@@billythecat The reason I thought so was because there was a scene in which a woman, who seemed to be one of those six, recalled happy memories of the past while playing a VHS analog video tape. In the K-drama '2521', the main character's daughter opens her mother's diary and the viewer's point of view moves to the past. However, in this music video, an adult woman who appears to be one of those six children activates the VTR and fragments of the past are played out on the screen. Of course, this music video has an atmosphere and foreshadowing that there will be more terrible incidents than 2521, but the heartbreaking storyline of looking back on the past youth seemed similar. The feeling of a beautiful memory passing through her heart painfully and vaguely like a sharp knife. It's like watching an old video clip of a dead person you can't see again in a state of nostalgia. That's why the subdued horror feeling that runs throughout the music video seemed to imply that. Such a gloomy atmosphere is like a different point from k-drama 2521.
@@Miles_Link yeah I see. I admire the storytelling but its too sad and painful. I admire the storytelling but I cant understand why you have to make such a sad mv for an upbeat song. The MV makes me depressed. I swear for anyone going through grief and or depression, this mv seriously fuels their pain.
Here's my theory: This Heesoo is Newjeans' friend who survived a car accident; that's why her arm was broken; she felt too much guilt over her friend's death, so she was depressed and a little crazy. When she saw the deer, it was a sign that her friend in the afterlife wanted Heesoo to be cheerful again and forget about her guilt; that's when she decided to break her camera. At the beginning of side A and the end of side B video, Heesoo is seen wearing white clothes, indicating that she is an adult version of Heesoo, whose hand has healed, and wants to see her old video with Newjeans when she was in school.

-First of all, NJS takes pictures with a camera and the name of the female student is called Ban Hee Soo in this video film. Minji and other members call me that. And this means Barney, the NJS fandom name.
-Side A is the NJS that Barney sees, and Side B is the music video of Barney's eyes that Barney sees.

YOU HAVE TO SEE SIDE A!
I have a theory, the camera girl went in a deep depression till the point she's still in denial and kept lying to herself, which led her to lost completely sense of reality cuz she lost her friends (NewJeans) in an accident, that's why the arm cast and everybody is kinda concerned about her, but they don't want to take proper action cuz, as I know, Koreans doesn't like to interfere in other persons problems and the only person who really wants to reach her is the guy, that maybe has liked her even before the accident so that's why he keeps looking for her in a way from afar. And the new video tapes she first saw in the side A mv kept showing her the reality she's in, so that's why she threw the camera in the side B mv where everything started making sense. AND the last video she saw was the original one where her friends (NewJeans) DID appeared, and is stored in a box cuz is part of her treasured memories and now she can see it with nostalgia cuz she came to accept her lose and is capable to move on and thats why she is seen walking with the guy at the end, he maybe helped her getting through all of the grief and denial. The deer can represent two things a non-confrontational personality (side A) that happens to be her looking at herself in the white scenario or could be an observational, empathetic, and sympathetic side of someone who could represent the guy (Side B) that's why it appeared in the school where he always is watching her with concern.

The side "a" tells even more of a story like I don't know how to explain, it's just crazy the work done on their mv

the name of the girl with camcorder is Ban Hee Soo, which comes from Bun-nie-s, the fandom name of NewJeans. you can easily inteprete this MV with this hint. this song is about the relationship between NewJeans, its fans and their lives. someday, passion toward NewJeans of its fans will dwindle and disappear like depicted in this MV but their lives will go on with real love(the guy in MV)

You're not wrong Terry, they def have a sound and I'm here for it! It's very rare that I like GGs because they tend to not stick out to me. Not that GGs are all the same but that rookie groups right off the bat aren't catching my eyes. BGs always come out strong and sometimes take a while to find their sounds so I TOTALLY agree with you that not only is it rare but also it's so good.
Funny thing, their nostalgic vibe is what I specifically can relate to because I grew up in the 90s and their style reminds me of a combo of all the hip things from the 90s. Their aesthetics, their voices, beats and choreo....it's all on point of 90s RnB and Pop. Very proud to Stan NewJeans right now. 🙌🏽

Not necessarily. If that was the case artists like Lana Del Rey, Billie Eilish, etc. would have flopped but there are ways to stay fresh while staying true to who you are.

If I had to guess the story, I think New Jeans died.
I think the 6th girl was their friend and they possibly all suffered some sort of accident that was fatal for NJs and the sixth girl survived. Hence the cast.
But she can't seem to accept the reality or deal with the grief so she's seen constantly reliving the pleasant experiences she had with them while filming them. But they're not dead to her, that's why she keeps filming after the fact.
This is why the girls write on her cast but nothing is there. She paints Minji's pinky finger but it's actually her own. People are calling her but she can't pick up.
The guy, I think, saw that she was suffering but didn't know how to adequately approach her. In side A, she sticks with NJs, staying her delusion till the end. In Side B, she walks away from them in the rain, chooses to hang out with the guy, and is looking back at NJs as an adult. While in Side A it starts with her watching the old videos.
This is not a title track, it’s prerelease single. Their tittle track is OMG and will be released on January 2nd 2023

