- The Tiago JTP had several positive aspects that made it appealing to certain customers. It had pretty good performance, nicer suspension, it offered great value for money and it had a sporty interior, yet it failed to make a dent in the Indian performance hatch market. Tata Motors announced their joint venture with Jayem Auto in March 2017. Exactly 3 years after the announcement, their joint venture came to an end on 4th March 2020. Tata claimed it was that because of the pandemic the sales figures didn’t justify continuing the production of the JTP vehicles, but what is the real reason that the Tiago didn’t manage to compete with the established kings of the segment? These cars make the Punto Abarth look so good in comparison.
Yup, also the Abarth was cheaper than the Polo GT TSI back then ;)
I want every Indian car makers should have a small fun sporty car like polo gti… it’s our middle class sports car…and preferably first car for all new race car lover with low budget…Tata should definitely release altroz racer… it would be fun to modify it just like we all do to our gt 650… small things makes us happy…😊

I seriously want to own a Tiago JTP just to own an Indian performance car, going on a beautiful march morning drive in mussoorie with windows down listening to that turbo all day while bumping to the awesome H&K system
They should bring back the JTP branding and just call it the Altroz JTP instead of that stupid "Racer" name. Tata Motors probably sees the JTP/JTSV name as a failure in their books which could be a reason to kill it forever. And that is just sad because it wasn't a failure, they made two of the most amazing and underrated cars ever to be sold in the country. They just failed at marketing them. They don't realise the value of that badge.
Jtp was because of the people who actually modified this car. Why would they call it jtp when Jayem Automotive is not modifying it.
I get that but they should for the brand/badge recall value and it's legacy. "JTP" is unique and also has a nice ring to it, the branding team did a great job. It could be like GTI, vRS, AMG, SVR etc. "Racer" is so generic.
They always had a second full-form to the acronym on the brochures etc. which was "Joy. Torque. Power." so it could just mean that going forward, it wouldn't matter much.
Tata owns 100% of the JV now which must include the rights to the JTP name as well unless something is specified on the paperwork which I'm sure they can figure out if they wanted to. But they wouldn't because like I mentioned they must see it as a failure even though it really wasn't. So I know that it won't make a comeback, but I'm still putting it out there just in case.
They should make JTP as an aspirational brand! Even better a worldwide product!
Totally agreed on Indians comment on wanting to buy great driving car but buy budget ones, hence their strategy!
Maybe the problem isnt jtp or racer but the fact that there are no accolades….. if a company wants to sell a hot hatch or any r/s variant they should go racing with it or atleast have some other models with racing experience….. if tata went rallying with an altroz now that is some absolutely cool factor it needs for real sales
It's because Jayem has nothing to do with Tata now. Tata don't need Jayem now because by this time, they already have the expertise and resources for making a beast like altroz racer. That said, I agree they need a new franchise for the racing edition.
Have a stage 1 diesel Altroz and the car has been transformed post remap. Handling of the Altroz is very good from the factory so it handles the increased power with ease.
How much it cost for remapping & what's the power output figure.

One correction , I think its the Kari motor speedway in Coimbatore and not the MMRT in chennai displayed on the engine cover.

It’s a generic track layout. They used kari’s layout before production but due to some unknown reasons they went with a generic track layout.

I own this car, trust me it's a mini beast. Once you drive this car, you will like other natural engine cars. The only drawback is the fuel economy. It's been five years with this car and I will keep it for another 5 years for sure.

I own Tiago JTP 2019 version. Absolutely zero regrets on my choice though. Yes,the mileage is an issue coz of the turbocharger. However the driving in highways and hilly roads is a dream

I think the choice of the car caused the failure. Altroz with 140 hp from factory with handling mods will sell as it won’t be embarrassing to use on a day to day basis to work or to show off.

I wanted to buy the JTP but the dealers were not having a test drive vehicle. When I finally located a test drive vehicle it was in Hyderabad some 450 kms from where I live that too the test drive vehicle was availble on specific days. So I dropped the idea of buying a JTP and bought a Ford Figo Blu DIesel.
How much was it priced at?

i think it was the looks that was the reason it didn't sell well, the polo looked far more handsome and hence sold better especially with the aftermarket bodykits and lighting mods supports
They should bring JTP with more refined, Altroz Racer in competition with other cars, it is a dream car for middle class people and affordable for them

You know what would've worked? A Nexon JTP. It would've sold like hot cakes, if it would've made around 140-150 bhp, and about 200nm torque.

Nexon has the most powerful petrol engine Tata Motors has, So Nexon JTP was impossible but maybe it's in concept or R&D who knows??

Yeah they had to rework the whole engineering of that bs4 engine to meet bs6 norms which they don't want to because it was already cost a bomb developing these two twins. That's why they reworked it for altroz iturbo instead.
Every Indians wants a hot hatch but in reality their sales volume speaks.. No one buy those powerful engine everyone wants milage... Look at the fiat punto
Any1 here to help regarding Tigor JTP service. I am from Kerala. No one is able to bring back the performance it had. My car has run 65k kms. Now switiching on SPORTS mode is just for name sake, car performance is seriously very very bad. Pls help.

In a market filled with mileage seekers, it's remarkable that an Indian car maker has thought of a miniscule tribe who yearn for performance; only, they haven't done the full monty. I personally didn't buy it because I didn't find the car exciting enough. I wish they would bring out a true blue hot rod. I'll be the first to sign up.
In my opinion the looks werent promising for a hot hatchback. The hood tho packs alot but as we all know the Tata lacks in After sales service it wouldnt be a practical hatchback with such sporty insertts to maintain in daily drives. The engine and power tho does a great job

It was such a disgrace that Tata has discontinued JTP & Hexa. They should have waited little more before discontinuing.
The major reason of low sales was due to lack of marketing by Tata, just because of very poor marketing these vehicles got low sales.
I went to book JTP but it was late when I got to know about it. . . .
I remember test driving one and was left wanting something more. Hence the failure I suppose.

It already had so much vibration plus turbo meaning unpleasant drive so it was a flop. Plus it had many mechanical issues which its service centers could not fix leading to more failure. Waste of time.
They should stop doing crap thing like jtp version. Reason being less popularity in terms of handling and swiftness of engine as compared of polo. Other point being even 90's gen is not able to digest the over expense on a practical car😅. Tata just reading the stories of success in books and not thinking abkut indian mind. It can be sold as diwali edition and onrky if it gets popular be cause of handling.

Tiago JTP stock is a shitty car. I own a Nexon and my friend owns a JTP with cobra springs from amracing and Wolf Remap. Even after the remap, the Nexon is faster. I haven’t driven it stock so I doubt how much power it has. And the stock suspension is soft and corners like a skateboard.
People giving Gaalis to Tata for stopping JTPs and compare it with Polo haven’t driven either and don’t know shit till they actually own one.
Tiago JTP was pretty fast & could reach 100km/hr in under 10s.
i was owned years ago though very bad in economic mode. i asked once with race concepts, they said just custom airintake & exhaust. Nothing do with ECU. Already its unlocked engine headroom
