- Finally decided to grabb a truing stand and at only $80 it seemed like a nor brainer to grab this on and see how it went!!!

I have a different truing stand that I paid about the same for. I’ve built 2 wheel sets with it and trued a couple others they are definitely worth the money. You can also buy any adapter that that lets the through axle hubs fit in the slots better
It is definitely nice to have! Especially at the price! 😊
I own one, i bought axle to qr adaptors on Ali. I also stretched it to handle 142mm hubs.

Thanks for this, if you do another test of a stand like this it would be great if you did it on a solid table. That stand you have it on was swaying about so much it's just not possible to see how stiff the product is.

I use a 8 or 10mm Allen key as a thru the axle on the truing stand

with the park tool stands you apparently need like the 500$ one to do fat tires, or at least thats how it was a few years back when I got mine 🤣 i can just barely squeeze my 190mm spaced rear fat tire on my Park Tool stand, only possible if I take the tire and cassette off. I fix easy lateral deviations from loose spokes w/ zip ties. Radial deviations are a bit harder to see with zip ties, and the tire on the rim. If the wheel needs to be dished, good luck doing that with zip ties and the tire on. In general- If you have to adjust a lot of spokes, it will be easier in a truing stand. Main thing i found is, always use the right spoke wrench!! Or it strips the nipple. And don't tighten the spokes too tight, breaking spokes and nipples is a PITA to fix
This will definitely be a learning process but I always like a good challenge! HAHAHAHA
@@chickensendies park tool vids break it down really well, but its 3 types of deviations- lateral, radial, dish. that you check in that order. And in general spokes are too tight if you squeeze the spoke group and its getting to the point where the spoke is stiff and wont flex much. Thats the main thing i ran into was tightening spokes too much!
Tire needs to come off if you want to true the wheel with any precision.

Thank you and Yes I am. Works great for me and the price is very nice! I am unsure though over a motor wheel. It'll fit a 135mm hub but not much more beyond that width wise.

Grin Tech is ebike specific but they have a good video for building hub motor wheels for ebikes. Their website also has a spoke length calculator tool that doesnt necessarily have to be for ebikes!

Its surprising just how true you can get a wheel still in the frame with the bike in a bike stand.
I actually have some buddies who do this and use zip ties to check it HAHAHAHA

This is, true.
Fat bike hub with 12mm axle will likely not fit without an extention. Maybe the park tool extentions/adapters will fit. They are attached with quick release clamps on the v shaped area. But that's the case with my Parktool stand too, but their new ones support it natively. I don't have a fatbike yet. But want to get one. But one that fits me and is with geo i want does not exist. Pole Taiga was up there but no longe made. Probably should contact Nicolai for a custom frame. Closes reasonable geo is Rocky mountain's ne wfa bike, but not on Norwegian market yet. Might get that. First🤔 will see. But snow can get tricky here so regular bike struggles some days.
But then I need an extention for my truing stand. It bolts on, so no problem. The benefit of the Parktool is you just turn a knob on legs spread. But it supports boost. But original axle adapter was heavy, and I damaged it. So got Abbey tools adapter. Instead of a cone on each side it uses the knobs as adapters, it's stepped so has each axle diameter built in. 👌 Super light too. Quality, mine was a bit banged up from factory but I needed it so did not bother returning it just cus of that. But I see they revealed their own truing stand this year at an event. Even with optional metering connected to a laptop pc. So can connect it to a pc. Interesting. Probably won't be cheap.
I also true discs, so I have brake aligning tool too. Nice this one comes with that. Not seen that before. With Parktool every add on is an literal add on. Sold seperately. Even the base. As its intended to be bolted to the desk.
I've been wanting to learn how to true a wheel and repair/replace spokes. 😮💨 I feel like I would mess up the wheel even more. 😭😂
Messing up a wheel is honestly what worries me most..... But, Here we are 😅😅😅
It says right in the instructions that this is not compatible with thru axles. Which makes sense because it won't take the axle and without out whats to stop the wheel from travelling laterally?
Granted I’ve got a few sets of Enve wheels and other end carbon and I can’t tell you the last time I needed a wheel trued in the last decade and at $20 a pop it’s been less than $80 in that time span. Plus it’s always a little bonus to support LBS’s.
Definitely hard to argue there and I always recommend supporting the LBS! I just like learning and developing new skills so here we are 😃

can it used on city bikes? that it supports 20 inch wheels, suggests that it supports foldable bikes which are similar to city bikes
I'd imagine you would be good there! As long as your width is not greater than 135ish mm you should be good!

If that's the case there were only 3 spokes lose so Truing it was fairly easy since the rest of the wheel was fine. Of course for an entire adjustment the tire would come off 😁

Heres a hard lesson i just learned. Equal spoke tension does not equal a true wheel.

@@chickensendies Kinda simple, had to rewrap my tire because of bad tape. Thought I could get a good baseline by putting every spoke at equal tension at the nipple. Went out riding and had shaking going downhill and absurd rubbing when I put my weight into the pedals.
Rubbed off the paint on my chainstay too.
