For those wondering, if a human made a sound proportional to its size that a water boatman made, it would be ~170 decibels, which is roughly the noise created from a rocket lifting off if you’re standing right next to it
I asked GPT-4 to calculate this and it said "This would correspond to a decibel level of about 142 dB for a human, which is extremely loud-comparable to the sound intensity of a jet engine at close range." (still very loud!)
Awesome lesson! Small correction though - kangaroos aren't born into the pouch, they are born out of the cloaca and have to climb up the mother and into the pouch while they're in their tiny larva-esque state. It's an insane design concept that frankly should have never survived evolution.
honestly makes me think of genetic fitness - kinda like how sperm thrive in alkaline environments and the vagina is acidic - creating trials before too many resources have been given to the organism to see if it's stong enough to be naturally selected

@Dom It's admittedly been a couple decades since I graduated HS, so... maybe classes are more progressive and less reserved about what constitutes as being """inappropriate language not fit for teachers to use"""...? 🤷♂️ Because had students came back and gleefully quoted something their teacher said that they found educational, yet funny, like Maya had used frequently... They'd have either been put on probationary leave, or fired. I had a few teachers who were like Maya, but pretty sure they had tenure. And it's not that they used boundary pushing language due to job security and not giving a shit. They used it because they were respecting us as young-adults, and knew full-will that WE used that language every single day when amongst friends. In other words, they were making class more like a relaxing place amongst friends, than a boring hour with an uptight adult with an authority complex. To no surprise, it was the teachers who taught Shop and Auto; however, my Senior year English teacher also was laid-back in terms of language use (heh no pun intended). I always sucked in English class (overall I was a C-avg student), but wouldn't you know it... I had a B+ _(or higher?)_ in his class! *[/ramble]*
I mean, when it's in real life, you're actually interrupting the teacher, she can just ignore chat and she can keep going and everyone can still hear her
Gotta say, this is such a solid education format. One might argue that chat was goofing around but the fact is they stayed engaged. Because the teacher just rolled with it, knew the lingo/culture, and focused on the *getting things learned* and even answered questions that I feel many in-class teachers would discipline. I'm just so impressed. I really, really hope to see more of this format in the future, from many educators.
Oh my god, the edits are ON FIRE tonight! Love the Stardew Valley music soooo much as well! I'd love for it to stick around for your educational stuff! It fits surprisingly well! :D

This is a fantastic educational presentation. Brody did amazing on the editing. If all information was this digestible, I think everyone would love learning.
Maya I hope you will make more educational videos on animal life. You are a fantastic presenter and are able to keep people engaged naturally, that is a gift that you may seriously want to consider using. Please more lectures!!
I love learning from someone significantly younger than me. Your passion for the subject is evident, and the format is great in that it takes away all of the unnecessary pomp and circumstance that comes from a classic classroom setting. This is what I wish college was like.
