When Colm looks at the sun. The sun blinks ☀️
that's terrifying. cosmic horror Sol
The Son winks!
wrong, it winks
He should be the new chuck Norris (joke wise)
Actually, it blushes and looks away awkwardly. Colm here is the actual reason for solar eclipses
I’ve recently been diagnosed with a severe brain cancer. I’ve had to start thinking about things. This song will be added to the ones I want played At my funeral.
I pray for peace and health for you. I lost my husband in 2019 to brain cancer. It is an absolutely devastating monster. Look into as many options as you can.
I hope you have made peace with God. He is our maker and we all have to answer to Him when our time comes. There is only salvation and a way to eternal heaven through faith in Christ Jesus. God bless you my friend, I hope to meet you there when my time comes! I love listening to psalms on here, but you can also listen to the whole bible if you search audio bible. I prefer the dramatized audio bible. And don't give up hope! We all need to make peace with God weather we think our time is near or not!
I do pray you make a full recovery
I do hope you can pull through, Cancer is a bitch, and I believe you can beat it. you won't die, not today. and hopefully not for many years. please do tell us when you pull through.
I feel sorry to know you're going through this I hope you achieve the afterlife you want and that your remaining time is peaceful
Starting the song on a B1 was a power move
Hahaha it was a good bass day for me! Some days I can only get as low as D2 and I'm like "why is the universe flip flopping on me!?"
@@ColmRMcGuinness I feel that, I’m the same way 😅
@@ColmRMcGuinness was it always this low, or did it become lower through time? I can hit E2 every day, sometimes lower. I'd like to go way lower.
@@ColmRMcGuinness your vocal range is incredible
I can get down to g when I throat sing
1917 was the last movie I saw in theaters with my dad before he passed away in 2020. Looking forward to hearing this cover .
EDIT: Finally got a chance to listen! Wow. I’m teary eyed. That was seriously a moving performance!
Sorry for your loss ❤️
don't worry, your just going over Jordan. you'll see him again.
i feel your pain of losing your dad my dad passed away in Aug 5th of 2005. may your father rest in peace as my father is.
Played this for my Ukrainian friends as the bombs fell on karkiv, last online 3 weeks ago
Bright life to you, friend. Clear skies for your travels.
Every single key change I'm like "No, THIS is the part that gives me the most chills..."
Oof, felt! Colm is amazing!
The last lines are what really get me. That high note into the shaky breathing into the subterranean drop to the basement pretty much always goosebumps my shit and I am totally on board with that.
Colm McGuinness, Geoff Castellucci, Avi Kaplan, and Tim Foust, should all get together and sing the dark version of can't help falling in love or something like that.
Without a Doubt!! I AGREE!!!
I don't think it's real... Its probably done with a vocal changer... It's too deep and loses its purity in comparison to something he sings higher in chest.
@@blusoda0021 my guy.. he has so many bts videos. It's his real range.
apparently when asked how he achieves the low notes, Colm's reply was "Hangover"
@@blusoda0021 theres def some layering and vocal effects going on but i dont doubt that he can hit that low A on a good morning.
Your Irish comes out on the higher notes
and it's GLORIOUS
@@sethvandelft4337 Aye.
Nothing wrong with that!🔥♥️
As an Irishman, I whole heartedly support the Irish cadence! No matter where in the world it pops up!
Not that that's a bad thing
It's still unbelievable that all this comes out from one single person: Colm. Amazing!!! And beyond beautiful!
I get goosebumps when he goes really low. He has an Awsome voice.
One of the best films in recent years getting the Colm treatment? Sign me the hell up!
The VIP is here, ladies and gentlemen!
Cheers mate! Always good to see you here!
one of the best traditional american folk songs
Didn't expect to see RR here. Glad to see you have good tastes in music xD
I enjoyed you and Cameron's debate on the Kalam.
Now that it's coming to a close, are you considering revisiting other arguments like the Modal Cosmological Argument? I'm curious about your take on things like responses to the modal collapse argument, defenses of the PSR, etc.
Pruss and Koons who are responsible for the Grim Messenger/Pruss-Koons paradox have also worked on it so I'm sure you'll find it interesting given your research on some of their other work
@@ColmRMcGuinness I think you should listen to "Fire in the blood/snake song" from the lawless movie. I don't expect a cover i just wanted to spread the word of this cool song.
