My father had the NSU 200cc special edition, with the special petrol cup, commemorating the years of winning off track racing. Still have a photo with me sitting on this bike in the early sixties. Fond memories as a child on this super beautiful bike. At some time he had added a sidecar to take the family on holidays. What a pleasurable times indeed. Father kept the bike in immaculate condition until the early 70s, but unfortunately when I reached the age to ride the bike, he sold it to a relative. That was a very sad day. Still carry this photo in my wallet up to this date, at the age of 66. That says something about this most beautifully crafted bike.
So much work has been invested in this bike that it seems that Soul has been invested in it.
Mir hingegen gefällt gerade die Optik. Wenn man so will, eine frühe Interpretation der jetzt so populären Bobber: Einzelsitz und Schutzblech "ohne was drauf".
Basically still the perfect motorcycle. Beautiful, well built, all the power you need for normal traffic but still enough power to get the heart going. The rest is decadence.
Nice bike. Just a few very small hints from a Max driver. Unfortunately the rubber intake tube is not original and the steel tube for the wiring out of the engine is missing somehow. There where never chrome exhaust tubes on the Max. It were simple steel tubes with a cover screwed on. Also the muffler single piece and not original. You could improve the white lining, since it is missing in some spots and the single line on the fork never existed. there where long diamond shapes over the fork or three parallel lines with different length (center longer than the outers). And you should reattach the decompression cable since not using the decompression lever wears out the starter shaft and bushing pretty quickly.
First of all. Thanks. Now to complete your list of "things that are not factory original". The lining on the batterie and toolbox is missing, just like the metal tank stripe or the air pump. The rear mirrow is not original, as well as the liceneplate holder or the fuelcap. On top of that, the side of the tank should be chrome and not just silver. As I mention that, the color it selfe is also not original but actually RAL 6021. And there were defenetly never (aluminium grey) powdercoated parts like my kicksand, engingemount etc. - only paint back then. Also not availabel back then werde transparent silicone fuellines. The handgrips are barrowed from the smaller superfox (thats why they are each 5mm to short in length) Also i changend several bolts and nuts to either cap nuts or lenshead screws made of stainless steel. Exactly like the new spokes of the weels. Cumming back to your mentions - the exhaust was already done back in the 80's by the previous owner. The rubber intake tube is just impossible to find or way to expensive (I only found it once, bid 40€ on it and didn't get it), thats why i bent an left over ikea drainpipe in shape. The decompressionlever just broke of this summer. To justify all that: I did everything my selfe, and as I can't chromeplate - I just didn't. Same goes with the pinstriping. I tried it once on the fox, and the result was ... well not good, so I had to use pinstripe tape. But that doesen't bend that well - so the covers are not (yet) done and the front does not have this nice shaped stripe. But for now I'm fine with it, as working on an oldtimer never ends and and there are constant changes and new parts orderd.
@@motorcycleportraits6536 respect for you since you have done it all yourself. I might have a white rubber intake tube for the Spezialmax airfilter, just have to look and to check it’s condition since it is 20 years old. I have two Supermaxen, one relatively original and one in a similar shape like yours but with aftermarket shocks which are not very good.
yeah the helmet is rubbish, the windnoises start at 70 km/h and the plastic is as cheap as the sticker price. But i wanted something cheap that I'm not afraid of sticking my GoPro to and that also matches the style of the bikes. I have a way better Bell helmet but I don't dare to stick anything on it, as the glue itselfe can possibly damge the helmets crashstructur.
They where not cheap... but the quality of the old bikes is absolutly worth it. And in comparison with the other brands like BMW they were still affordable.

What a wonderful motorcycle, I had one of these back in early 1960s, great memories! thank you.
Sounds beautiful. Such an individual motorbike with that styling and cam arrangement.
My mate had one of these, I had a BMW R25. We rode along semilar roads like that, a long time ago.
Runs and sounds so bloody nice.
Gerne
Thanks for the ride you remind me how great motorcycle i still have......
Awesome old thumper! And smooth. Look at the image in the mirror

The perfect motorcycle is a 350.
Had 3 Supermax in my youth, good memories, your side stand needs adjustment.
My father had a blue Max, my grandfather sold NSU mopets and bikes.
Sounds like some nice childhood memories ... may i ask where your grandfathers shop was ?
This looks a lot better than the BSA Bantam I had in the 60's.
Paid £13 for it second-hand.
Mintha magamat látnám sok-sok evvel ezelott!
Beautiful bike!
Thanks 🙂
magnific
Eccentric drive camshaft, a great idea.
Honda learned many things from this.
Yamaha started from copying DKW and learned twin from Adler.
Suzuki , of course, learned from MZ.

I remember these pressed metal designs looking very dated in the 70's.
about 4 - 4.5 liters
Salut👍 bela. Maquina
For that time one men Motorcycle is very much necessary
You need another headgear. The bike is nice.

Farben ist super
farben is bad, black color is ideal for Max..this farben is afful..
its a shame that the only nsu bike that everybody knows is the quick 50,the other bikes didnt sold too much like this i dont know why
Because they were very expensiv
They where not cheap... but the quality of the old bikes is absolutly worth it. And in comparison with the other brands like BMW they were still affordable.
