    Nyepi is the new year celebrations in Bali, in 2018 we filmed this vlog in Canggu showcasing some of the culture, sharing some info on the Hindu event, checking out the ogoh ogoh and learning more about the silent day.
    We got to see lots of the ogoh ogoh but didnt manage to find where the burning event was sadly! Definitely one of the coolest things in any culture or new year celebrations we've heard about. If you're heading to Indonesia or Bali be sure to check it out!

    The best video of nyepi is the one not taken. Very sad to watched some travel vloggers took a video about nyepi and how they disrespecting it by violating the rules. Even some of them was flying drone and broke that silence. And the worse is they intentionally violating the rules to see what happen if they get caught.
    Just enjoy the experience and respect the people. its only a day out of 365 days a year.
    *very good video, always like your positive attitude. I hope one day we will cross paths somewhere.

    The day of silence is very interesting. I think it is cool that they are able to really shut every thing down. I understand it is inconvenient but it is part of the culture.

    One thing that everyone should know is that Nyepi is a national holiday, so it's an off day throughout the rest of Indonesia as well. You might want to keep this is mind in case you need to deal with government offices, banks, etc.

    Wow Daneger! Amazing footage! This is what makes traveling so incredible when you see and experience different cultures. I think the idea of a day of silence is great! Wish that could happen out here and they should throw in a put your cellphone down day! Hahahaa Very cool experience!

      The day of silence was actually really cool, nothing worth filming, but great for the environment and great to get people chatting and actually living in the moment!

    Omg I just remembered I did a cycle tour a couple years ago in Bali and I went past a village that was paper macheing this huge demon like figure and I was like What the hell!!! Now I realise what it was!

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 років тому +1

      Yup, we realised the same a month later when we realised what the big paper and bamboo style monsters we saw being built were actually for.

      The day of silence was actually amazing. Well, for most its a day of whispers and conversation beyond technology, but still amazing. Quick pitstop in Sydney then Europe videos start :)

    Beautifully filmed! Your persistence paid off. This reminds me of the Durga Puja that is held every year in Kolkata - the statues in that event end up in the Hooghly River (which is of course, a branch of the Ganges). Plenty of video clips of this wonderful puja on UA-cam if you want to check it out.

    In your opinion, is Bali overcrowded? I've been four times to Bali, but that was 20 years ago.Then it was quiet and less touristy...but it seems to be overflowing with people. Love the video.... :)

    • @arivanuaranu
      @arivanuaranu 6 років тому +5

      Phnom Penh Travel Cambodia one thing that people seem to miss is the fact that Bali is a huge island. If you stay in the touristy south, then yes, it's crowded; but there are places in Bali where you would be hard pressed to see any foreigner

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 років тому +2

      Definitely lots of people, but like Ari also said, Bali is massive. You dont have to go to the main 3 we visited, head out to Lombok, the smaller Gilis or further away on the main land and theres more to see and explore.

      Ogoh Ogoh are anywhere and everywhere.. but I suggest you go to Ubud or Gianyar .. the people there seem more traditional than other areas. You could get your driver to ask around once you arrive.. the Ogo Ogohs are made in homes of the people, and could be in any back street.