Oh right, this is a 2021 cover of a the folk song written in the mid-1800's that was featured in a 2019 WWI film titled 1917. This was all very easy to understand.
I remember those critics who said he couldn’t sing the bass and those parts. Boy they have disappeared lately!
Lad he can sing but singing deeper than your natural voice hurts like a bitch XD
@@sychoserbianljubisic4438 aye, I can testify to that, mate. In fact, most people who can sing in bass, in my experience, need the rest of the choir to sound good...and that's why I'm super jealous of Colm! I wish I could get low like him!
But you are right...shite hurts
I'm already getting chills, that's gon' be good.
My dad showed me this movie last Saturday and that scene (and all the rest of the movie) was so powerful and amazing! The song has been running through my head ever since, and I am so genuinely thrilled that you are covering it that I feel like I’m going to cry! So can’t wait!
I could cry with you pal; this really makes me think of the ones I've lost, and how much I want to hold on to the ones I have; especially to the one I love!
@NinjaSciborg it is definitely well worth your time
I found the song via my school choir forcing me to join a competition, so I got to do the version by John Jacob Niles, never watched the movie
I haven’t seen the film, so I came into this with only the expectation of another amazing Colm performance, but I did not expect the character that came with the song! We don’t know a thing about his circumstances, but we know everything we need to know from the look in his eye, the doggedness in his stride, and the confidence in his face. He’s going home. We have no cause to doubt him. “Well done” is an understatement for such a fine performance! Chills. Just chills.
Definitely go give 1917 a watch when you can
As a historian, I generally keep an eye out for films with historical plots. 1917 is definitely one of my top WWI-based films. It's simply tells the story of a young soldier's survival and the dangers he faced just to deliver a message during WWI.
When you get the chance, give it a go!
Oh man the song is so powerful in the film. You have to check it out.
Holy shit Colm, those register changes are phenomenal. And the vibrato is killer too. You keep getting better and better, thank you so much for continuing to share this with us
This... This is how Gospel should be sung. From the heart. Deeply. Proudly. Laying your emotion bare for God and the World to see.
Thank you Colm.
Yes!! I highly recommend “From This Valley” live performance by The Civil Wars. That’s real worship music, not the tinny canned stuff they play in church nowadays
My grandmother passed away a few days ago. This was the last song she heard. It was beyond an honor to play it for her. From my family thank you for your gift
3:16 that breath you took gave me chills i loved it
Something I didn't know I needed, 1917 is such a great movie
The nine muses are smiling. Once again weaving life into music. Just beautiful!!
Saw this movie in a tiny country theater with like 5 people. It was so harrowing and yet also amazing, this song encapsulates so much of what happens in the story too. It's incredible.
My younger brother took inspiration from your singing and started trying to expand his range. He showed this to me two days ago and ive come back to it over and over again since to let the emotion behind the notes and lyrics move me.
When the soldier started singing this song, I really felt I was getting a rest from a long journey
I've loved this song since I was a kid, thank you so much for covering this song, I legit had to hold back a scream of excitement at work when I saw this
As always, I am blown away by your vocal range. Today, your high notes are actually hurting my ears. Wonderful song.
Can you sing something in Gaelic, please? You have such an amazing vocal range.
Can do! Cheers mate!
This song brought me to tears. I swear I could feel the holy spirit while you sang
The power of your voice, never seizes to amaze me... Such power... Sends chills up and down my spine...
I know you probably won't read this because the video is a year old, but on the off chance you do:
I find the emotion you put into this astonishing. I hear desperation, fear and even a bit of anger, as well as hopless acceptance. Instead of a soothing deathbed song, it's like an glimpse into a wounded young soldier's last moments as he's trying to prepare for impending death. Which I can only assume is intentional. It's so intense I can't even listen to it too much. Chapeau.
I found your channel recently, great work. Like many others I will be playing your songs on my dnd campaigns, keep it up!
So beautiful. One of the few songs I have heard that brought tears to my eyes
How many souls do you think a voice as deep and silky as his costs
Depends on who you get it from
@@nickpelloni1014 i suppose thats true probably a lot though
It's all the freckles.
Your beloved little sister and your first lover's soul will do nicely.
@@StarboyXL9 I don't have a little sister or a first lover, help?
Jaw dropped, goosebumps, tears shed. Was that good.
