Beautiful touch. Thanks, Rob. I studied with Barry in the mid-70s. And remember that arrangement! A great teacher, fine player and gentle human being...
What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life not too shabby either. Tho I can't seem to find that one in a published version. And lost my handwritten chart years ago.
Amazing performance, Rob. I got out my Barry Galbraith book, and sure enough, there it was, on page 42. I suppose now I know why I never tired it. Daunting, but beautiful.
This is so beautifully done. I just got one of those guitars on Craig's List (a 2008) and you have inspired me to get serious with it. Your playing is sweet and unpretentious. Thank you for sharing this.
Beautiful playing and a beautiful sound on the unamplified archtop. I found this whilst comparing archtops online - specifically how the guitar sounds unamplified. This is one of the few videos I've seen where you really get an idea of the sound the guitar makes - thanks to your masterful playing.
Lovely, and all the more because it shows the depth of your musical sensitivity. Have you written this down....for purchasing? You are alot of fun Rob.
Thanks, Heidi. The arrangement is by Barry Galbraith, a wonderful jazz guitarist from the mid 20th century. His two books of arrangements (standard notation plus tab) are available from the publisher, Mel Bay. Highly recommended! Cheers, Heidi. Rob
Absolutely outstanding. This music ignites souls and inspires imagination . I would be glad to practice on this as you do , but I would need to see both chords and melody as well… Where can I find it?
Sorry, I first replied for another video I did today. The Barrie Galbraith arrangement comes from one of two books of his arrangements published by Mel Bay.
Beautiful, Rob. I recall you mentioning that you sold this guitar. Even so very glad I found this performance. I have the same model and wondered if you are using rounds? I recall that you made the change from flats to rounds on your 371 (did you wind up keeping that axe?).
+David Rowe Hi David. These are rounds. I prefer rounds on acoustic instruments with a floating pickup, flats on electric guitars with a humbucker. I've actually sold many of my instruments recently, and have gone back to classical guitar playing with gut strings, see rmClassicalGuitar.com
Cheers, Wasim. It is published by Mel Bay. Go to melbay.com and search for Barry Galbraith. You can order it as a hard copy, or download it immediately. The whole book is wonderful.
Helios Puppy Ah, I see what you mean. I thought you might have meant that, but as it's not plugged in... I actually sold the guitar - I liked it a lot, but there was something about it I didn't get on with.
Thanks, Alex. It's an Eastman 810CE, if I remember correctly. Long gone now, but it was a good one. Good luck with the book! Some tricky stuff in there.
this is a brutal arrangement and the hardest one by far in the book. Thanks for showing us how it's done.
It’s a beautiful arrangement, I’d say, but, yes, hard work. Keep at it. Don’t ever give up!
Beautiful touch. Thanks, Rob. I studied with Barry in the mid-70s. And remember that arrangement! A great teacher, fine player and gentle human being...
Cheers, David. I hope he would have liked it. Probably his best arrangement.
What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life not too shabby either. Tho I can't seem to find that one in a published version. And lost my handwritten chart years ago.
I must say I am terribly envious. The more I get into Barry, the more in awe I am.
Beautiful version of a beautiful tune Rob.Thanks!
Cheers, Jim!

Cheers, Joe. I'm just pleased I got through it without any big mishap!
Beautiful!
Beautiful, Rob.
+kamlapati Thank you!
Just absolutely ravishing.
Cheers, Michael. Galbraith was a genius. Monk too, of course.
@@RobMacKillop1 For sure. I'm sure enjoying your channel man. Just superb musicianship.

+Matt Franco Thanks, Matt. Appreciated. I'd forgotten about this one! Not bad. Room for improvement :-)
what kind of guitar is that?

Cheers, Paul. It's a fine guitar, but the pickup is very poor. An upgrade would be a good idea.
Thanks, Master. So beautiful as always.
Thanks, Esper.
Rob, that was an awesome rendition, Very tastefully done ...Bravo Sir!!!!!

Class !Τhe replay button has got stuck !
Hey Rob, I love your tone. Can you tell me what strings you're using in this video? I'd love to get some on my own AR810ce. Thanks.
+James Cole - Cheers, James. I'm sorry to say I can't remember. Probably 80/20 brass, but I can't remember the make.
Spellbinding. Thank you.
Wonderfull piece and performance. Where do I get the score
Cheers, Wasim. It is published by Mel Bay. Go to melbay.com and search for Barry Galbraith. You can order it as a hard copy, or download it immediately. The whole book is wonderful.
Thanks a lot
I don't typically care for "floaters", however your guitar sounds beautiful & sumptuous. Fantastic job!. Jeff
"Floaters"?
Rob MacKillop HI,
Your guitar appeared to have a floating pickup (as opposed to a top mounted pickup). Either way, it sounds great. Jeff
Helios Puppy Ah, I see what you mean. I thought you might have meant that, but as it's not plugged in...
I actually sold the guitar - I liked it a lot, but there was something about it I didn't get on with.
This really is beautiful. I am working my way through that book and your performance was inspiring. What kind of guitar is that? It sounds great.
Thanks, Alex. It's an Eastman 810CE, if I remember correctly. Long gone now, but it was a good one. Good luck with the book! Some tricky stuff in there.
Awesome :)
Cheers, Robin.
nice tone and touch you have.... do you do any impro? or it's all in the arrangement?
Cheers, Yuri. It's all in the arrangement. It's a fantastic arrangement.
fab
Are you sattisfied with your Eastman guitar? It sounds nice! John
Yes, it is a fantastic guitar.
😎
Hi..are u playing this arrangement as written..it seems to not match the key
As written, though I might be at a lower pitch - sometimes I do that.
The original key is E flat minor, so it is usually played in the guitar-friendly key of Em, e.g. the beautiful arrangement by Baden Powell.
Bello, joan,,Catalonia free,💕💕❤️
And Scotland!
swoon
It's a great arrangement of a great tune.
