Merry Christmas Eric. For me the 2000 Grinch is the definitive one since it gives more depth to the story, the sets, makeup and look of the film practically bleeds Christmas and Holiday Cheer and Jim Carrey's performance is positively magnetic. It's impossible to not enjoy it.
Nah man, this movie was straight dog shit. I mean I dont remember there being dog butt kissing and the grinch’s face in human breast from the original dr suess story 🤷♂️ so overall it’s a bad representation of a timeless classic
Merry Christmas, Eric! The 1966 special was always a classic, and I enjoyed the 2000 version, though it was a little goofy for my tastes. Kudos to Jim Carrey for tolerating that uncomfortable looking make-up and prosthetics.
Merry Christmas Eric. The 1966 Chuck Jones cartoon is a classic and will always be superior but the 2000 Jim Carrey version from director Ron Howard is a noble attempt to adapt a Dr Seuss book
Merry Christmas to you, Eric! I hope you have a wonderful day because I am. The Grinch is one of my favorite Dr Seuss stories ever and I am amazed how there have been three adaptations of that story. For me, I will always love the 1966 version as well as the one with Jim Carrey.
Merry Christmas Eric. I loved both the Chuck Jones animated Grinch and the 2000's version growing up and I still do. Though I notice more of the flaws of the '00's film, Carrey's performance still remains the best element of the film..even with his improve moments he nails the grumpy characteristic of the Grinch. Which is more than I can about 2018's Grinch..I don't know what Illumination was thinking turning The Grinch into a awkward Dork that already has a heart? The best version is definitely the 1966 animated short, it has stood the test of time.
Merry Christmas, Eric! And what a coincidence! I was just thinking yesterday that it had been a really long time since I saw any videos from you (since Halloween of this year), so I watched several of your videos yesterday, and now today, you upload again. I mean, it's Christmas, so I shouldn't be that surprised, but still. XD Awesome video, too! I wasn't expecting a 3-way Versus video with the Grinch movies, but it's pretty clever and fitting.
1966 is a Holiday Classic that at the Time making it would be shocking that it Aged like Fine Wine and Seuss had full control over it while keeping his Vision of the Story Intact which nowadays is a Rarity, 10 out of 10, 2000 to me is my Favorite Grinch Adaptation and my Favorite of the Dr.Seuss Adaptations Second being Cat in the Hat(No Joke that’s a Guilty Pleasure for Mine), 2000 felt like a Improvement with Jim Carrey having my Respect in this Role and that Green Yak Made Suit and it makes me feel Emotional Every Time I see it, it also has Charm, Hilarious Moments, Soul, and Heart, it’s a Masterpiece that I would Rewatch Every Year even with its Flaws, 10 out of 10, and 2018 is a Abomination that plays it too Safe like the Lorax, but the Grinch is far worse as it’s the Worst Illumination Movie that I swear I fall asleep the more I Watch it, it’s Literally Illumination making a Grinch Movie and taking Elements and the Writers of Despicable Me but more Generic, Boring, Heartless, Soulless, and Tasteless, I will Never Watch 2018 Again, it’s a Terrible Movie and Adaptation that Insults the Original Source Material, 1 out of 10, Merry Christmas to you Eric Carter and Everyone and have a Wonderful New Year.
While I do agree with your problems with it and I do agree the 1966 version is superior, the 2000 Jim Carrey Grinch is still a guilty pleasure of mine.
Merry Christmas Captain Eric. Kudos to you for ending the year with a WOW video. I have only seen the 2018 film. But now that I've seen this, definitely gonna checkout the other two films. Happy Holidays ❤❤
I think it's pretty obvious that Cindy Lou in the 2000 movie DID recognize the Grinch when he was in her house, but she pretended not to. That's why she told "Santa" that the Grinch was sweet. I think it also explains why she was in the Grinch's Christmas sack, she snuck in there to surprise the Grinch, because she knew it was him.
The jim carrey movie is good. Beautiful backgrounds and music, Cindy lou is adorable and brave, the Grinch is funny. I like it! The original has more heart and charm but this one is entertaining and fun; my favorite of the 3 🙂
I actually liked the 2000 and 2018 version. Yeah they weren’t faithful like at all, but I found some enjoyment out of them. That’s what makes it so special for me.
7:03 It turns out that the quote was pulled from a deleted scene that happened early in the movie and was added to this scene Another reason why it shouldn't have been scrapped. It was hilarious and shows how extremely chaotic the Grinch is from the get-go
0/10 review! You forgot about the mean one! The grinch horror movie! Joking aside, Merry Christmas and a happy new year! (Also was a great video! Though I definitely recommend The mean one! Despite it seeming like another horror movie ruining a franchise with a cheap cash grab similar to..*Cough* Winnie the pooh blood and honey *Cough* but while it's blood is cheap af CGI...it's actually a great watch with actually cool kills! The mean one is kinda similar to Jim Carrey Grinch but a killer xD again, it's not a top tier movie, but it's definitely far from the worst! I highly recommend it! Would love to see you talk about it!)
Another of my favorite movie reviewers brought up a "what if" for 2018 grinch. What if, for most of the movie, he wants to take Christmas for himself because he never had it before, and wants everyone else to feel his pain. Then, when he realizes what he did was wrong and brings everything back, he heads up to his cave to be alone. Then, Max brings up a single strand of Christmas lights that the Grinch forgot to return. This gives the Grinch the idea to celebrate Christmas with Max, his found family and best friend.
Hot take but my favorite is probably the Jim Carrey version I mean it has the most meat to it i like the Grinchs actions being more justified and im not a fan of the new one its way too boring
Honestly, the original grinch movie is really good. I enjoy the old one a lot. The very old one like I enjoyed that 1 a lot. I love that Christmas movie so much but live action. One-stop running my thing, but the old old 1 is definitely good I. Enjoy so much
Look I can understand the 2018 but 2000 one Jesus Christ like look that's your opinion but it's not that terrible it's actually an very good adaption of the Grinch in my opinion. I think Jim Carry did a phenomenal job playing the the Grinch . And what you mentioned, why would the whos take accountability it was years ago and they forgot about it their not going to take it to the grave. Like, I'm not trying to hate on your opinion, but giving it a 4 is an understatement that I don't even woke and be thankful it's not that.
Ok so at 3:07 you mentioned you said that the girl is dumb because she didn’t notice it was the grinch the movie revolves around. While you may be true about that if there was only one grinch but you are totally wrong. Grinch is a species. Just like the who’s are a species. This is why they call him THE grinch, they don’t know his name. They just know him as THE grinch because he’s the grinch that hates Christmas. That’s why the who’s all fear him because the grinch hates Christmas when everyone else celebrates it. I’m also above 95% sure Dr. Seuss himself talked about this. Next time, do your research before embarrassing yourself with knowledge you don’t know or just don’t do the video. You seem like the kind of person who just craps on movies for views. Hate the attitude. Do your job and research a little better next time why don’t you
