my grandma used to go window shopping on the most expensive streets in Barcelona. She'd look at a dress and make the pattern at home from memory, just by looking at a dress. Superpowers!
@@susanagonzalezcodina9758 oohh mine as well:) when I was diagnosed with celiac she learned to make all my fave sweets gluten free!! And that is extraodinary.
Delilah's vocabulary is incredible for her age (coming from a primary school teacher here!) you can tell she takes on everything she hears/learns it's brilliant! Love the vlogs, I have watched you since before Delilah was born :) xxx
Don't be so hard on your self. Part of any art is trying to do something. That is how you grow. I was thinking oohh what are this tools, so cool to learn somethnig new. So keep up tha hobby, it is so good for mental rest I find. Xx
Just when I thought your vlogs couldn't get anymore cozy and homey, the sewing content adds a whole new level of coziness 😊. I can't wait to see your sewing adventures... I've actually been sewing for over 15 years and I always love seeing people pick up that hobby. It's such a lovely thing to be able to sewing your own clothing. But, I also have the similar tendency of making things more complicated than they should be-- I can never sew a pattern as it is. My degree is actually in fashion design, and if you like doing pattern hacks, I would suggest buying a basic dress pattern with a basic cap sleeve, & A-line skirt (something that has darts, not pleats or gathers), make a toile of it to fit Delilah. Then that will become your base pattern (called a sloper), that you can use to make practically any other design, such as making a puffed sleeve from the basic cap sleeve. I would recommend getting a pattern drafting book, which is an incredible resource to show you how to manipulate your sloper pattern to create other patterns. The one I've used is "Patternmaking for Fashion Design" by Helen Joseph-Armstrong. They do tend to be pricey but if you really want to start making clothes, it's an invaluable reference. I hope that might help you, and happy sewing adventures! ✨🧵✨
No the vlog isn’t fine. It’s fantastic! Loved watching the dress making project unfold. Good luck! Can’t wait to see the finished outfit! Delilah will love that her Mum made it for her. 🥰
I used to sew almost all my dresses, nighties, skirts, collots, and crafty things. Still have my mother sewing machine. But have not used it in years. I really need to sew some dresses. I don't know how but your vlogs have become even more cozy. Those bits with Delilah at bedtime are delightful. So looking forward to Christmas with your cozy little family. You really make my day.
Honestly i have to say your vlogs are my favourite! I’ve commented and messaged this before, they are so calming and comforting. I struggle with anxiety and your vlogs always seem to help me calm down, not only are they calming I have loved watching Delilah and you grow over the last couple years ! I truly appreciate the vlogs no matter how short or boring you may find them they’re something I look forward too and I tend to watch older vlogs all the time ! Lots of love Rhiannon, Doug and Delilah xo
I love how much time you have for Delilah. when you were cutting the pattern and she wanted to play shops and you obliged, many parents would say not now I'm busy.
I love how relatable and realistic your vlogs are. We all done things that do not come out how we wanted, but that is okay. I used to do glassblowing and had a hard time doing attachments and mug handles. I ended up spending a whole semester learning how to do them. Now I can do them easily. Just like you said trial and error is the best way to learn 🥰.
Absolutely love all your videos. Love how wholesome they are, just normal life that’s relatable, love how Delilah is growing up and how polite she is - such a credit to you. Also love yours and Doug’s relationship, so lovely to see. Xx
I love that you showed what sewing is actually like!. There are so many steps and I think new people to sewing get disheartened when it doesn't come together quickly and easily. At least they can see it's not just them. Even when you have some experience the process takes a while. I never plan to cut and sew a garment all in one day now, I've learnt that it's more fun if I break it down into bitesize chunks :) I'm loving Vlogtober, thanks for sharing what you're up to this month.
Your videos are always lovely and I look forward to them (no pressure on you though!), you don't need to worry about them (although being anxious person myself, I know that that is easier said than done and actually i am currently awake because I am too all over the place to sleep, ahh! but i find your videos comforting xx). A sewing tip that i have picked up is: if you are planning on washing the item of clothing, then pre-wash and iron the fabric before you cut out the pieces. otherwise when you've made the item using non pre washed, when you wash it for the first time and it warps, your item of clothing may become distorted! Don't know if you already id this or not! people have different views on pre-washing but better safe than sorry xx Side-note, that is such beautiful fabric, you do find such lovely things xx
This was a great vlog!! It was great to see the sewing process (and as someone who makes MANY mistakes while sewing, it's comforting to see others go through a similar process) :)
The easiest way to put the lining with the dress is to first stitch the shoulders and sides first, And then putting the lining under the top fabric as you would, seam allowances face each other. Go in-between the two layers pinching the seam allowances around the neckline and pulling it inwards between the two fabrics and out. Then pin around and match shoulder seams and stitch all around. Once that's done you can top stitch the lining with the seam allowance to keep it down 🥰 you can repeat the same for the armholes... im sure you know all of this, just a little reminder. Once you get started it all comes running back. 🧵👗
How cozy! Taking the time to fumble with a New project, cute games and yummy meals. Love it! I am tecnically a seamstress, but I never really worked in my field. I find myself in the same exact process every time I start a new project. Mostly toddler joggers, leggins, and the odd shirt. Her sleeping bag must be the biggest project I've ever Made her. Two thick layers of coat wool, lined with leftover silk from my wedding dress. It should have been such a simple straight forward project, but I really struggled at points. Also, all the super practical equipment we had in scool really spoiled me.
Been watching some of your older vlogs (2014 time) & they’ve made me feel all nostalgic and relaxed for the past few weeks, so happy you’ve continued to carry that in your vlogs throughout the years ☺️💓
Wow so cool to be able to make patterns and your own clothes! As a woman with a very full figure I WISH I could make my own clothes as I feel like they would fit and be flattering.... I look forward to seeing the final product ☺️🌷
You're making me want to make a top for myself now and i've never gone near a sewing machine in my life! Were you listening to the radio or a playlist in the background when you were cutting the pattern? I love all them songs and need a chill playlist like that for when i'm working!💖xx
Thank you for your vlogs✨! Is one of my favorite times of my day, love catching up with you 💖! When I sew clothes the pattern part is my least favorite 😬😂
Loved this vlog. I started sewing about a year ago and make a lot of my own clothes now. There are a lot of independent pattern designers on Instagram - if you have a look around you might find something that suits your style :)
I should have said, our table is wrecked and covered in all sorts (needs to be sanded and varnished) which is why I didn’t bother putting anything underneath x
My aunty who is in her 70's has the table my mum and her 3 sisters used to mark out patterns in the 60's and 70's. I love looking at the little marks the roller has made from years of dress making.
Love Rhiannon and loving these vlogs but surely I can’t be the only one wanting her to tuck all her hair behind her ears! I get it’s a style thing but now I’ve noticed it, I can’t stop staring at those two strands! No hate just something I’ve started noticing lately! ❤️