INFORMATION: The movie that this MV is presumed to be a reference to (I used a translator because my English was bad.)
First of all, all interpretation is basically individual freedom. I'm just writing down what the motif of this MV is for those who are curious.
Perhaps this MV brings a lot of references from the classic 90-00s horror film '여고괴담(女高怪談, Whispering Corridors)' in Korea.
The Girl's High School Ghost Story(a literal translation of a 여고괴담)is a series of movies, and in this MV, the atmosphere and emotions of the first and second episodes of the Girl's High School Ghost Story are felt a lot.
series 1: 여고괴담1(1998)(女高怪談, Whispering Corridors)
series 2: 여고괴담2(1999)(Memento Mori)
For your information, rather than focusing on horror, this series focuses on psychological descriptions and anxious atmospheres of adolescent girls such as anxious psychology, relationships, stress and anxiety caused by schoolwork, and although ghosts come out, there are not many cruel or disgusting directions. So people who can't watch horror movies can watch it without any burden.
(And as with many other series of movies, up to the third one was fine, but then the movie gets a little ruined. So if you want to watch it, I recommend that you only watch the previous series.)
Then, why did PD Min Hee-jin use this movie as a reference among the many Y2K elements?
I thought about it. That's our "school life as teenagers wasn't always happy."
Perhaps most people have stress behind their friendship with friends because of uncertainty in their relationship, anxiety about grade management, and various other reasons, so school life was a happy and sad, fun but terrible place. That movie looks at school from this 'adolescent point of view' like this 'love and hate'. Also, that movie is a representative work that focuses on girls' stories better than other movies from the 90s. (In Korea, it is very symbolic and famous in many ways.)
And in fact, many Koreans thought of "여고괴담 girls' high school ghost stories" while watching this music video, and if you look at the MV's Korean comments on the NewJeans channel, you will be able to easily find references to "여고괴담 girls' high school ghost stories."
(So did I. I was born in the '90s. I'm the one who's seen all the works mentioned above. And now this music video is surprisingly similar in mood and content to that horror movie.)
There are many other reasons, but for these reasons, I think PD Min Hee-jin chose this movie as the main reference and directed the MV.

Side B comes first in my recommendations but you should look at Side A because it's literally the goosebump-inducing MV.
And the B-side is really like saying "In the A-side, you didn't misunderstand what happened".

The Swedish sound is trademark -- so clean. Think of all the 90s music from our generation, i.e. N'SYNC, Britney, Backstreet Boys, etc. -- Swedish production on all of their hits. It's nice to see them coming full circle with the new generation and it's giving everyone that feel-good nostalgic feel. NewJeans is now at the top of my list, even more than all that I've loved in the past few years. Between this track "Ditto" and "OMG", these stay on repeat...never have I had a group do that to me. Even my Spotify had to tell me that I listened to "Attention" almost 100 times since August. "Ditto" and "OMG" are on their way to run up those same numbers. Wow!

They were her friends and got in an accident involving the dear and she recorded places that they used to hang out at when they were still there but she only survived the accident and then on the B side how they showed the deer at the end of the hall and then her and the boy walking and then the deer walked away thats like a symbolizing of the girls like “you finally moved on” etc. she was lonely knowing that her friends

Aswell as how you see in A side how they walked in the rain together and then in B side she, walked alone in the rain while holding her umbrella to her side bc thats what they used to do all together. Also she destroyed the camera to not rely on those memories bc she wouldnt be able to move on, so she destroyed the camera that was her only way to cope

Heesoo's presence is a fan, and he liked NewsGins. When it rains (when it's hard), fans get rained on together, comfort fans when they're arm and limb, and they're precious to each other when they're young, but the man behind shows a fan facing reality. Then throw away the video and leave (man = reality)

The 6th member of NewJeans has always been Min Hee(soo)Jin. The girls that only she can see is because nobody thought her new gg concept would work. The video tapes and old equipment represent her past youth and that era she’s trying to capture in the NJ. The cast on her arm and the cell phone at the end of side b is the hurt and criticism they’ve received online. The deer is the innocence she sees in her girls. That’s how I interpreted the videos. The side A and side B represent that there are two stories they are telling with the song, the more direct spooky story and secondly the one i theorized above.
Well, i believe in my opinion that New jeans must have died in a tragic accident because of the deer that she saw, and she has a cast on her arm. So i thought maybe she went through a traumatic experience and tried to go through it until she finally went through a painful experience and hung out with a boy. ( i heard someone said this in the MV comments.) I honestly don't think it could connect with fans and New jeans, i don't know the reason why, i just don't think so. Although, your theory does makes sense!
The camera girl actually has her name reveal on her uniform and her cast when NJ draw on it, and her full name shown is Ban Hee Soo (Bunnies) instead of their producer name.
I felt the same way after watching the MV especially side A. 😮

My Theory is that the girl with the camera got into a car accident & they other girls passed. Hit a deer maybe why a deer was in it. Also you can see she was hurt cus of the cast on her arm. They guy kept looking at her maybe because he felt bad. Also it's weird the camera girl is the main character from the show "All of us are dead" on Netflix. A show which they are school students which most of her friends died in the show.

Took a while for you to really start wondering about the story. Of course, you accidentally started with side B, but it also seems to me we're so used to kpop videos being primarily a series of visually striking, but disparate, scenes. NewJeans are breaking new ground here with this two-part arthouse mini movie.