I feel like the 2018 Grinch movie is worse than the Jim Carrey version cuz everything in that movie is wrong compared to that one and the cartoon. At least in the Jim Carrey version, you understand why he wants to steal Christmas, and at times, Jim Carrey does feel like The Grinch. This Grinch is too nice, and HE HAS PEARLY WHITE TEETH!! I don't understand why people prefer this one over the Jim Carrey Grinch, and i'm glad you agree.
I got more out of hanging out with family and playing a different character’s video game for the holidays!! Merry Christmas Eric! And looking forward to another year of #CaptainEric
The original Grinch will ALWAYS be the BEST! I do have a very small soft spot for the live action remake. Mainly because of Jim Carry and how much I'm a huge fan of anything he does. He's my personal favorite comedian ever. 98% of the time, I usually ignore remake live action adaptations of my favorite films. But if it wasn't for Jim Carry, I would have ignored it as well. Aside from Carry, the film COULD have worked. If it was an original movie. Instead of a live action remake of a classic cartoon. As for the new The Grinch....never seen it, nor I ever plan to. Especially after hearing so many negative things about it. But even if it was good, I don't care. The original animated film doesn't need to be retold countless times in different variation ways. Oh! and speaking of which, and as for that horror Grinch movie. *sign* ....please....just stop. The 1996 animated film is a timeless classic that hasn't aged and still holds up decades later! Hollywood can remake the Grinch all they won't, *BUT THEY WILL NEVER TOUCH THE MAGIC OF THE ORIGNAL FILM!*
i feel like the Jim Carrey version is underappreciated cause Carrey felt like the Grinch from the book in live action form but with the certain flair Jim likes to give i mean the dude manage to do the creepy smile he was perfect casting IMO
One thing I'll say about the 2000s Grinch is that at least the comedy doesn't 100% date itself while the 2018 film...kinda makes me a little glad that Dr. Seuss Enterprises switched to Warner Animation for projects like Netflix's adaptation of Green Eggs and Ham with the second serving also being an adaptation of the Butter Battle Book; and Warner's upcoming adaptation of the Cat in The Hat (which I hope turns out better than whatever Mike Myers was doing in his.)
I honestly would say in my book, the 2000 version is the best. Don’t get me wrong, the original is a classic and the 2018 one is awful. But if you’re adapting something to be a movie, it must add something to pad out the runtime and in terms of padding, the 2000 one is superior. Once more, if you can rhyme through a whole movie, get the grinch’s motivations, Cindy’s purpose and have a backstory that can be followed, you have succeeded in adapting something into a full length movie. Copying and pasting the cartoon with no paddling for cinema would have just been a copy and paste. Thus in my book, 2000’s the best although I know what a treasure the animated special is
You know what would have been an effective way to make the Grinch's actions sympathetic, have him working at a retail shop prior to Christmas! Anyone that works retail in December can tell you they don't blame him for wanting to ruin the holiday!
The original 1966 version is my favorite, followed by the 2018 version. I absolutely hate the 2000 version because of all the adult innuendos, inappropriate jokes/scenes, and overall much darker tone. Then there's that depressing "Where Are You Christmas?" song. I do give props to Jim Carrey"s humorous acting, which does help to lighten the tone of the movie a lot, but even that can't save the film. A Christmas movie based on a kid's book should be filled with joy and love, not bullying, sadness, and adult references.
My opinion, I can’t choose between any of them. I love all three of them equally. Except for that broadcasted musical version with Matthew Morrison, that one was a mistake.
Honestly, the original grinch is such a classic. I remember my father's showing me this first movie when I was a kid. And the first grinch was such my favorite. As a teenager and as an adult really. I have a soft spark for the original. And the song is like, so perfect, like your mean one? It's just so classic. As for the other 2, the live action one was not really? My thing I watched it when I was in middle school and I didn't like dude. No offense to anyone who loves it. Ask for the 2018 1? Well I managed to watch us in theaters at first I thought it was okay. I guess, but then when I rewatched it. For Christmas tradition I was like it wasn't good honestly. No offense to anyone who loves it really? I mean, it could have been better. Could have been better. What is your favorite grinch movie? And which one would you prefer
To me Jim Carry's How the Grinch Stole Christmas is my all-time favorite, especially my favorite Christmas movie of all time. So i disagree here with ur opinion on that film.
Hey eric do you already planned your top 5 best and worst films of the year yet? And have you seen chicken run 2 yet. Also for next year christmas versus would you consider doing a Christmas carol versus video by chance. Merry Christmas Eric
While I agree that the TV Special is superior I still like the Jim Carry version, yeah sure it has problems but I don’t mind some of the changes and additions it made plus Jim Carrey was great, as for the 2018 one yeah it isn’t very good, it’s not as terrible as you say it is but it’s very bland and forgettable. Also I highly suggest for next year’s Halloween that you do a 3 way versus video on the Universal Mummy movies, (1933) vs (1999) vs (2017) or maybe The Wolf Man instead since there is a new one is coming out next year, (1941) vs (2010 directors cut) vs (2024).
Now, I am not saying I hate the feature films. NOT BY ANY MEANS! But, man, oh, man, do they have a sh*t-tonne of filler. Extra scenes that are completely contradicting the book. The ‘60s special had a little bit of filler with the Grinch explaining all those presents the Who girls and boys will receive on Christmas. But, again, it, was, BRIEF. Only tangled in the span of about, what, 2 minutes? It’s perfect. Maybe also with Boris Karloff saying different lines from the book, or putting them in a different order, but, it’s the best experience to watch through, just because, it is the quickest. Not because of the characters portrayal, that goddamn PACING. That being said, the other two have their moments. Jim Carrey was perfect for his tortuous time on shooting. Yes, he looks [barely] & sounds nothing like the Jim I know (man, his voice is way too deep; at least with the Mask, it varies), but, he’s under a furry body, a bloated belly, oversized feet, a cat-like muzzle, rotten teeth, curly brows, green irises, & quaffed hair. All of that classic Rick Baker makeup took 2.5 hrs just to put on him, and 1 hr to remove. It was like “getting buried alive on a day-to-day basis”. Plus, this one has my favourite Cindy Lou Who [or Cameron Seely; I need to decide]. Taylor Momsen was perfect for the role, and the only one who didn’t have the nose of a “rat/mole”. Plus, I know she’s stupid to not know James is disguised as Father Christmas, but, come on. It’s Dr. Seuss. They gotta stick to the book, AT LEAST once or twice. Also that “heart or shoes” line was also pulled from the book, so, f*ck it, ya know what? As for 2018. It exists. Was my Mum’s favourite film for a while (until I showed her and my family the other two movies just hours ago). I have absolutely nothing to say on this one. It’s got filler, Cameron Seely from Greatest Showman is in there (love her so much), and, a personality change for our seasick crocodile himself. This is the one where Mum gets a few chuckles here and there.
I just realised I need SO MUCH MORE of your videos 🥰 I really do love the style, the editing and the set ups of this VS-videos

