    If you get overwhelmed by size of books when you're starting out, temporarily switch to ebooks. Seeing a % of progress is less overwhelming to me than not being able to physically see tons of progress in a physical book.

    I read significantly more when I’m reading more than one book at a time. It also makes it easier to put down a book I’m not enjoying when I have another option I know I’m liking.

    Scheduling the time to read and audiobooks changed the game for me. I literally doubled my monthly number of read books, which is good not for the number but because now I have access to more stories I would never have the time to get to before! Doing dishes were so boring but now I’m actually looking forward to that moment just because I’ll encounter some of the characters I’m reading about. And for that I’m thankful

  • @FanGirl171

    Audiobooks have been the number 1 way I have been able to read so much more recently. I used to be able to read about 1-2 books a month when sitting down and reading, but with audiobooks so far this year I’ve already read 12 books (in 2 months!!!!) 😱 I’m absolutely amazed. I listen to them while cooking, cleaning, driving, getting ready for the day, brushing my teeth, after I get out the shower 🤣 literally any mindless task and there are so many once you look for them!! Totally recommend audible to anyone wanting audiobooks at really affordable prices!!

    I love these tips!! I just got back into reading. As a child I was a huge bookworm. I have read maybe six books so far this year and it’s become a part of my day. Whether I read fifteen minutes or an hour I have made it part of my day.

    My biggest reading tip is probably to figure out what genre/type of book gets you out of a reading slump. For me, though I usually read fantasy, it’s a quick, fluffy romance. Whenever you’re feeling slumpy, pick up that genre and it helps prime the pump, if you will

    All good points! It’s hard for me to dnf a book I’m not enjoying, but I’m working on learning to accept it & move on. One hint I like to do to help me read more is reading sprints!! Every time someone I’m subscribed to posts one, I add it to a playlist to read along with when I have time to read. 🤗

    make read books part of your routine, like a habit is so good, cause everyday you want to read and when you don't read you miss it, a thing that help a lot to read more is read 2 or more books at the same time

    Additional tips: keep books in the bathroom! I will often start books that intimidate me there. A few pages at a time seems doable until I become invested. Novellas and comics can also be a great way to get in some quick reads that can pack a punch. Thanks for the video. ~

    Audiobooks are such a great way to read more ! As you said, you can read easily while cooking, doing your chores or even when playing games (I love to listen to an audiobook while playing animal crossing). It's also such a great experience, if you haven't tried audiobooks yet : just go for it !!

    Read during mindless tasks: I excel at that one. It's been a long time since I had breakfast without reading at the same time. It's actually really nice, it makes you eat more slowly and that' great. Commute to college was filled with reading too and my tbr thanks me for that 😉

  • @brechtgeers
    @brechtgeers 3 роки тому +30

    I've got a better tip: Don't be bothered by how much you read. I've long thought, since I love reading books, that the more I would read, the happier I would be. It turned out I was wrong. Life is not a race, y'all. Just take a deep breath and enjoy the blue sky once in a while, you know?

    • @TiliaHaggstrom
      @TiliaHaggstrom 3 роки тому +10

      Obviously it doesn't matter how many books you manage to read every year but finding ways to fit the things you love into your routine is a good way to make sure you give yourself time to do them.

    • @mexDpeace
      @mexDpeace 3 роки тому +5

      I think the point is kinda to ask yourself WHY you want to read more. If it is bc you really liked reading as a child but feel like you don't find the time now, do it! If you feel like you are a "better person" if you read more or idk have to read 100 books a year to be a worthy and smart person then maybe reading more isn't the solution.
      I'm just saying that because I've been at the latter point and trying to read more back then only stressed me out because I wasn't doing it for.. particularly healthy reasons.

