The "tap below" pad is for refilling an actual Ventra card (the plastic cards you use for more than one ride). You can, however, tap either your phone or a credit card on the turnstile. That would avoid the extra 50 cent fee for the single ride card.
😊 let Richard know the next time he can used the wider turnstiles to the left with your luggage. Also you can used the handicap gate. Keeps you from lifting the luggage over the turnstile.
Great video. We rented a car in midway and stayed outside of downtown. Since we didn't want to drive downtown we just got a Ventra Card and got a 3 day pass. So we could ride the L or the busses with the card. It cost $5 for the card plus what you buy but is applied to the card once you registrar it with the app. The plastic card is valid for many years so you can refill it without using the machines if you decided to come back. There are elevators as you get off the train and going into the first area into the walkway to the airport. They just hide them, you really have to look for them. The CTA actually has videos of all the trains and how long it takes from start to finish. We rode the orange line between 4 and 5 pm and it got crowded with people getting off work. Also if someone decides to do the same there is a two parking areas car park and I forgot the name of the other by the midway L station. $7 and $10 all day parking.
As a Chicagoan, I appreciate this video. I always wondered if a shuttle had to be taken from the Midway stop to the airport. It's connected, just like Ohare. I've only flown out of Midway once in my 39 years of life 🤦♀️🤣
Oh heeey 👋🏾 local Chicagoan! It’s always, nice to hear from those who live in the cities we visit. So happy we could finally help solve the shuttle mystery for you after all these years 🤣😉💕.
Thank you for your video of Chicago. I visited Chicago last month and your video was super helpful. I also tried the vanilla bean donut from do-rite donuts and boy, was it delicious! Thanks for sharing!
Oh it was truly our pleasure! Thank you for watching us. So happy you found the video helpful 🥰. Oh do have fun in July and eat some good food for us while you’re there.🤗
I just joined the family, I like both of your personalities. It works out well that your wife is vegan. I’ve enjoyed your content and hope there is a lot more to come.
Yay welcome to the family! 🤗💖🏡💕💕 Thank you so much for joining and we are so happy you are enjoying the videos. Ronya was a vegetarian for awhile but she started eating fish and poultry again. She stated she may go back to being a pescatarian or a vegetarian later again though.😉
6/17/23: Thanx for showing me the way - I will be traveling to Chicago soon. I will plan to carry my luggage up a flight of stairs as you demonstrated (keep it light). GOK how handycapped people travel - I didn't see any elevators in your video. Retired in Sacto.
Thanks much for presenting this video. I will let you know that O'Hare Airport CTA Blue Line stop will be a subway upon arriving to O'Hare so you won't have to be outside in the weather if you do plan on visiting that airport in the future. Clark/Lake is the station stop where passengers can make a free transfer from the Orange Line from Midway to the Blue Line to O'Hare and vice-versa. Other free transfers between CTA trains are available too.
Our pleasure and thank YOU for watching. Honestly, that would be a call you would have to make. What may feel safe to us may not feel safe to someone else and vice versa. We also didn’t travel at night or at least not when it was pitch black outside 🤷🏾♀️
I forgot to mention this too. There is a Ventra app in which users can create an account purchase tickets and passes before arriving to Chicago whether they live there or plan to visit it.
Great Video. I live in Chicago (Gold Coast). We have similar values: finding good free stuff. I also live in Southern California and Mexico. Let me know if you are going back to Chicago or Mexico or Southern California. I would like to meet up with you and compare travel notes.
We totally get that. We had a morning flight for our arrival from Orlando to Chicago. We had an early evening departure flight going back home around 6:00ish pm. You can always get to the airport earlier and sit at the gate for extra security too if you have a later flight.😉
The Orange Line is one of the safer trains because it's connected to the airport. I live in the Southwest suburbs, and I went to college in the loop. I would drive to Midway and take the Orange Line into the city because part of my tuition covered a U-Pass, which is unlimited CTA use for students. I had many night classes, and I worked downtown, so I would be in the city very late. I never really felt unsafe on the Orange Line. Some lines are a little shadier, though. The Blue Line connects to O'Hare, so that one tends to be pretty safe as well. However, I haven't ridden the CTA in years, and I hear that due to funding post-pandemic things have gotten worse. You can see in this video though, that the Orange Line doesn't look too bad.
Should have checked lyft. They are usually quite a bit cheaper. It's a real hassle with luggage taking the train. I'd eat one less meal out to avoid it if saving money was the goal.
5:46 answer..you can't do that. Once you tap your card, even if dyou have tons of money on it, you can't tap it again at the same terminal for 15 minutes. Fun Fact.
They have them. By all means please take a taxi 🚕 or Uber or Lyft. We just found this budget friendly alternative to using either of those services. A taxi wasn’t cheaper than this route.
Hey there 👋🏾, Yes- The train makes several stops but it will show you when you are at the destination that you would like to be at. We did make sure to show you the map that is inside the train to let you know the stops it makes and the stop we got off at for the airport. Thanks for watching and enjoy your trip 🤗
You have to be sure NOT to get on the Orange Express. It takes you directly to Midway but it doesn't stop it just turns around and comes right back to the loop.
This was soooo helpful. I'm in Chicago now and followed your steps to a T, thank you!
Yay 😃! We are so happy we could help. Thanks for watching and happy and safe travels ✈️

turnstiles have card scanners on them? so need to buy anything at a machine? that’s very helpful-thanks!
Yes....if you use your debit card, the ride is $5....but $2.50 is returned in a few days. Try to avoid using your debit card if you can.
Excellent video-informative, and your narration is clear and thorough.
Yay 😃!!! So happy we could help and that you enjoyed the video. Happy and safe travels ✈️

as someone interested in visiting Chicago and using the CTA this was a great video...Thanks!
We are happy to help. Thanks for watching and we hope you have a safe trip 🤗
I also use the street numbers that Chicago provides as a guide to make sure that I'm heading in the correct direction.
Ohhh excellent tip! 😃
@@InspiredbyRR I used to live in Chicago attending classes at UIC.
Your skin and your hair ❤ beautiful
🥹 Awhh thank you, you are too kind! 🥰💕💕
Thank you for the informative video. Is it safe to travel the orange line at night?

Oh how neat to be able to call so many places home! That’s amazing 🤩
The greatest thing about it is meeting good people who are traveling and neighbors.
Thanks but those hallways are very long from the CTA to MIdway
We guess it could seem that way for some and we totally get that. You’re welcome and thanks so much for watching. 🤗
What time off day did you guys move up & down? Worried about moving about at night & alone.
We totally get that. We had a morning flight for our arrival from Orlando to Chicago. We had an early evening departure flight going back home around 6:00ish pm. You can always get to the airport earlier and sit at the gate for extra security too if you have a later flight.😉

We checked Lyft and Uber the day we made the video. The train was the cheapest option that day . Thanks for watching 😉.
