  • This weeks episode Ady Plumbs in our fresh water tank. He explains what each fitting does and shows how it can be done by a complete novice. We have kept it as one video so its much longer than our usual vlogs so get yourself a drink before watching this one

    Every part fitted is a step closer to the finish. I can see this is going to be a well fitted out boat.

    my experience (40yrs) has been to only use the rubberised "superseal" inserts on the plastic fittings, On Conex /compression fittings i always use the standard inserts. Why?
    The insertion depth as you say is often very shallow on brassware so the olive can often not seat on the pipe properly.
    Also,
    The compession olive can squash down on the rubber seals instead of the pipe,
    Trust me i learned that mistake once !

    Dunno if im the only boat with it, but I insisted on all soldered copper piping then used metal flex pipes at the taps and at one at the tank...to allow for any slight movements.
    I dont trust those plastic push joints and elbows all over the place.

    Future proofing to make adaptation easier later down the line is so important and I am pleased to see you taking that into concideration. A few extra £ spent now means saved days and headaches in 3-5 years time.

    Thanks for so carefully showing how the Speedfit connectors work. We have something similar here called SharkBite, but they're made out of brass, and don't have that easy to turn locking ring. Pretty much, if you put a pipe into a SharkBite, It's not easy to get back out.
    You're doing an excellent job and it looks like it's going to be very reliable.

    Great video again grandad (and granny!) 😉. Well explained. I much prefer JD Speedfit to Hep2; I found the JD fittings more reliable when disassembling, if you need to. Been using Speedfit since the late 80s, early 90s when I used to fit kitchens and bathrooms.

    Very well explained, I've used Hep2o and Speedfit fittings since 2002 and I've only ever had one leak from a damaged o ring, which was probably my fault. Boat is coming along nicely.

    Neat setup on the plumbing.'
    I presume it is OK to mount the accumulator tank horizontal?
    Are the fittings on the pump tight? They seemed to move as you moved the flexible pipe. If you wind the PTFE tape on Clockwise it will tend to stay in the thread. Hold the fitting in your left hand with the thread pointing to the right then wind the tape clockwise.

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  3 роки тому

      Hi David. Yes its ok to mount the tank horizontal. Yes they do move and i had to check if they were done right but ive been assured that thats how they are supposed to be. We will find out once the water is in the tank hahaha. Have you been secretly watching us editing next weeks vlog when i mention a few times about putting the PTFE tape clockwise hahaha

    You’re a few months ahead of me in your fit out, I’m finding tips and tricks that are proving vital in your videos. I’ve been scratching my head about insulating my water tank and your solution seems perfect for me(I also have a soar valley boat), I was wondering what glue you used to line the tank? Great vids, great examples to folliw, thanks very much

      Thanks very much for the reply 👍 Yh I think the boat is fantastic, it’s been sat outside on land for 15 years. A project boat that never got started so I’ve got quite a bit of surface rust to treat and painting to do to get it back to looking new. Have you put a level sensor in the watertank?
    If you are smart then the sensor is a couple inches shorter than the high of the tank.
    By doing that you have a bit of reserve when the meter says empty

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  2 роки тому

      Hi Raymond, Yes we have a sensor and it has been really handy, takes away a lot of the guess work. Ours is calibrated to about an inch and a half from the bottom of the tank 👍

    I would put a isolation valve on the output of the pump so if any problems with it you can isolate the pump. Then put the outlet valve were you have put it now.

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  3 роки тому

      Hi Peter, Thankyou for your comment and I hear what you're saying. Ive chosen to include the accumulator between the valves just so that can be isolated from the tank as well

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  2 роки тому +1

      There is a sensor fitted on the outlet of the tank with a 12v supply. The gauge is then fitted remotely ( we have ours on the Bathroom wall ) then you need to run a signal wire between the sensor and the gauge. The one we sourced came complete with all you need including installation instructions.

      @@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg oh okay cool, thank you :) yeah I like the idea of it being in the bathroom, that was my idea, so when people come in they can see how much water they have for a shower ect, my other idea was in the kitchen, or maybe if it's possible to have 2 gauges? One for kitchen and one for the bathroom? So you can tell how Much water you have in both places? Is that possible?