The 2000 grinch is absolutely incredible in my opinion, it really deserves more recognition. Fantastic video Eric, happy holidays 🎉🎄 .
"Six thirty, dinner with me! Can't cancel that again!" I always quote that line to myself.
Mine as well 😂😂😂
Merry Christmas Eric. For me the 2000 Grinch is the definitive one since it gives more depth to the story, the sets, makeup and look of the film practically bleeds Christmas and Holiday Cheer and Jim Carrey's performance is positively magnetic. It's impossible to not enjoy it.
@dbroha sounds like you just have a short attention span
Nah man, this movie was straight dog shit. I mean I dont remember there being dog butt kissing and the grinch’s face in human breast from the original dr suess story 🤷♂️ so overall it’s a bad representation of a timeless classic
For me, the definitive one should be the original book by Dr. Seuss.
Just watched it, it was a masterpiece in my eyes
Merry Christmas, Eric! The 1966 special was always a classic, and I enjoyed the 2000 version, though it was a little goofy for my tastes. Kudos to Jim Carrey for tolerating that uncomfortable looking make-up and prosthetics.

WE STOPPING THE GRINCH WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
The Cat in the Hat may be Dr. Seuss’ most famous character, but the Grinch will always be my favorite.
Merry Christmas Eric. The 1966 Chuck Jones cartoon is a classic and will always be superior but the 2000 Jim Carrey version from director Ron Howard is a noble attempt to adapt a Dr Seuss book

