  • How to Spey Cast and Skagit Casting Techniques with Jacob Zirkle. 2019 Alaska Spey Clave - Cooper Landing, Alaska | Skagit and Trout Spey Instructions from Jake Zirkle. www.cooperlandingfishingguide...
Watch as Jacob Zirkle presents some of his theories about spey casting, skagit casting, spey fishing and trout spey at the 2019 Alaska Spey Clave.
At Cooper Landing Fishing Guide, LLC, we are super passionate about spey fishing for a variety of species, but we especially enjoy Trout Spey Fishing both with clients and when we are fun fishing.
Every year we are proud to share the wonderful technique of spey fishing for trout and salmon by teaching our guests the two-handed style. We are lucky enough to be a part of a lot of firsts as people discover spey and skagit casting and often times, catch their first fish on a spey rod.
Cooper Landing Fishing Guide, LLC is located in Cooper Landing Alaska and we are certified Kenai River Fishing Guides on the Kenai and Kasilof Rivers fishing for both trout and salmon. We spey fish for trout and salmon and can't get enough of it!

I wanted first to say thank you for your videos, not only your flies but these on casting techniques as well, I have tied and used some of your fly patterns with really good results using a regular fly rod, and didn't have to relearn how to cast, but I am interested in learning new ways to fish, even at 62 years old and set in my ways!! So saying that, what length and weight of spey rod would you suggest for a beginner, I normally use anything between a 2 up to a 6 weight rod, depending on weather conditions, wind ect... I use a medium fast to fast action rod, so I would assume a spey rod action would act similar to a regular fly rod, just longer so more power for getting some distance in a cast? Also, it looks like lines are different and set up is as well on your line, any recommendations on line tapers, floating vs sink or sink tip? Thanks for your time, and your videos, they are very informative.

Somebody had a few Red Bulls... Not helpful at all. I can make the line/rod whip around and create some cool sounds. I learned nothing from this video.

I have come to notice on social media that trolls are easy to spot because they don't display real name or a real picture of themselves, they hide behind anonymity when they talk shit. I find it cowardly.

Thank for the advice I’ll talk slower as I don’t drink coffee or Red Bull. This was a demo day on the river with many people watching on the water. Wasn’t meant for a video clinic.

If you didn’t learn something from this you don’t fish!

If you got nothing from this you must be an elite master Spey caster. I never attended a Spey clave event, but I can guess that most of the audience is totally inexperienced or novice Spey casters. I thought this was an excellent presentation because it addresses many points glossed over or skipped in other videos. If you can’t keep up, use the pause and rewind buttons.
