Such a great trip and full marks for not dissing EVs because of your charging problems. You just kept on rolling with the punches with your usual great humour.
The best way to use the Rex is to switch it on at about 50% battery charge and use it holding that 50%. Then refuel with Gas. You then don't have to worry about issues with charging. real world range is 110-130 electric and an extra 70-80 miles on the Rex. Its just about energy management
I got all uptight thinking that we in the EV BMW were going to stall in Dallas traffic. I was greatly relieved when we made it to the exit with a little fuel left to get off the road. "Citin" Great road trip guys. Enjoyed! I might want one of those electric BMWs for my wife to drive around town, trips between Tulsa and Muskogee, and when we take Sunday afternoon drives. I will always have a small gas jug just in case we need headlights to get home in the dark. Yet another thing that needs to be kept on the "CHARGER" I would buy that BMW.
Glad to see you and Randy having some fun and getting out.. The gas engine just charges the battery, it does not drive the wheels. Btw, full charging degrades the battery.
The battery in the i3 can not be fully charged to 100% because of the buffer on the end and the battery can not go completely to zero in the REx version.. The battery will outlast the car..
Ah, Mike. I think you have found the truth in the old saw: “A friend in need.......is a PAIN indeed!” I’m glad you and Randy got 1 road trip in together. I hope everything is OK with your family. 🙏
We picked up a 2017 i3 REX last summer to "share" with our daughter (don't ask me how that's working out). You hit a lot of the high points -- with a nice sense of delight -- pretty quickly. Our experience in Southern California has been consistently positive, but that is in no small part because the charging network is robust. In moderate temperatures, when you can run in EcoPro+ mode, we routinely see 130+ miles of range, but driving at higher speeds (70+) or running the A/C full blast definitely dent your range. If you routinely drive more than 120 miles, this isn't the car for you -- but for around-town or shorter trips, especially if you have access to destination charging, the i3 is a great little car. Bonus: when I do get 'custody', I often go hiking at a spot where I can charge for free parked under a giant solar array. Yep, I literally am driving on sunshine. Good video -- thanks.
To complete the BMW electric esthetics fully you must wear your hair in a man bun, be wearing clogs, and do your knitting while it charges. Also, a kid seat or two in the back in matching materials as the car's interior goes well. Constant streams of texts from your wife who's a lawyer or doctor, reminding you to pick up the dog from the groomers can be expected. And you most likely had a vasectomy at the encouragement of the wife. How would I know this? My neighbor buddy is that guy that drives the i3

The i3 is perfectly capable of holding its own and the i3S has a stiffer and lower suspension, more horse power and fatter tires and handles better on the freeway.
ROAD TRIP lol
I'm confused. He said he was going alone, you had an emergency. Guess we'll see what happened. Hope its ok.
2 different trips. Mike didn't go on the long trip that Randy is on right now.
@@MrWoodyBalto Clearly this trip tipped off Mike that there was not enough range in the I3
Ha!!

DON'T PUT A GAS (petrol) CAN IN THE Frunk!
Hellooo Mike
Heelllooo Robert
This electric car crap seems like just a pain in the butt. Cool, but no way.
Its not junk by a long shot.. The i3 is a well built city car, its not meant for long distances. Also, there are 3 battery sizes.
@@mamadouaziza2536 never said junk, but its just my opinion. Not my forte. Ill stick to my premium gas hog benz lol.

I thought the car was just some cheapy junk too until I actually got into one and drove it..
The build quality is excellent and it handles like a true BMW..
The steering is 100% precise and the skinny tires are for efficiency and not for handling, although it handles well. The sports version of this car handles even better..
Not my idea choice for long distances on the freeway of anything over 50 miles, but its doable and its an excellent car in the city. Chargers such as EVgo, EA and ChargePoint are always better than off brand chargers.
And if you can pick up a used i3 or i3S in excellent condition for $15k and you understand its limits and respect those limits, you will have a good experience with the car.
If you live in an urban or almost urban area, I've bad news for you. This is the future of driving in city or near city zone and the majority of the rides to Work. Get used to it's ugliness, less!
stop by in san Diego and check out my w140 while you're in california dm me on ig @mysclass
1 mph.....and I thought...it's got to be 635
Yup!!
Randy is such a show off
Dang electric cars suck. That is what the green new deal does is make everyone drive electric cars or walk and ride bikes. Its really going to suck.
your an ignorant fuck thats never owned or driven one then. the future is EVs, weather you like it or not.
@@Pickles94288 Calling someone ignorant, and then using "your" when "you're" is the correct word to use in that sentence. Classic
Luckily I'm old and fat and will be dead before I'm forced to buy an EV
This is why Randy got a $50k car for $20k. He was never very good at doing his homework.

BM Why bother?
Ha!!
I3 is trash. It’s designed for daily commute not for distance.
why does that make it trash - not eveyone travels 100s of miles every day
