A lot of people running down the guitar and the process of the 100 minute build. I really enjoyed it, we know Ben can do his job and do it brilliantly, where's the harm in having a bit of fun, thanks Ben, really enjoyed it, and for the lack of time I think it's a blooming marvellous guitar. Imagine what it would have looked like if you had taken your time.
Come on guys,,, how many times in the videos does he say,,, this is a fast build to thank subscribers?? He knew it wasn't going to sound perfect. It was just a fun build..
it sounds and looks amazing, i love those combinations of colours that stand out from the pile of guitars in the shop and this is a perfect example. i especially liked the clean sound, great job
Portion of body where arm rests looks dirty as if from sweat residue and over all poor stain job on body. Stain blotches on pick guard. The guitar strings don't line up directly over the pickup poles. No back plate. And pick guard is not flush with the body. Nope, never would have guessed it.
They call that character! lol If I hadn't known, definitely no. It's got a lot of good stuff going on! The timed builds had a lot of heart! Hey there you go, name it "purpleheart" Ben deserves one for bravery under fire!
I wouldn't necessarily guess only 2 hours but... You can tell it's not their typical work :) I really hope Ben goes back and fixes / finishes it up. Because it really is beautiful in a lot of ways.
Hey Ben, from memory I don't think you mentioned the make or model of that pickup, instead simply describing the scratch plate as preassembled or pre-built. The clean tone has a really nice chime to it.
I don't know if it's due to how the melamine lacquer has cured/crystalised, but finished the guitar looks great, where as I thought it looked pretty slap-dash as the stain was being applied?
I would like to see a build on the style of the Ibanez S. Super slim, super fast, and super small. Take that challenge and see if you can improve on the wizard neck or the weight of the guitar without loosing any sustain or character.
or jackson soloist, since they also have super slim necks. I'd like to see a nice square cut guitar just for something different. It would be so far outside ben's comfort zone that he would actually have to try hard not to grind away and round it down.
Yeah maybe. I just wish there were more S types instead of the big RG types. But I do agree, anything outside a Les Paul or a Strat or a Tele is welcome
infectionsman Yeah, that would really help a ton. I think part of the ring is also coming from how Phil is hybrid plucking the strings that cause that sounds, I believe I've even hear EVH have that problem when hybrid picking (I think). Sounds pretty darn good for a 100 minute guitar in my opinion
The craziest thing was hand drilling the machine screws in the neck pocket though haha. I thought there was just no way he was gonna make it. Wood screws would have easily saved like 5-10m.
What did you do with the Guitar? Just finished watching the whole build, very stressful watching you try to finish in time. I can’t imagine the stress you were feeling.
Ben mentioned that because it was a kit guitar build, it should not have the Crimson logo on it. Considering this was built in 1hr 40, I can understand why!
Now do a 1000 hour Ultra Build: Better than anything that so far exists - with (at least) 10 strings, no wood and the ultimate in precision and wear resistant materials. Something that every string playing musician will want in their arsenal, regardless of 'style' :P
Yep, looks like a 2 hour build. Its mostly good, but the sound is off a little, and the finish (especially on the top horn, where there was not enough stain or some was rubbed away and it has left a streak) doesn't look complete. Also, more time was spent on this than first advertised, with the fine-tuning and setting up, and the early setup work (like cutting and wiring the scratch plate!) so it isnt really a 100 minute build at all. However, all that nitpicking said, it still came out pretty well. Personally, I wouldn't buy one, but it's an alright job.
Nick Haakman Like it sounds flat and lifeless to my ears. I have heard every guitar they have demonstrated on this channel and to me this sounds pretty bad. Just my own opinion though. 🙂
Seems like he's not muting the strings properly due to his finger picking technique so those nasty harmonics of the first 2 strings are all over the place. Its not a problem of the feedback coming from the amp, that's not even a high gain tone.
Phil normally plugs the guitar into his Helix then direct into the laptop. I don't think there is any post-production in terms of re-amping or tweaking the eq etc. To hear a "live" demo, watch the one with the 6 hour build - 1 pickup, no controls straight into an Orange amp. The tonal variety is produced simply by Phil's playing styles.
I am not sure this is a great endorsement for Crimson, nor the kits. I understand that there was a time limit for the build, but in the end this showcases a poorly finished and flawed guitar. The resonant string noise is horrible... Also, from what I can gather, this guitar as demonstrated cost about $800.00 (not including time and the needed tools to finish).
To be fair, ben says multiple times that this is "not how you should do this" and that people would spend "days, weeks even" taking their time to build this. So it is not intended as a representation of Crimson or its level of quality.. However, I challenge anyone to do the same level of job in the same amount of time, because I guarantee they won't get it done to anywhere near the same standard.