8:43 That’s honestly how I would expect most people to react when their heart is growing.
Merry Christmas Eric. I loved both the Chuck Jones animated Grinch and the 2000's version growing up and I still do. The best version is definitely the 1966 animated short, it has stood the test of time.
The movie may not be the best, but How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an absolute classic for me and my favorite interpretation of the character.
Merry Christmas, Eric! And what a coincidence! Awesome video, too! I wasn't expecting a 3-way Versus video with the Grinch movies, but it's pretty clever and fitting.
I prefer Jim Carrey from 2000, he made that Grinch way funnier than those two from 1966 and 2018.

Chuck Jones is responsible for the original Grinch design as well for the 1966 special.
Merry Christmas Captain Eric. Kudos to you for ending the year with a WOW video.

1966: a holiday classic.

you are taken the jim carrey version waay to serisly man some of us acselly grew up with it
I think you’re being a little too hard on the 2018 film.
It definitely got a lot of stuff wrong but it was still a fun and heartwarming film.

Jim Carrey's Grinch costume is better then that cat in the hat costume from that movie

Cindy Lu in the 2018 movies sucked. She pissed me off, she was so annoying.

A Christmas movie based on a kid's book should be filled with joy and love, not bullying, sadness, and adult references.
Merry Christmas, Eric! I hope you don't spend time at your home alone.
Talking to the description, but, the year was 1966, not ‘96.
IMO 1 2d animation 2 3d animation 3 live action
I actually liked the 2018 version better at least for the feature length films
I did this but it just The Jim Carrey version VS the 2018 one 🎄
Happy Christmas Eric.
Thanks Frazer! And a (belated) Happy Christmas to you too! I hope you're enjoying the new year!!
@@EricCarter12 Yep.
I don’t care you say the grinch in 2000 because I like happy days he make it Ron Howard I like all grinch movies
Merry Christmas! The original Grinch is the best.
Merry Christmas Eric 🎄🎁
Merry Christmas bud!
Merry Christmas Eric, also what do you think of Christmas Vacation and where does it rank among Christmas movies?
Great video as always
You forgot to include The Mean One
Great comparison
Merry Christmas captain Eric
Well you know what they, Nothing will beats the original
Merry Christmas Eric!!!!
Merry Christmas buddy!!
I remember cringing a lot at the Jim Carrey version when I watched it when I was younger
14:04: I don’t hate the extra filler sequences, but, as an actual adaptation of the book, they are almost terrible.
You were 8 when you saw Grinch? Me I was 3 when I saw it 23 years ago.
Honestly you could have just done the intro and say it’s the 60s version while you were saying you were saying the 3 options
