    I absolutely love the call of the stag. The first time I heard it, I swore we were about to be hit by a bear. But they have a call that matches their personalities. You guys get any scores on these animals? Great video. What is your success percentage?

    I have question. So in germany the stags have to hit the age of 10 or older. the best age to shoot them is with 12 or 13 years. My question is are you doing that too? Because a few of the stags in the video look much younger then 10 years. I also dont know what good or bad stags in new zealnd look like but what i wanna say is that was a very nice video and perfect shots.

    • @BJHoldsworth
      @BJHoldsworth  2 роки тому

      most stags are probably 6 years or older, would prefer to shoot older stags every time regardless of score but it falls very much into what the hunter wants, Fred took an older stag and did not have a choice!

      Caleb Bagwell come to Germany or Austria and see yourself. Was walking my dog the other day and a stag crossed our path 10 meters away. We’re watching each other for 30 seconds until he slowly moved on. Been followed by a stag once during rutting season. That bull was so huge it scared the shit out of me. Disappeared like a ghost

    • @malcolm47
      @malcolm47 8 років тому +1

      It depends on where you shoot a deer

    • @bashfulbrother
      @bashfulbrother 8 років тому

      +ExtreemD4t4 There is an area right at the front of the chest to the back of the foreleg that contains the heart and lungs. A shot in one of these will drop the stag dead in 9 out of 10 times. There are times when the stag will walk a short ways as in the video, but normally they are taken in a very humane and fast way.

    At the risk of sounding very ignorant, I’ve never understood the appeal in sniping out an animal @200+ yards. Also why not take a double lung instead of shattered bone and wasted meat on the shoulders? Here in Canada the average shot I take is about 50 yds with the old iron sight 30-30. New Zealand looks like a beautiful place, as are those stags and I’d love to hunt there but there must be a more old school way of hunting up closer perhaps down in the timber? I think I’d much prefer that experience even if the stag was less of a “trophy”.

    • @BJHoldsworth
      @BJHoldsworth  3 роки тому

      We have shot a few stags at close quarters, its very exciting . Shooting an animal to drop it and kill it quickly is very desirable over a lung shot which often means the stag runs and often falls somewhere out of sight. Book a hunt with me and we will go hunt one close.
