There are times that God will allow us to go through different pain, heartaches, and failures as a way to let US know that we need to be free from something that we need to heal from something. HE is oftentimes trying to tell us that we need to be free from idolatry. We need to be free from idolizing people, relationships, or whatever the case may be.
