So happy to hear the voices not drowning in playback. It has happened only once before this comeback. But if you look at how many activities they have per week, it actually makes sense for Mnet to baby them so much. If they wouldn't use vocal support they would have lost their voices long ago. I'm not sure of the reason, maybe Mnet didn't trust Somi to pull off the high note or maybe Somi is sick and they played it safe, but you can clearly hear her switch from singing to pre-recording at 2:23. Despite that, the talent level of this group is undeniable.

They have complete control over how much playback would be used during the performance. SBS is just a broadcasting station. The most say they have in a performance is to ban lip-sync. Since Sketchbook is a show that celebrates music, SBS can demand the artists to sing live, but they can not keep the group from using vocal support on high notes or places where the members run out of breath due to the choreo. That decision is still left to the company that manages the group.

If you want a proper explanation on why I strongly insist that that note was a recording and not live and why MR removed video proves nothing, you should refer to mjrkpop channel. He has a detailed video explaining this subject. But as a person who graduated music school, i trust my ears. The sound system at sketchbook is too good to mask the transition from live to recorded sound. Pay close attention at 2:23, it is pretty obvious. There is a jump in both pitch and vocal volume. Somi sings the 'ah' sound live but as it goes into 'na' sound, it is already a pre-recorded vocal.

Glad to hear actual loud vocals! Their company uses such a strong backing track in most performances, so it's hard to hear them well... So this performance was really enjoyable because it was easy to hear their live vocals! Although 3 girls sing the middle lines during the chorus, so I think it could have been nice if any of the remaining members would have given the 'whatta man whatta man' lines a shot, lol. Yeah in the full IOI, the main vocals aren't even here but despite that, the unit has one of the steadiest vocals live.
Their lead vocals can easily be a Main Vocal in some other girl groups, they're all really stable, even their sub-vocals can be leads in other groups
