I’m bipolar 2, this info gives me hope. I hope my doctor will approve one of these medications, in conjunction with keto therapy. This gives me so much hope
I am very excited for the Metabolic Psychiatry event Nov 3 and 4. It is very hopeful that these topics are being discussed by providers as well as patients. Cheers. Michael
@@dyaneharwood2023 oh - really excited you are speaking on vegan keto. There are those too passionate on carnivore and vegan sides that it makes it seem like it's a carnivore thing. In my search for healthy eating over the years I have done it all. I was vegan/veggie for 12 years and enjoyed it.
Glp-1 RA stimulate TRPV1 that causes many secondary disease processes. One example is overstimulation of insulin causing hyperinsulinemia . It is important to monitor this drug with oral glucose tolerance test and insulin and c-peptide curves to actually see what is happening that is lowering blood glucose. Hyperinsulinemia leads to even more TRPV1 and reactive oxygen species too. There is so much to know about TRP receptors and how they relate to many diseases.
It would be helpful to mention why patients experience weight gain? Are they more hungry? Are the moving more or less? Are they eating more frequently? Are they eating more? Are they eating different foods?
it's likely all of the above. What is most notable is that ketogenic therapy can: reduce hunger, increase satiety, increase energy available for things like exercise, reduce carbohydrate cravings.
Yes! It is likely a combination of factors involving hunger and cravings. We address those in our intro video on this topic ua-cam.com/video/M4XQHcidZXE/v-deo.html
Even though I eat much less now than years ago. I fast everyday & eat one meal in the evening. I do 48 hours and more fast per week. Diet & exercise does nothing to make me lose weight. Matter of fact, I've gained so much weight, I'm now class one obese!
My son gained 40 lbs in 2 months after getting on anti-psychotics! He has been able to lose some weight by walking ALOT! But the weight loss has slowed and he is very self-conscious about his appearance so this doesn't help.
I've been take semaglutide for a month. Calories are super low. Workout 3 days a week. Prioritize protein. Lost almost no weight!! Antipsychotics suck.
my son put on loads of wieghtthrough medications it affected his heart now they tell me he could have a stroke any time in the UK we havent got ketogenic diet doctor and my son is left like this it has also affected his health in other ways too and they just seems to be leaving him to have a stroke doing nothing
We are so sorry to hear that. You may want to check diagnosisdiet.com/directory to see if you can find a therapist, health coach, or dietician who may be able to help work as a team with your psychiatrist. Erin Bellamy and Ally Houston come to mind as experienced coaches in the UK
100+ Pounds over 6 years Victoza and Metformin did not work for me, yes its very frustrating also my active lifestyle from construction you would think I would lose the weight but still no luck.

Thanks, Michael. We hope you are able to attend!
I sure am. I am giving a patient perspective on Saturday with 2 others.
Yes, I’m honored be joining Michael as a lived experience speaker to discuss vegan keto for bipolar one/postpartum bipolar.
@@dyaneharwood2023 this is ultimately so important for the providers to hear these stories.

We were just talking about this!!! It’s definitely an uphill battle.

Great perspective
I love your urge to get this topic forward, thinking about what could be tweaked really strategically.

I can say from personal experience that I ate like a pig. I just ate constantly all day everyday.
