- Early autumn has arrived in the Lake District as I'm back out for some more landscape photography, shooting waterfalls at Stanley Ghyll in Eskdale. Also I show you a couple of tips on how to edit greens more accurately in Adobe Lightroom and prevent them looking muddy and washed out.

Never commented before but a binge-watcher lately. Just wanted to say thanks for the lovely view of the Lake District. So looking forward to our own (vacation+photo) trip coming up this spring (fingers crossed with covid) - first time, but your VLOGS are really a wonderful way to pre-enjoy the wonderful area!

Finally. At least one photographer who knows the end result of a shutter speed that’s dragged out too long when the flow is fast and how it ends up looking like mush. Even 1/10 can be just as dramatic. Love this vlog 👍🏼

Your detail in analysis of a photo in composition and editing is refreshing, I'm you tubed to death the last couple of years and haven't learned anything new recently but always pick up something new from yourself, don't go changing and following these other trends because if i see another (7 things to drive ya nuts video) I'll do one meself..🤨
PS:the 24-200z sold out most places at present (grey's that is😉)

Nice on Stuart, loved the drone image and your edit on the main image was stunning. Always good to see how others approach their processing as there's always a nugget of learning to be had. I love the DXO collection and even use the Color Efex on my black and white images on occasions
Cheers Jim yeah i find the DXO stuff handy at times, I'll often delve into if an image needs a bit more punch though I don't use it so much on more subtle stuff

Glad it's not just me that thought everywhere is still very green. Warm weather and rain seems to put a growing spurt on. Maybe if this cold front does come in towards end of month things change but definitely looks like a late autumn. Great video again.
Thanks Ian yeah strange year for weather, been extremely dry in the lakes this year so we’ve been quite thankful for some lately, first decent rain we’ve had in 6 months

Really useful Stuart. Autumn is yet to make an appearance down south as well. The silver birch are starting to turn but it's all quite unseasonal. It is what it is, there is always something to work with. Have a good week.

Nice to see you back Stuart. Like the tip in the tone curve with the whites. As an aside can you move your microphone in the studio because I found your swallowing noise a little irritating. The trees are still too luminous green at the moment. We are starting to see some colour change here in Devon, but it is slow. Take care & stay safe.

Nice one Stuart I noticed on the back of your camera you are shooting an aperture priority is it something you often do. I shoot in manual mode but is there are times when I could go into aperture priority. anyway I’m travelling up from Southampton today to go to the Isle of sky, glen coe and the isle of harris on a three week road trip. i was pleased that you mention autumn was late as on the way back home on the 23th I’ve got five days booked at Braithwaite, So autumn being late hopefully will suit me shooting at Derwentwater glad to see you’ve posted again and the post processing part help me thank you Rob
Cheers Rob yeah to be honest I shoot in aperture probably 90% of the time though there’s obviously specific times when manual is needed - really the only thing that’s important in either case is the histogram when shooting off a tripod. Main thing when I’m teaching people is to have a full understanding of manual and how to use it then after that it’s a case of making your own choices.
Yeah your dates will be fine I’d say it’s about a week to 10 days behind normal currently though that can be accelerated if the temp drops significantly

Hi Stuart, i've been a Nikon shooter since the 800e (when I changed from a lifetime with Canon). I also shoot with a Z7 and find it without doubt the best camera for landscape work I have used (I still have a D850). The only gripe I have is that you cannot clear the live view completely; the info at the bottom of the screen annoys me. I am precious with every pixel and am quite pedantic when composing images - it just gets in my way. It would be so easy to update the firmware and get this option.
Peter this one drives me insane, for the life of me why they don't remove this I'll never know as it's absolutely essential for landscape work. What made me laugh was I was leading a workshop group earlier in the year and one of the participants had the D3500 (think this is the newest version of the cheapest model DSLR) and THAT one had the clear screen preview, ridiculous! I'd like it if Nikon also did non-destructive crop previews like Canon do rather than the file being physically cropped at capture, again not exactly difficult in a firmware update.
nice job...I've struggled with these in the past. Some of my previous vlogs show horrible color editing and it was mainly because of an uncalibrated monitor issue but, good job on these edits.

Great video marra. You have such a great personality on your videos, really nice manner. I was big on photos around 2009/10 for a few years, I got burnt out a bit on it but when your video was suggested I thought I'd watch it. It was all Flickr when I started, not even sure that's still going lol. Peter Henry and Dave Wilson were a big inspirations for me, not sure if you know them fellas? Great work anyway and good luck with it all.

Nice spot. Last time I was there I was having a week at Wasdale which turned out to be extremely wet so not ideal. Still all that rain equals lush greens! Must go back some time. Nice story about the tree. A question...? err, the framing video? 😂😂 Cheers.

Well that was a definite eye opener. Thought both images looked great and the tips on how to edit greens has got me thinking about a few of my images from the archives that I wasn't quite happy with. Not to mention that I'm heading down to the New Forest in a few weeks time in the hope of capturing the Autumn colours, so I may well be revisiting this video when I sit down to process them.

That has to be the gold standard in processing. Confirmed a few things I have thought with the wb and blue calibration channel, thank you 😊 I use the same nik filters but also the tonal contrast on things like snow to get detail in whites. Its a bit savage but throttled back gives great results 👌 One for the q&a is about sharpening. Do you turn off in lightroom before applying in ps ? Then add more for printing? Cheers Simon and thanks for the question - yeah getting accurate greens is tricky, the number one mistake I see made is the WB being set too warm on auto then people have a hard time removing the reddish tint afterwards, giving the greens a muddy appearance

Q&A - I live a long way from the Lakes but manage to get up for a couple of weeks photography every year; for locations I tend to have to depend on guidebooks and on-line websites etc as I don't have time to develop local knowledge. What would you suggest as the best websites or guidebooks for Lakes Locations?
