You are welcome! Yeah I agree - this is super fun to make music with. I did grab a LoFi-6 also and it is functionally identical!! Just sounds more retro like a phone line or something. Thanks for checking out the video - if you haven’t already sub for more content! :) thank you I really appreciate it!!
Hey there @dmanh5144! That’s one way to do it you could definitely use a midi to USB cable if you don’t have one it’s also pretty reasonable way to go because they only cost about $19. I think last time I checked you can probably find one on eBay for $10 or less. Way to go about connecting the simple trek to a PC would be if you have an audio interface that has a midi port on the back which is one way that I connect my hardware gear to my PC. I have a focus right audio interface that has a single 16 channel port on the back. I also have a mark of the unicorn midi 128 adapter which has eight midi ports in, and eight midi ports out, which is kind of essential if you’ve got a lot of gear that does not have USB ports built-in. A lot of devices today do have USB ports built right on them so you don’t need necessarily to have that type of converter in many cases… However, Sonicware kind of went old-school with a lot of their devices. If I would offer them one suggestion, that would change the way a lot of the devices interact with other hardware… It would be please add USB connectivity to your devices and keep the regular MIDI ports as well. DEVICES THAT INCLUDE BOTH OF THESE GENERALLY OFFER A LOT MORE FLEXIBILITY IN MY OPINION. ALSO, THE OTHER SIDE WOULD BE THAT IF THEY HAD THE USB CONNECTOR TO THAT DEVICE, IT WOULD BE A LOT QUICKER TO UPLOAD PATCHES TO IT. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. AND DON’T FORGET TO SUBSCRIBE. HAVE AN AWESOME DAY.
A few experiences from a Lofi-12 newbie, I had the same issue. RCV here means "receive" - i.e. receive the system firmware file. If RCV does not appear, we have a fundamental communication problem between the PC and Lofi-12. Some thoughts (PC related): 1. Check whether your (USB to) MIDI cable is correctly recognized by the operating system (drivers or device manager). Check the MIDI IN/OUT cable designation before plugging it into the Lofi-12. For example the Roland UM-One MIDI IN connector should be plugged in to Lofi-12 MIDI IN. Your issue: If you twist MIDI IN with MIDI OUT, the " RCV" display will never appear. The Sonicware update instructions are a little confusing here. 2. Verify in MIDI-OX your MIDI cabel is in "MIDI Outputs" selected - see: 3:20 3. In my configuration I had to set the following in MIDI-OX: 5:00 View - SysEx… -> Sysex - Configure… - Delay After F7: 120ms (60ms) Otherwise I got a “No Buffers available Error” in the MIDI-OX program. Increasing these parameters can achieve the goal, but can also extend the duration of the transfer, for me it was 16 minutes. Patience is the order of the day here :) I hope this helps a little. Ok I did some research and am sending a suggestion to Sonicware on this… There does not appear to be a way to check the Firmware version if it’s higher than 1.x. When you power on the Lofi-12, briefly hold down the "Shift" button while turning it on. If "UPDT" appears on the screen, it indicates you're on firmware version 1.x. If it doesn't show "UPDT", you likely have a version 2.x or higher. I am in contact with Sonicware pretty frequently and will mention this as a needed feature for all livens. O e thing to consider - I’m pretty sure with the livens when you update - the whole OS is rewritten… I don’t believe it’s “patched” that said you should be fine loading the latest OS 2.1.65 (called 2.1)- if you’re unsure it will not hurt to load 2.0.55 then 2.1.65. One more thing - the new sounds that come with those upgrades are a separate upgrade - so you know. Just incase you are thinking “hey I upgraded where are my sounds??”. You can download updates here sonicware.jp/pages/downloads . I hope that helps! Hit me up if you have any questions- and please do sub if you have not, I’d appreciate it! See you later!
@tristangarel-funk3236 no worries! Always happy to help - I wish there were a better answer. If that changes I will update this info or put out a video.
I made a mistake and recorded over Pattern Preset Bank 1 #5 SEA ASMR-ish 'By the sea' sample track 1 on the Lofi-6. Is there anyway I can get the default sample back?
Hey there unsungC - no worries, there is!! Go to www.sonicware.co.jp/DL/LIVEN_Lofi-12/Lofi-12_preset_samples.zip I believe downloading the samples and installing them will resolve your issue. Absolutely be sure you backup first. If for some reason this does not restore your pattern let me know. I’ll back up which ever patterns you need and send them to you.
@@Cap10NRGMusic 🤗🤗🤗🙏🙏🙏 I can’t find any information or instructions on to how restore that pattern. Thank you for letting me know that it’s possible. Also I got the cables you recommended this was my first time using the device. I line out the audio from the daw to see if it work and If I could inout it back into the daw. That worked also, but that’s when I realized that I recorded over the default pattern. Thought it would go back to default if I turned it off. Tried holding power button and pattern 3 like the manual stated still no luck.
Do you recall if you pressed ‘SAVE’ and then ‘YES’ (or maybe it’s ‘OK’) if you do that it will write o er the memory slot. They are unfortunately volatile. But no worries - I’ll help you get back to factory

Hey there it means your battery is low probably too low to perform the update because it does take a while to do updates on that device so it’s probably trying to save you the accidentally breaking the unit because the battery doesn’t have enough power. Do you have an AC adapter? Try it with that. www.sonicware.co.jp/DL/LIVEN_COMMON/Firmware_update_guide_en.pdf Page 5 Also please sub! Thsnks
Sure - do you have an audio interface with a midi port already? If you already have a midi interface you should get this amzn.to/3soYrlX this is 2 3-foot midi cables. If you don’t have a midi jack on your ps/audio interface - you can grab one of these to get going amzn.to/45CH1Re if it’s for a Mac you will also need one of these amzn.to/45Bk2Gh . Enjoy and don’t forget to sub. :)
thanks

Don't you need some kind of MIDI to USB device to connect 5-pin MIDI into and USB-B out to the PC in with USB-A?

I don't get the RCV display on the Lofi12. What does RCV mean?
Can you tell me where you’re seeing that? I think what you’re talking about is the receive channel… Or possibly enabling or disabling midi receive
