How-to: Lego Racers Basil the Batlord

- I hope you like the intro animation in modern graphics. I originally wanted to make a simple tutorial video, but that wasn't enough for me. So i redid the animations from 1999 in 2023 style. I also included a parts list at the bottom of the video, so you can build your own Basil the Batlord car.
A big thank you to the UA-camr @ZANTHERA for his build video's. He has a series of how to build all the Lego Racers intro cinematic cars. I want to focus my series on how to build the in-game models, but a lot of inspiration comes from his video's. So check them out!

I would love that! I always had this hope that this series will inspire some move from Lego. Next year it'll be it's 25 year anniversary. Would be good timing. 😃

It's still crazy to me how different Lego Racers 2 was. Both had their own unique feeling.

I have his car in Lego 2k drive, apparently the head piece on the front of the car was recently added a couple months ago which finally made it possible to have an exact replica

If I am not mistaken I believe Basil was the first Castle minifig to straight up have an angry/frowning face.

@@StudframeAnimations The old Lego Racers website actually said his car is built to resemble his dragon Draco. (the black dragon that came in a few Fright Knights sets and probably the same dragon seen in Knightmare-Athon).

@@StudframeAnimations Although not confirmed considering Basil knows how to ride a dragon makes me think he used to be a Dragon Master knight before Willa got her hands on him. Its also now official Willa and Majisto are cousins which really just adds to my theory. Like Willa saw an opportunity to spite her cousin by turning one of his own troops to her side.
Since Basil is officially a vampire now in 2024 I can finally make this joke and have him say this:
"But enough talk.....Have at you!"
I dressed as him for Halloween once.

The new helmet for him I like to pretend thats his helmet for racing considering it has a more sleek and aerodynamic design.
That's a fun idea! As I kid I've always wondered where he left his cape while racing. 🤔

I played this game a ton, and still do to this day. I am not a speedrunner or anything like that, but something I do enjoy is making the captains win a really low place. I always wanted to race against my custom built cars, but those were just dreams. Basil the Batlord and King Kahuka were my favorite main racers. The shading or model was slightly different in the demo captain car than in the release car given to you. Same goes for Basil and for Rocket Racer because they are a fixed model compared to individual pieces.
Could you do a video on the smaller racers, maybe someone like Robin Hood and Black Knight? These cars would be cool as well too, to build.

First thing I did when I got the CMF of Basil (I just bought him straight online no bothering with the blind boxes and QR codes cuz screw that) I tried to swapping the classic head on the modern torso and with the modern helmet only for me to discover the modern helmet fits far too tight on the old head (the stud on the head is slightly different) as the head actually got stuck inside the helmet when I tried taking the helmet off😭 I had to pull the head out with tweezers.

@@StudframeAnimations Yeah the stud's on minifig heads have changed over years. This video does a slightly better job on showing and explaining the changes.

Basically I think the shape of the stud on Classic Basil's head doesn't properly fit with the new helmet because they're both designed differently resulting in the head getting stuck

@@StudframeAnimations So there's basically 4 different versions of minifig heads. The 4th version isn't mentioned in the video because the video was made before that version was made.

Thank you! I may do those as well, but they are harder to build. They sometimes use pieces that don’t exist irl. But some of them are possible. 😁

@@StudframeAnimations plus the mix of bright colours and the grey stone blocks really shows off the theme of the character perfectly also he was the most fun base and pieces to build with on the game (mostly because of the colour but i like the base plate)
I love what you have done with it, but the intro is too light, and haveng him lighted from the front removes the mystique.I aplaude the effort though!

I’m not sure about the category. But the piece has number 4746 and is called “Tail 4x2x2, aircraft rocket engine”. Hope you can find it. 😁
