A new year only means more technological advances and one-ups within the VPN world, and while I’m all here for development, it does make picking the best VPN difficult! Look, it's no secret that for most of 2023, NordVPN was my favorite, is that still the case in 2024? Let’s see in this updated NordVPN review!

📺NordVPN performance test - is it fast enough for streaming?

‘Performance’ is a blanket term for all the things I do with a VPN, and how well I can do them. Take streaming, as an example. The popularity of accessing various streaming platforms, regardless of your location, has boomed in recent years, and with that has come the task of finding a VPN that can rise to the challenge.
When I talk about performance, I’m of course referring to speeds, too. NordVPN has blown me away in pretty much all of my speed tests throughout 2023, and is it the same with recent testing? Because of their modern NordLynx protocol, they’re still one of the fastest on the market. In my testing, even industry titans like Surfshark or ExpressVPN aren’t surpassing their speeds.

💰Is NordVPN worth it?

Well, I can’t say NordVPN is expensive, but is the pricing justified? Considering I can do most activities I’d expect from a VPN every day efficiently, and they have a high amount of features for security, ease, and quality of life, I’d say so! It is cheaper than ExpressVPN, that’s for sure, but it does cost more than some competitors, like Surfshark. Let’s just say it is a middle-ground provider with flexible plans that can suit most users, and whilst it is faster and has more servers than the aforementioned VPNs, that’s reason enough to charge a couple of extra bucks.
Right, but is NordVPN free? Not really, they do have a trial - but for anything long-term, I’d highly recommend signing up for their premium subscription. Besides, there’s a 30-day money-back guarantee if you find it isn’t for you.

🔐What is NordVPN’s security and privacy?

Starting with jurisdiction. This is a big check from me, with a jurisdiction based in Panama, it means they aren’t tied to any data collection laws, unlike other providers' jurisdictions. Furthermore, their security architecture is solid. There’s strong encryption - which is virtually unhackable - RAM-only servers, that can’t retain any user data by design, and in my opinion, are one of the most secure and anonymous things a VPN can use.
There’s even a functioning Kill Switch, which didn’t leak any of my information online when testing. This is especially important for those who use a VPN for anonymity, and I would never use a VPN without a full-proof Kill Switch in 2024.
Digging deeper into this VPN review, there are extra security features. Back in 2023, they shook the VPN market up, updating their Threat Protection feature by adding more anti-malware and phishing capabilities. Whilst it still doesn’t compare to a fully-fledged antivirus, it still helps keep my device safe from malware by blocking ads, and trackers, and scanning any downloaded files for malware.

Being a novice, in a getting a vpn for first time. Nord offers an individual ip as optional does that make it more secure or easier to use internet?? Even without the specific ip how does one use an ip address on a laptop is it a separate setup after, one pays for subscription or it automatically applied and you use the map thing to be able to view things that would be blocked in your area.