    A habit that helps me read more books is to have different boks for different hours during the day. For example, when I wake up during my breakfast I pick a book about self help or fairytales- something that motivates me and brings me posititity. On my way to work ect I have a fiction book (and I always have a book with me wherever I go).
    Oh, and when I want to finish a book until a spesific day, I count the unread pages of the book, and with a calculator I find how many pages I must read per day, so I can reach the goal (a reading tracker on my bullet journal helps me with this).

    I love audiobooks for non-fiction and I use them while doing house tasks or getting ready for work. I can't go to sleep before I read at least a chapter (it's always more). I've been doing it since I was 14. I truly believe in scheduling some readings, although I don't really need it because I read everywhere: commute, task, always have my e-reader in my bag, and sometimes physical books. Great tips. I still have a problem with DNFing I finishing a book even if it's just to rant about it. Hahaha. Loved the bangs!

  • @TheCarol8199

    Personally, my main tip is always to just make reading a priority! If you want to read more, make it a priority over just mindlessly scrolling through social media, or maybe don't start a new tv show right now, choose maybe a book series and after that you can start a new show - alternate! It's entertainment either way! The DNF tip is SO true! Also when reading a series don't be pressured to read it all in one go, you can take a breather in-between installments!

    Oooo I personally love sitting down and reading, but not when my body is restless or when I’ve been stationed at my desk for a whole day. So I take walks, and the length of the walk is often decided by how good the book is. I can walk for miles, and it is soooo refreshing for both mind and body! 🥰

    My Tip: Don't read the books you think you should read
    Don't just a read a book because everyone else has read it, or because someone recommended it, or it's really popular, or it feels like "required reading"
    Those are okay reasons to read a book, but I think rarely can they be the sole reason ESPECIALLY if you're in a reading slump or trying to get back into to reading after a long time.
    INSTEAD: read the book that sounds fun to you! re-read your favourites, read something short and fun, read a book that really interests you, read a book from an author you know you like! Reading isn't enjoyable if you turn it into a chore of "oh have to read this book because of external reasons", instead I think it should be a book that you have the internal motivation to read

    What works for me best is to only buy books that truly intrigue me, plot-wise, depending on my current tastes and mood. I don’t go out of my comfort zone most of the time. That way I read much more books and spend time meaningfully instead of dreading over books I will never end up liking. As a kid and a teenager I pretty much read everything (in English- I can’t even consider it my second language since I devoured hundreds of books in English instead of my native tongue), but as an adult with responsibilities I cannot afford to waste money and time.

    I decided this year my New Years main goal would be to read more but not a set number of books as that scares me. But I love reading but never have read as much as I have recently. I’m in love with Jane Austen fan fiction so have read many of those but also mixing in other authors like Agatha Christie, starting the bridgerton series of books and actually reading the Jane Austen books I have read. I flip between paperback books and kindle and find I reader my kindle a lot faster but then I can often run out of battery so I’m glad I have physical books to read but I need different glasses and often hurts my eyes reading for too long so I change between the too. I also love reading and collecting Barbara erskine books my faves being house of echoes and whispers in the sand. I use you tube for audio books and have found some of my favourite teen point horror books on there to listen to which are acted out x

    I love audiobooks! Already read 21 books since January 1st and only 6 of them are ebook/paperback, the rest is audio or a combination of audio with ebook or paperback, if I have a physical or ebook I sometimes like to listen and read along. But audio is my main love these days. If I have only the paperback or ebook, I will see if I can find the book in audio to listen to it. It’s just that I have a very short attention span with physical or ebook reading, 10 minutes and I have to put it down. With audio I can listen longer and also while doing something else. Plus I just find that an audiobook read by a great narrator only gets better. A great narrator adds to a book.

    When reading books I'm loving, I set myself small goals like reading 100 pages of that book in 7 days and it works. Also reading more than one book can help as well but sometimes I tend to prioritise one book over the others xD.

    I suggest setting daily page count goals for every book you read. For me, I find reading 100 pages a day before going on about my day helps me make sure I read everyday and still have time to fit gaming in.