Your vocal range never fails to impress me. The build from low to high added this growing sense of hope to the song, then dropping back low tied it neatly with where you began.
The transition from deep croon to higher singing voice sent chills down my spine. Then the higher end section I give up chills won't stop every time I listen to colm.
Colm could read the end credits of lord of the rings or a phone book and his voice would still give me chills.
I swear every song this man touches turns to gold.
I love this song so much❣️ Can't wait to hear your version 😍 I know I'm going to cry 😢
I've got goosebumps, so beautiful❣️ Your range just blows my mind 🤪
Wow, those low notes at the beginning litteraly gave me chills ! This song is one of my favorite songs ever and your rendition was gorgeous ♥
Three videos in one week? You are spoiling us, Colm!
This was a beautiful rendition - easily one of my favorites of this song.
Colm's voice alone could push the enemies 10 trenches back! Awesome cover of an amazing movie!! 12/10*
that backwards glance!!! hahaha. so funny.
“Who shot the violinist?!” 😂
@@ColmRMcGuinness Thank you for this gift of a song.
I truly love not only listening to these videos but watching them. You're one of the few people i've seen who I can not only see the emotion in your face as you sing, but in your eyes as well. This may be one of my favorite videos/songs from you yet! Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to experience something this magical Colm.
Goosebumps all over and over and this with 30 degrees outside, you must be a magician! 😉 It's amazing again, like all the other songs you sing. I love the way you sing and the bright color of your voice , please never change your style. You're my favorite singer! Make a deep bow in face of such a great singer 🤩
This might be my favourite song you've done. Sleeping In The Cold Below is close, but this is so good. The deep voice at the start, and the younger sounding higher voice, like flashing back to a past self while your present self (the deeper voice) accepts their fate, hoping they'll end up home, with their father and mother. The little raspy breath at the end, slightly afraid, but steeling themself. Beautiful.
The film _1917_ brought me here. :3. Plus, it's just a _REALLY_ good song. You _killed_ it with this one, Colm!! :3!!
At first I thought you were going way too fast, then I realized that I had youtube at 1.5 speed.
I love it.
Can I request "Oh Death" and/or "Down to the River" from Oh Brother Where Art Thou?
I second Oh Death
Thirding O Death.
Fourth on O Death.
I really love this song since forever, since finding the 16 horsepower version ages ago, and you did an amazing job with it. I like how you turned it slow and folk-y, it really gave it a very different feel, rather than just a cover. I mean, I usually say everything is better with banjo, but I think you proved me wrong!
It seems you higher voice range had further improved! Or at least you'd got to show it more here.
Spectacular cover, keep up the good work, Colm!
Thanks a lot, mate. I lose my entire top range for years at a time, when I'm out of practice. This is the first time I've started learning vibrato, so I really appreciate the compliment!
My goodness...! 😱
I’ve loved this old hymn for many years...and was rather sad in some strange way when 1917 used it, since now it would become popular...
But I still love it, and Colm, absolutely fantastic job. ✨ I love the raw human-ness of your version!
vibraaaatooooo. [insert heart eyes emoji here]
You probably already noticed, but you’re Pirates of the Caribbean hoist the colors video it’s being used as a sound on Tictok🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Great job!
Beautifully done, you brought me to tears brother.. 😢❤
Imagine if Colm did some stuff from Poor man’s poison. I don’t know why but I think it would fit perfectly.
Your belting sounds like uilleann pipes! It’s fantastic!!!
You know what would be a really cool cover for you to do? Loch Lomond. It's a great songs and your vocals would make it even better
I'm obsessed with this recording.
The growling, the passion, and of course, the side-eye before the second verse.
My Father passed away just before Thanksgiving last year (2021). I played this on my phone at the graveside during his funeral. I knew I loved Colm's version of the song but I never realized just How Much it spoke to me. Especially with the intensity of his voice. Thank you Colm for recording this!
I've always loved this modal, minor-keyed, eerie song. . . and now I love it more.
Wayfaring Stranger was released in 1944, was covered by Poor Man’s Poison in 2018, and included in the movie “1917” in 2020
I discovered you 2 weeks ago.. And now I can't pass a single day without listenning you ! You're voice is amazing.. I'm truly in love with it !
Mr. McGuiness, you sir, are an absolute artist. I thoroughly enjoy your music and the way you perform it. Thank you!