I was skeptical on the multi colour finish when I saw the build but it really shines through in this video.
I do love that finish :)
Thanks for demo Phil
If you didn't know, would you have guessed that it was "thrown" together in about 2 hours? Happy holidays everyone.
yes.
Portion of body where arm rests looks dirty as if from sweat residue and over all poor stain job on body. Stain blotches on pick guard. The guitar strings don't line up directly over the pickup poles. No back plate. And pick guard is not flush with the body. Nope, never would have guessed it.

Awesome playing Phil !
Well done, thanks for sharing!!

Kevin I know he said it was house of tone... don’t remember which model... it was in the first vid of the series.
Sounded good and that guy can play! Wow!
Sounds great I would love to purchase it
I like the last few guitars you have made, much prefer the more traditional shapes.
That Walker bloke can play a bit can 'e!
before the staining process, ash weneer on headstock would be nice
I thought there was too much blue till the scratch plate went on, looks good now tho
I don't know if it's due to how the melamine lacquer has cured/crystalised, but finished the guitar looks great, where as I thought it looked pretty slap-dash as the stain was being applied?
It looks even better in daylight as opposed to the studio lighting.
It's definitely a "look" In much of the way the Raw series is a certain look.
You know how wet cloth looks darker than dry? I think it was the same deal with the stain.
its awesome regardless, wow

Turned out nice hey
Fantastic work! Just jam a piece of foam under the strings behind the nut to stop the harmonic ringing haha.

I like it
Maybe a different pickup and some eq'ing to go for a darker sound perhaps but what do I know?
What did you do with the Guitar?
Just finished watching the whole build, very stressful watching you try to finish in time. I can’t imagine the stress you were feeling.
It's on my wall at home, I play it often and love it very much! B
Sounds fantastic.
00:35 tremolo that and its black metal
We'll, for 2hrs, not bad (in Phil's hands)
why so short demo, why Phil why ? :(
no headstock logo? still not finished!
its better that way
Ben mentioned that because it was a kit guitar build, it should not have the Crimson logo on it. Considering this was built in 1hr 40, I can understand why!
Plus he built it for himself. No giveaways, no selling. It's his guitar, he doesn't need a logo
How much would that guitar cost
So, now it has string trees and I presume it has had a setup. So how long did that take ?
Now do a 1000 hour Ultra Build: Better than anything that so far exists - with (at least) 10 strings, no wood and the ultimate in precision and wear resistant materials. Something that every string playing musician will want in their arsenal, regardless of 'style' :P
something that others will copy in 40 years. Leo fender managed it and his instruments are cheap garbage sold at top prices imho.
TheFissionchips You're wrong
TheFissionchips I own a Fender yes, also a Gibson, Crimson, Aristides, Danelectro, Gretsch and more. And you're still just wrong.
I note you own no modern machines. I bet you like 'classic rock' too. lmao. Fanboy.
TheFissionchips Look up Aristides, it's made from composits, so I guess that's not a "modern machine". You're still so wrong

That doesn't quite sound right to me.......
david williams In what way?
Nick Haakman Like it sounds flat and lifeless to my ears. I have heard every guitar they have demonstrated on this channel and to me this sounds pretty bad. Just my own opinion though. 🙂
david williams Ah okay, I think it sounds nice except for the weird ringing harmonics
too close to the amp, weird feedback happening.
Seems like he's not muting the strings properly due to his finger picking technique so those nasty harmonics of the first 2 strings are all over the place. Its not a problem of the feedback coming from the amp, that's not even a high gain tone.
How about a "live" demo without any post-production?

Grindwërks This was a bit of fun.
Go buy a Les Paul for $4000 with a heap of flaws. Can't even tune the bloody things.
Pretentious bollx
Mephiston stop talking sense, that type of shenanigans doesn’t belong on UA-cam
I have to say, I'm not a fan of that finish. I know, a hundred minutes...still, damn.
sounds like cats bumpin uglies
I'm sorry but that's a mone. Stop rushing and build guitars man. Speed isn't everything.
Keith Crain have you ever watched any other crimson vid?
