Recently I accepted a job offer from a company which offered me a higher salary than what i was requesting. It gives me a hope that this will be finally the right place for me. I am starting my job next month.
My biggest mistake was getting too comfortable in a job; it always resulted in me getting laid off because of restructuring or other nonsense caused by upper management errors. As always, those at the lower level of the totem pole pay the price by losing their jobs. Other mistakes include trusting too much in companies and bosses, believing their moral nonsense, thinking they care about us, mixing my personal life with my professional one instead of keeping them separate, being too honest in job interviews, etc. I could write a wall of text about more mistakes I’ve made that, in hindsight, I would never do again, but I'll think what I shared is enough for now.
Do you mean staying in the same position within a company for too long, or staying with the same company as a whole? I've seen some people move between positions within the same company and they seem to be very successful
@@diegofula staying in one position. Most of the companies I worked for had me stuck in one position even when I made an attempt to transfer internally. Everytime I made a change, it was good for me, because it advanced my skill set and eventually led to a higher paycheck.
I agree playing it safe early on was a real big barrier to my success. I never really got going past the VP level in my jobs and I’m stuck there to this day until retirement. Yes if you swing the fences, you can strike out but if you’re 29 years old, you can get many many more at bats as long as you remain respectful and don’t burn your bridges. You have lots of time to recover at that age. I’m 64 now and I cannot afford to swing the bat anymore. I just bought and get on first and have the rest of the team drive me around the bases. It’s sad but true.
Here I am 46, finally figuring this one out........been winging it for 44 years...just started making strategy decisions now, with the help of your channel. I was able to upgrade to a great new position after two years (current). Never too late! I'll be continuing the trend for the remaining years. I leveled up as a Technician in a certain industry, but then switched as there was nowhere else to go from where I was at. Started all over with a new industry, and had to step down, but it's actually really refreshing as I have a better idea what to do with this new step forward. Thanks for your content mate!
I'm not in my 20's and I still need something like this. I'm new to the job thing as it is, but where I live, there's like...Nothing that I could actually do with the little skills I have. I already know I am not working with food, and otherwise I'm considering trying a little hustle with art commissions - maybe virtual coloring pages if that's a thing? Then I can just use art I've already done and not worry too much about new requests unless someone wants customs of their OCs. Idk how it would work though, since I also want to keep art enjoyable for myself - it's how I express myself and how I feel, so if I lose comfort in it, then I'm kinda stuck and would go back to breaking walls...
Wish I went through college and got my adhd under control. I took my granddads advice (Im 40 now so you can get a time frame) of just "working hard and staying loyal." He came from the WW2-post ww2 era and supported a family of 4 with his income at a Raleys.....
I feel like I need behavioral therapy myself, as someone with autism. I struggle with communication unless it's by text, so most jobs aren't really up my alley. My lack of job skills doesn't help. :/ My granddad said the same thing in a way! His was more like "If your boss asks you to make a mud pie, you don't ask why or say no. You simply ask 'where can I get the mud?'." I'm sorry, but I will ask why, especially if it's not in the job description. If my boss asked me to strip, you want me to do that too, sir?? He was around that era as well, and was actually in the military, so his family definitely has some of that mindset - though maybe not to that extent.
My last job taught me that I haven’t gotten my ADHD under control and this is after a bachelors education. I made a fool of myself in some environments.
I did regret leaving my internship early for a job offer in another state that only last for 7 months. I did enjoy my internship and I only left a bit early since I wasn't sure if I was gonna get a full time offer.
Yup, not having a clear career plan definitely halted my career, as well. Ended up doing a career change in my mid-twenties, which isn’t old or “too late,” but I’m definitely behind, compared to my peers who are doing better than me because they had a plan after college and stuck with it. Ah well. But, I also took some jobs at low quality employers, because I didn’t know what the hell I was doing and took whatever to “get my foot in the door.” 🤦♀️ it wasn’t until I did that career change and started working for a real company that I was able to formulate an actual plan. Not negotiating also screwed me! I would take the first offer, because I was either under the assumption that that’s what the role paid, and I should just be happy for the job/small pay increase from the prior role. It wasn’t until I checked the job market for my next move if I don’t get the promotion, only to realize I’m about $10k/year underpaid. I’m definitely not making that mistake ever again. lol
I am not an HR professional nor do I play one on TV or UA-cam. With that out of the way, I would caution 20-somethings of jumping from job to job. I see ya'all saying not to stay too long, but I would remind some commentors some young people don't necessarily have the wherewithal to move up quickly. When I was young, I tried to stay at least a year. I found out the hard way that even when I worked in state government, even moving within government, other hiring managers questioned why I was moving so much...even for promotions.
So many people are scared and get comfortable where they are at. Before you know it 10 yrs pass, 15, 20,25 and then all you have experience in is that one particular job.
Wow that's nice His makes you that much!! please is there a way to reach him services, I work 3 jobs and trying to pay off my debts for a while now!! Please help me...🙏🙏
I'd have to disagree with the negotiating offers section. That's not apparently a choice if you're living in a third-world country especially if you're not in the metro. It's not that we don't get regret it, but rather we don't get a choice in regards to what salary we can get due to the limited offers in our area.
Even in the U.S., there are quite a few career fields in which employers simply will not negotiate, period. “This is the offer. Take it or leave it.” I’ve worked in one of them for more than 20 years but am on my way out. There are several reasons, and this is one of them.
Hi. Could you please make a video how that happened that you became a recruiter? Was it chosen career or something that was taken out of lack of other ideas? I think a head of HR or a chief of people officer would be a better title for you considering your expertise and experience.
tell me about it dude my mindset shifted from maximum 1 year to minimum 2 years at current position turning 25 in a couple months and first job in career!
I believe in the DeleteMe segment, the company's name should be pronounced 'e c squared' rather than "e c 2". The name seems to refer to Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity, E = mc^2 where E is energy, m is mass and c^2 is the speed of light squared.
Biggest regret is listening to Brian and quitting a stable and good paying job for a higher salary job that I ended up hating. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Don’t listen to Brian. He flip flops his views like Kamala. He tells you to quit your job then tells you don’t quit your job. He’ll do anything for clicks and views. 😂

The companies that preach honesty and integrity are the biggest back stabbing liars!
1st to comment....
I made huge mistake of assuming colleagues were my best friends. They had me fired ...
I've made that mistake of becoming too close to some colleagues, but fortunately never led to a firing.
it bizarre how deceiving people can be
Biggest mistake is to stay in one job for too long.

Yup. I learned this hard way.
A good employer won't limit your career path within the company. If they do, leave.
@UnCoolDad at every company, there is a ceiling whether it is by the company or by the limits of an employee.
Thank you! I’m sharing with my daughters who are new into the career world!

Why?
