My first lock was going down the Oswego canal into the Erie barge canal into the Hudson river from Canada to the US. I was motoring my 1947 Folkboat on the way to Florida from Toronto with 2 cats aboard (horrid crew). I was just as scared and inexperienced as you. You'll never forget these experiences.

Well done bud, lots of inspiration love to do this round the whole UK and through the French canals. I sail a westerly pageant 23, sailed her round from Totnes to Appledore. Must say the dolphins in our bay are amazing but they are cheeky sometimes they will say hello and stay the whole day others your see them and bugger off. Safe sailing ⛵️🌅
Very nice job tying up to the lock. I'm really enjoying watching your videos. I hope to do a circumnavigation of the UK at some point. I'm a big fan of the Orca Navigation system. Have been using it for about 3 years now, I have it fully integrated on my most current yacht.
We did our first lock this summer on the Villain river to leave Wave Dancer in Arzal, southern Brittany. As a solo sailor you must have been bricking it. We were nervous ( I sail with my husband), not much call for locks in Ireland 🤣
You remind me of the story 200 dollar millionaire. You have come along way mate, good to see northerner on UA-cam. In the lock of You just loop the cleats and tie off to the boat you can get away a bit easier maybe. Quality boat handling its great to see. Slow is smooth smooth us fast and all that. Keep up the good work shake the imposter syndrome you have earnt your place I would feel safe crewing your boat.
I remember seeing a time lapse from a cargo container, the video was amasing, especially durning the night, the expanse of sky and stars was awesome. Maybe an idea if you have a spare camera to just let one run at the bow continuously...

Be prepared for the bad days. It's not all sunshine and rainbows. We all know it's not, but sometimes we convince ourselves 😂. On passages, make sure you've got something to do, it's boring as hell. Have a good idea of your objectives and make sure it's a suitable buy, whilst balancing the fact that everything is a compromise 😂. It'll be tough at times but when that engine turns off and you're going along with the boat singing to you, there's no better feeling. When she's in her groove, it's amazing. But then something breaks 😂😂😂. Enjoy it!
The cinematography is getting pro! There are a couple companies making outdoor ukuleles, or if you're that bored you can take up knitting 😂 or try catching a fish!
With a following wind, try moving your job sheet car forward on the track. (30.33) It should tighten the leech, and help stabilise the sail. I realise you were under motor at this point, but it might be worth trying, and experimenting with the car position.
Would you consider putting chapters in the video to make it easy to skip through? 50+ minutes of bumbling is a long time. Good, but somewhat long videos. Keep 'em coming dude! x
Your doing really great. your have more fun when the wind starts to blow. If you get bored why not do a log, plotting your position and recording distance sailed every hour. good time to put your Chart work in to practice. you might need it at some point if your Ipad fails in the wind and rain thats heading your way.
Listen to your last 1/3 of your film going though the locks there is a drone that I find hard to listen to besides that the filming is quite good all the best
