I have a W169 A 170 with a 6-speed racing gearbox, and rally suspension. Like driving on RAILS! His name is WOLF 888. My Pretty Beast. Like Freddy Mercury sings: "I'm In Love With My Car". LOL. If you don't look back when you lock your vehicle..... YOU are driving the WRONG vehicle!

I think Mercedes Benz are super great vehicles and the peak was until the mid 90'S , the w124 , and w140 , after that it started to go down specially in the designs , I use to have w210 3 of them and one 95 w124 , and couple of w140 , and the marvelous w126 560 SEL 1991 was a super beautiful car ,I never really liked anything after the w124 and w140

the suv was introduced in the north american market in 1948 every manufacturer had lines of them for 30-40 years by the time benz got into them..some manufacturers that was almost the only thing they made.i like the late 90's models.something about them just grabs my attention..like the 1930's models...the v8 they produce for racing now is ,wow, unreal motor (AMG).the hp and torque they can get out of them is awesome.

As I near retirement I am enjoying the 'search' for my Retirement Car. I am not going to make payments so I'm limited to about $40K so I can pay cash. Since these wonderful Mercedes are a bit Pricey the ones on my list are used, but will be Certified Pre-Owned with at least 3 years of Warranty. I learned many years ago to buy the highest quality you can afford. It is actually "cheaper" to buy a used $40,000 Dollar Mercedes than to buy a brand new Ford or Chevrolet. BMW/Mercedes are top quality. A friend of mine bought a brand new Mercedes AMG last year and she loves it. Once you drive a high quality German car you will be spoiled and cannot celebrate your Mustang or Vette because deep down you know they are second rate.

I would have agreed with you 20 years ago, however, more recently Mercedes quality has somewhat diminished with the advent of Japanese luxury makes that they didn't have to compete with 25 years ago. The only real direct competition Mercedes had back then was BMW, and even they weren't direct competition just the closest. With Lexus and Infiniti, Mercedes had to at the very least freeze their prices for the most part. I remember the 1990 420SEL listed at $62,510. That was an exorbitant amount of money then, and even now. Having said that, it just seems like the quality isn't the same. You no longer get the door closes that sound like bank vaults, and the feeling of the switches and knobs inside the car don't feel as substantial as they used to. And American cars have become much more well made. Actually, if you look at all the cars on the road today, nobody is putting out garbage. I realize some makes and their models are better than others, but there is no garbage being sold.

I used to be a huge Mercedes fan, had numerous cars of many models. The best I've ever owned was a 1978 450SEL 6.9, OMG what a beast. But MB stopped producing quality sturdy long lasting vehicles in 1991. Starting in 92 quality took a downturn and with the merger with Chrysler came nothing but over engineered and over priced plastic junk, the worst quality materials knocked together by the lowest bidder and thus joining all the other manufacturers in mass producing garbage, one way disposable cars, maximizing profits. And whenever i think they reached a limit in ugliness, they prove me wrong by coming out with an even uglier model. We could distinguish a Mercedes from any other kind of vehicle, they just stood out in beauty, design and status. Today you can't tell the difference anymore between a Mercedes and freakin' Hyundai

Too bad they didn't wait until 2007 or so to make this documentary. Our W219 CLS 63 AMG is a masterpiece in both luxury and performance. This "Best or Nothing" slogan is a real thing. Once you drive the Best, you accept nothing less!
EDIT: Well, that last bit isn't entirely true. I can still appreciate something from just about any car on the road; it's just that I've been a Benz boy since my dad got the CLS in November of 2015. It's a more like a proverbial measuring stick.

The 190 may have passed the asymmetrical front-impact test, but the recent C Class did not score well. As usual the initial version of the 190 was not considered a great car; it was cheap and underpowered. True to form, the C Class did earn a good reputation until just recently when it was pushed upstairs to make room for the CLA, which again is not well considered. Surprisingly, given the Germans scrupulous attention to detail, there are malapropisms and mispronunciations in all 4 parts. This is the 4th part, but the screen labels it as Part 3. CONT. The text beats around the bush and does not admit that the continuous improvements to the C Class are aimed at addressing its shortcomings vis-à-vis the BMW 3 Series. Just notice how many references are made to improved performance. In my opinion the 3 is just a tiny, overpriced shitbox. It supposedly handles very well, but it is the same size as a Corolla and costs three times as much. There is nothing in that car to warrant its absurd price. It goes to show that if you keep telling people something often enough, they will believe it -- the power of advertising! The M-B V-6 engine sounds and runs lousy. The angle is supposed to be 60 degrees for a V-6, not 90. I don't know if the angle ha been changed. The only engines naturally in running balance are opposed 4-cyl. like the Beetle's and the Subaru's, and I-6s, which are sweet and smooth. The BMW I-6 is sweet. A five-cyl. engine is a sin against the laws of physics. CU, however, said that the new M-B I-4 is the quietest, smoothest, and most refined that it has ever tested; it does have a counter-rotating balance shaft.