I’ve watched this movie a few times now and can’t help but get teary-eyed because of the pure emotion of the song. To say that this cover did that entire movie justice is a damn understatement
So many strong voices in one man. You are awseome. need more of These Tracks on Spotify 😁
Seriously the best rendition of this I've heard. Amazing as always Sir. God Bless!!!
If I don't belt this at least once a day, my day is not done
Into the small hours once more... At least it will be an awesome (if early) start to my Monday 😊
I could listen to this forever! Great job! Another masterpiece
It's my favourite audition song...such a nice surprise to hear it from you! Beautiful emotion here. Bravo again
I don’t know the hell this doesn’t have 30 million views?!? It’s the best cover of this song I ever heard!
That transition from high to low at the very end was amazing! Truly remarkable talent
I'm just 15 and I never heard such a beautiful and high/ low singing it just lightens my life
I just need to say that the voice of yours is so addicting and energy you always create withing the cover you made is so powerful.. and the charisma, just in short you are an amazing artist !!
Good lord. Shivers... and kudos on catching your breath enough to land that bass at the end. 👏 👏 👏.
Colm back at it again! This guy doesn’t miss! Totally class!
Damn. That was a great assembly. Amazing percussion work. Haunting man.
This is a folk song that I grew up with. It's nice to hear it covered in a very different manner than how I always heard it.
Your version of this song never fails to bring a tear to my. Just beautiful!
I was not prepared for these feelings this morning. 😭
This is incredible, I haven’t heard a better rendition of poor wayfaring stranger 👏🏻👏🏻
I LOVE the Irish brogue and the control you have over your bass and upper octaves are freakin' incredible! You are my favorite oktavist.
I’ve watched this song about 15 times today, and the only complaint I have is I can’t add it to my regular playlist on Spotify. I love your music and your phenomenal voice, and I look forward to hearing more in the future!
Can hardly wait (setting the alarm)
Wow. That was awsome.
We are all born with skills and talents
Which life doesnt always illuminate.
You have certainly found some of yours.
And used them well.
The range, control and emotion you brought
Made a beautiful song even more so.
Congratulations
You did a good job
Thank you
Magnificent! I watch your videos from the shanty boom, and for almost every video I can say "damn, this is one of my favorite songs." It's amazing how cultural codes intersect across different parts of the world.
That last transition was incredible.
This is the moment I want to hear Colm McGuinness and Rachel Hardy sing together
Man I am so hyped🔥 I discovered you through my brother the other day and I watched the God of War cover I was literally blown away 💯💯
Its kinda funny how i was introduced to this song. It was from a series on youtube where the main cast were anthro animals and the song was sung by the cast when they had to save a lynx from this ancient black substance that was slowly turning the lynx into a human. The whole lore was that the substance was contained years ago by some monkeys and im pretty sure a bird after nearly swallowing the world when the main cast were kids.
Its an ongoing series last i checked, i just cant remember the name...
edit: Series is called "No evil" By Betsy Lee.
This brings a tear to the eyes for sure! Good show lad!
Why do you always set it up hours before. I want to hear it now. You're voice is just fitting for this song
Gotta let the hype build
Ikr? All aboard the hype train
This is bloody phenomenal, mate! I can just hear this rendition playing in some like post apocalyptic battle sequence or something. Which is to say that it is extremely epic! Well done!
The amazing range of his vocals is enough to make rum out of the ocean. Even the mighty Cthulu will drink with him.
Amazing cover your lows notes are on point and you high notes and at the end of the song just before you go back down to the low notes I know that's hard after all of those high notes but nothing is hard for you because your so dang good at what you do.
That is one of my favorite songs. What a beautiful rendition. Thank you!
Damn... the breath near the end after the high part before the last deep part. that got to me.
Can we all take a moment (or several) to just absorb that amazing, effortless, clean, vibrato. I know it doesn't always fit with the feel or style of a song, but that was some beautiful ear candy. Pardon me while I put this song on repeat for the next few hours.
Thank you so much! I’ve never been able to do vibrato before and really started learning how to do it this year, so that’s a huge relief! 🤜🤛
I set the alarm on my phone so I could listen at at 2am love this
Okay, I definitely have a favourite cover of this song now.
YES!!!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeep, new favorite version of a song I love, astounding work
The lighting is also on point! Not surprised, I just had to point it out. God, I love your voice!
