Technically, we don't need any movies, but we (for the most part) still go to the theater, rent, stream, and buy movies. I'm a movie lover, and going to the movies is probably one of my absolute favorite things to do, but I think people take for granted that there was a time that movies didn't exist.

it didn't matter that once movies didn't exist, because STORIES have always existed. Movies are just a way of letting us see them.
I think Timothée Chalamet is an excellent young actor and will be awesome in this role.

We may not NEED this movie, but because it’s so wholesome and festive and seems it’ll give you all the good feelings, i think that’s something we need, some more movies that give us that feeling definitely. Btw I do love the more dark serious stuff and I love the heavy action too BUT I wouldn’t mind a good break every now and then.
The director said that this is much darker than Paddington, but of course they couldn't show any darkness in this trailer, because it was attached to the front of the Barbie movie.
@@AbcDef-ww2gy oh interesting I haven’t read anything about that. Well shouldn’t be a surprise, if I know Roald Dahl books they do have a slight hint of darkness in them. Kinda similar with like the Brothers Grimm fairy tales.

I was on the fence about this too. I like Timothee Chalamet as an actor but I felt the same way at first.... do we need another Wonka movie? But then the trailer came out and it sold me. This looks like Harry Potter meets Enchanted. I'm in!

As a Wonka fan we do, in my opinion. This looks great.
This movie has ended up being the best movie I've seen in years. Most movies are dark and suspenseful, focusing on negative things, so on and so forth. But this was a really good, family feel good movie that is now in my top ten faves of all time probably

I don’t see a problem making a new film especially with an up and coming star like Timothée. It’s for a new generation and this actually looks good.
I'm intrigued. Maybe not as much as I am for the FNAF movie.

Obviously we needed to know the beginning of a character we don't know much about. Only that he is crazy, but why? How did he start his chocolate shop? How did you meet the oompa lompas? because he loves chocolate there is so much to tell, so I look forward to this movie. And more an inspiring story and that has that magic that we have lost these days

It's difficult for me to "hate" any movies. For example, I love the Star Wars Saga, and Marvel, I just think some are not AS good as others. I genuinely like the sequels of Star Wars, I just think of all the movies their not necessarily weak, but compared to some of the other films in the franchise their not as strong. That's just my opinion though, I know many people will disagree with this, but I only care about what I think about films.
I genuinely love many of these prequel and remakes. Their are only a few movies that I don't like at all. Almost none of them are related to big franchises or sagas.
I think this movie Will be like prequel or something, It's a story of how Willie wonka starts his first chocolate shop into huge @ss factory eh, what do you think ?

In all honesty I don’t think anyone really asked for this, and movies nowadays it’s just “same concept but new version” and those are generally just not good movies, for example, Disney movies, Mulan, Lion King, Mufasa (in the making), Little Mermaid, apparently another Aladdin in the making, Wakanda 2, Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodrick Rules (the new animated version) they try to make it modern and it’s just not working and not as good as the originals
1) Warner Bros is not responsible for the sins of Disney. 2) You listed direct remakes, and sequels. This is an origin story, a new story featuring a new character, a young Wonka, whom we haven't met before. 3) Many people, like me, did ask for this. We did watch the classic movie and wondered how Wonka came to be the way he is, how he started the factory, how the Oompa Loompas joined him, etc. We didn't just take everything for granted, because we're people who ask questions and want to learn more. 4) This is bound to be a very good movie, since it is from the writers of the Paddington movies, as this video said.

People are saying we don't need this movie but in all honesty, we don't really need any movies in this day in age anymore since there are far superior forms of media. I don't see anything wrong with this, just looks like a typical family/children's movie that will be decently entertaining. Don't have any high standards for it.

Okay, part of me is saying, "At least it's a new story" another part of me is saying "Lazy writing , using established lore and characters to sell their film" AND ANOTHER part of me is saying "Don't you dare cock up Gene Wilder's Wonka!!!!"
Although I'm liking what I see so far from Timothée Chalamet, part of me is still a little worried about this film .
I guess that's my current state of being the last few years , gone are the days I get excited when I see a trailer, now I get filled with dread that I'm going to not like it and will have to keep my head down and lie about not liking in to avoid being dog piled by people saying I must be a nasty person for not liking a film/show , even if I use constructive criticism and point out the one or two things I feel , in my opinion , they got right.
I really , really hope I'm wrong and this turns out to be a magical film, as I want to go back to feeling joy again when I go to the theaters instead of growing dread.

