory I don’t think anyone on my tree have anything named after them in Manhattan, but there are several of them that have shown up in the book I’m reading. In addition to the vice director who was a doctor and then managed his BIL’s tobacco farm on what is now the northern end of Central Park before getting into politics, there are my 11th great grandparents Anthony Van Salee and Grietje Reyniers, who get a chapter title in the book-“The Turk and The Whore.” Oh, and another 10th great grandfather is Pietro Alberti, the first Italian immigrant to Manhattan. The earliest arrivals in Manhattan on my tree were 13th great grandfather Guillame Vigne and his family, who were on one of the first two ships to arrive in early 1624. Sara Rapelje, aka the grandmother of New York since she had over a million descendants, shows up a few times on the tree as well.
I’ve learned a LOT about NY history after getting into genealogy a few years ago! It’s really fascinating, and something I never knew before, beyond the myth of the purchase of the island.
Wow this is so interesting, I am continually disappointed by how small this channel is for how good the content is
this is exactly what I was looking for. I was googling least known founding fathers. Well done! Very educating and simultaneously hilarious!
Used to be Hamilton was the unknown one. I don't think that tracks anymore.
Robert Treat Paine is always going to be my favorite. Not became of anything he did, but because he lived in the same city I'm from.
Morris was among the people I frequently quote when I speak about the writing of Article V of the Constitution. That's my area of expertise.
Cool! What are you writing?
@@tylerreynolds9013 I'm not writing anything. I'm trying to amend the Constitution. I'm National Counsel for Wolf-PAC. Trying to end the corrupting influence of money in politics. Come join us.
@@Sam_on_UA-cam oh, sorry I misread that. This wolf pac stuff looks great, best of luck to you

Glad to see another video from you. Excellent as always. I hope you and your family are doing well.
Hey thanks. Me and my little guy are doing swell.
Love the content! I think a series on Teddy Roosevelt would be amazing.
Thanks so much. I'd love a TR video. I think we how much my scripts balloon up, that might be the first Drawn of History movie!
A T.R. movie would be great!
DAMN! A thousand dollars!
You know hearing that Thomas Pain was a bad Tax Collector in england actually make me like him a bit more. He was and still my favorite founding father but your guy is very good too.
Ohhhhhhhh no, HELL NO.
I clicked this thinking "is it Thomas Paine or am I rioting"
Not only is it not Thomas Paine, it's the bastard who revoked Thomas Paine's citizenship for no good reason and allowed him to die forgotten and in poverty?
No. I can firmly say he will not be my new favorite.
Writing wise, he's up there. Personality wise, ah boo.
This is really great! keep it up, great style and way more clever humor than oversimplified imo.
It’s a tragedy you don’t have more followers keep up the good work your videos are fantastic and hilarious!
Everything I’ve come to expect from this channel - twisted humor inspired by historical figures and events.
Damn, Thomas Paine really getting slept on
TGI Octidi is one of the best esoteric gags I've seen in a long time.
I just found your channel, instantly subscribed. Truly a perfect blend of humor and information.
as someone from Boston, that is the historically accurate of how the road layout was made.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. Keep it up!
Thanks!
Wow. Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Bravo! Somehow you simultaneously made this video educational, entertaining, and funny. Well done my friend!
Hi buddy! Glad you liked it.
Just subbed. I don't know where this channel has been hiding but I needed this! I'll share the video with my fellow history nerds 🤓 haha. Keep grinding, you all deserve more subscribers!
Mate I'll be watching your channel grow so much :)
You're already this good just imagine the possibilities for the future once you start getting bigger
My favorite founding father is Madison. The coolest founding father was Franklin. Most underrated? Not sure. Mason? Rutledge? Morris? Lee? Probably not Lee. Though he is good comic relief in the play 1776.
yes! new content!
Every time I see a banana, in my head I say "what the hell is that?" Sometimes audibly too lol Cracks me up every time :)
Haha. Though bananas are objectively the worst fruit. Smell bad, feel bad, and turn brown when you look at them the wrong way.
I've been binging your channel and know I'll enjoy every re-watch until your next episode is available. Although you certainly deserve the sponsorships and I hope you get them soon, I'll miss those jokes! Also, I absolutely love all the background animation jokes like the Jesus poster holding a Dino instead of a lamb in another video and the TGI Vendredis sign in this one. Great sense of humor and interesting historical information. I truly wish you success!
This is incredible! So funny and so well done 👍🏻 I wish you all the best in your future videos.
This is a great video, grateful to find this history Channel 🥰
Grateful that the algorithm is showing some love
Such an amazing channel, you deserve more recognition
This is incredible
I have maaaany pictures from passages of books about this guy’s interactions with various founders - absolute legend
Thomas Jefferson had his imperfections, but he accomplished so much for our country~
Including creating the Hemmings. Truly the father of his country.
It's sad to think I forgot about this amazing man.
recently found your channel and i absolutely love it ! keep up the amazing work ! your big break is coming !
Absolutely hilarious and incredibly accurate, Fantastic.
This is the best video yet!
Nice. Now to make an even better one (hopefully shorter).
I fucking died at the scene that shows how the Boston streets were arranged.
As A New Yorker, I couldn't resist.
You deserve every sub and view, keep it up!
Excellent stream of history
I really enjoyed the video. Subscribed.
Always amazing animated videos
So I was born, raised, and have lived a good chunk of my life about an hour away from Boston. I’ve been to that city a ton, and I would say I get lost at least 80-85% of the time. Personally, I’d say your rendition of how Boston was set up is damn accurate
Love the subtle reference to the French _Calendrier Républicain_ (Republican Calendar) in the visual gag where TGI Friday becomes “TGI Octidi” in post-revolutionary France.
yess new drawn of history upload
You make your history so much fun ☺️ keep it up 😊
YESSSS!!! I've been telling kids Gouverneur was my favorite founding father for years!!!
And to think that before I started researching this, the only thing I knew was the false story of how he lost his leg
Here before this channel blows up even more.
I love that I can learn and laugh at the same time!
Omg how did I not find this channel sooner!!??
this entire thing was so funny. I want more! "the street layout of boston!" was so good
Holy smokes what??? How didn't I know about this before?

I like this guy. Just something about him :)
I know right? He's amazing! He sounds a lot like you.... any relation? Lol
I only knew of this guy before the video because I read abt how he died somewhere talking abt how wild it was. Using a whalebone as a catheter.
It wouldn't be my first instinct in that situation
