Late in the night she would roll over, reach over to touch me and whisper ''I love you baby''. We were together for thirty years. These past ten she's been residing in heaven. She fought cancer for eight months like a Champion. One day while talking in the kitchen I was washing some dishes, she was at the end of the counter. She stopped in mid sentence, clinched the counter while slightly bending over from the pain. I froze! Take my strength baby I said! In the next second she composed herself, stood straight up while still holding onto the counter, looked at me, looked into me and said "No! I'm not going to take your strength baby.............. Your going to need it!" Well, she was right but then she always right for I have drawn from my inner strength these past many lonely years to keep going and yes the tears are running down my cheeks as I write. Love your loves people. Show it, say it, feel it. Peace......

Recently, I've started compiling my "buck list". A road trip to Washington, Idaho, Minnesota, Texas, Loiusiana, New Mexico, Airizona to see friends that knew her and I BUT the big trip wasto go to see the British Isles! She had some "black Irish" in her. Dark hair and a light complextion. Just to stop and gaze at all the beautiful sites and places God created. Taking just afew extra minutes for her too.
We can only imagine the pain you've gone through and the loneliness.. take solace that strangers can try to understand . We will all go through this one day ,, whether our loved ones or ourselves. The song brings it home.
In 1977, Dec. 31st, I met the love of my life. For 40 years we were together until they passed away in 2017. I was 32 when we met. They were 26. I'm now 76. I said "I love you" every day of those 40 years. I couldn't imagine my life without them. They were a part of me for 40 years. I miss them so. P.S. I still say, "I love you" !

This was the first song I heard on the radio after I heard my mother had just died. She was on vacation and had a sudden and fatal heart attack. I cried all the way to my sisters house... I remember that ride everytime i hear this song. But it's still such a great song.
Last year. My mother in her last days was at my sister house in a bedroom my sister had made up for her to be comfortable. I was never "huggy" with my mother throughout our lives. Nothing bad, Just the way it was. As I visited there that day and was about to leave, I got up ready to go, she exclaimed very loudly "Bobby Please Hung Me Before You Leave". As I did she told me she loved me very much.. She knew... She died the next morning. My Dear God. Why did I not hold my Mom more often. I am so truly sorry....

I come from the same part of the world as Van and am roughly the same age. I still remember the early 1970s when he knocked the Rolling Stones from their number one spot in the charts. He was then the singer with a group called Them. I'm therefore probably biased but I think he is the greatest ever. So much passion in his singing. He music has been featured in so many top Hollywood movies.
I'm from that era too, he's a legend.... saw him back in the day, he and Jim Morrison were convinced that they cousins and went out on a two week bender (drunk) for two weeks.......the good days !!
Thank you. I too used to do a bender but as with Van the years move on and I think I could only cope with a two hour bender now. I'm also from Northern Ireland which is Van's homeland. His mother died a few weeks ago. She was quite an age and Van was dedicated to her. At the funeral service, which was obviously private, he sang three songs in her honour.

Well, she was right but then she always right for I have drawn from my inner strength these past many lonely years to keep going and yes the tears are running down my cheeks as I write. Recently, I've started compiling my "buck list". A road trip to Washington, Idaho, Minnesota, Texas, Loiusiana, New Mexico, Airizona to see friends that knew her and I BUT the big trip wasto go to see the British Isles! She had some "black Irish" in her. Dark hair and a light complextion. Just to stop and gaze at all the beautiful sites and places God created. Taking just afew extra minutes for her too.

I come from the same part of the world as Van and am roughly the same age. I still remember the early 1970s when he knocked the Rolling Stones from their number one spot in the charts. He was then the singer with a group called Them.
I'm therefore probably biased but I think he is the greatest ever.

I'm also from Northern Ireland which is Van's homeland. His mother died a few weeks ago. She was quite an age and Van was dedicated to her. At the funeral service, which was obviously private, he sang three songs in her honour.