This film looks like it will have similar writing, but it may even be *more* respected, because the central character is human and not a teddy bear. This story is "much darker" than Paddington, according to the director, but note that they couldn't show any darkness in this trailer, because it was attached to the front of the Barbie movie. You will not be killed if you have criticisms. Enjoy.
@@AbcDef-ww2gy Oh the hate I had thrown at me for saying "Ghostbusters 2016 was not my cup of tea." People called me sexist , racist and a Republican Trump fan boy . I'm a Centralist Brit that lives in the UK . I had one nutter say that I had better make sure my smoke alarm works.
After the hate I got from that and not liking the modern Star Wars films, even though I pointed out the bits I loved as well as what I didn't like, I just started to keep my head down , for the sake of my mental health.
On the "Lazy writing" part I think I gave the wrong idea. What I meant was too many writers have an idea, but are either not good enough for the idea to get over on it's own merit, or the writer is not confident enough in themselves or said idea. And so they take an existing IP change everything about that IP so it fit their idea.
Let's say they make a new Firefly, has a massive in built fan base so they do not have to worry about build up a fan base. However the characters , atmosphere or plot is nothing like before, they just used it to tell their own story.
Sorry for the essay, but hopefully you now see how I guy that used to go to the cinema 2-3 a week to watch any old rubbish , now just sticks to what he knows and keeps his opinions to himself . For we have entered the age of if a movie/show is bad it is not the fault of cast and crew, but the fans who are either "Toxic" or "too stupid to understand". Which is why I have a lot of time for people like Jeff Fowler and Simon Kinberg, ones that listen to fans or when a movie flops puts their hand up and says "my fault" instead of blaming fans.
@@Believer1980 1) I can shed some light on this. First, you have to be aware of US politics, and know that some cultural issues are also political issues. Second, I disliked Ghostbusters 2016 purely because it had a weak script, just as many other films do. However, others thought the inherent problem was having four female comedians leading a film, and replacing four males to boot (even though the new team was operating decades after the first). If your problem was the same as mine, you should have clearly said so. However, if it was a criticism of "changing lore" (and based on your dreary "purist" comments on Wonka, it probably was), then you did deserve the condemnation -- if not the random arson threat.
2) Star Wars fans love to debate with passion -- but if you disliked the modern films, I believe you were in the majority, so there was no need for you to cower in fear. Argue, or don't argue. I myself wouldn't bother, in the case of Star Wars.
3) I did understand what you originally said, and countered it. You made a typical purist comment (about protecting "lore" and "IP") that I hear with almost any book-to-film adaptation. No, it is not necessary for the medium of film to have only original screenplays, and that is why we have a separate category at the Oscars for adapted screenplays. Ironically, this film will indeed be an original screenplay, featuring a brand-new story and a new character, a young Wonka, whom we have never encountered before. They did not have a separate idea and fit Wonka into it. This IS how they imagined young Wonka to be, and the estate of Roald Dahl agreed with them and endorsed them.

@@Believer1980 Huh, I just found out that Bridesmaids was directed by Paul Feig, who also directed Ghostbusters 2016. I'm not surprised he got swept away by the first film's huge success, and thought he could easily repeat it. It's a shame they didn't focus on crafting a sharp script for the second film! That is always the most important thing. Anyway, I found it pretty odd that you were complaining about a random, not-serious, implied arson threat, when Leslie Jones in her memoir today vividly recalls graphic death threats, serious enough to have intervention from the head of Twitter. Nope, we don't need this at all. Sorry to be a Negative Nancy, but Hollywood would rather churn out the same things from 60 years ago than new ideas. I like Chalemet, Colman and the director, but this didn't give me serotonin. Also, CGI Hugh Grant is now my sleep paralysis demon. I'll eat my words if it ends up being good, but eh.

We get 2-3 Marvel movies every year. Those are movies we don't need. A new Wonka adapatation 18 years after the last isn't gonna hurt anyone, and it's offering something different from the last 2 adaptations.
