Just came to comment that your video was super helpful and made me feel confident to fix my umbrella again! For those watching this while putting the crank back, I found it helpful watching at 2.5x slower to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
This is a great step by step video and saved me from buying a new umbrella! I was afraid to take the crank assembly apart, that it would explode like a clock, lol. Good to know it’s possible. 👍
Thank you for your video! My umbrella’s string broke and I was about to throw it away. I went looking for a new one, but very pricey and FUGLY! I watched your video and was able to fix mine. Again many thanks! 😀
This worked perfectly! Just replaced the cord in ours (different brand, same construction). The only snag was a literal snag. The replacement cord kept getting hung up on something inside the pole, so we just needed to attach it to some wire and feed that through first. Easy peasy
Sure hated to throw away my sturdy umbrella but thanks to your video I can use it again. Haha I lost track of washer components to reassemble and my spring is different from your brand, but the washer pieces are the same. Once I assembled washers in right order my spring latch fell right into place. It works! ❤
Saved me having to buy another one as an essential part (the cog) had fallen into the grass. After watching this I went back and eventually found it. After that it was easy. Thanks!
Great video to help me put the umbrella back together! I just had to cut a piece of string off the end and retie it together, but this helped with getting the gear portion back in right!
I followed this video a year ago with my crank umbrella. Mine doesn’t have the other hole at the top and i problem solved it last year, but this year I’m having a super senior moment. Ugh! I’ve watched this video maybe 10 times and recruited my family too. Can’t figure out how I managed last year!!!
Thank you so much for this video. It really helped me do mine as well. However, on the washer that has a line in the middle with two tabs to secure the nut broke on one of the tabs. Do you know where I can get extras or send me a link on where to buy an extra one?
Most outdoor umbrellas have a tilt mechanism. I took my crank apart, pulled out the damaged cord and tried to follow the directions in this video. However, the cord can't make it through the small hole at the tilt mechanism. It has to go through both halves. Please add instructions for replacing the cord on a tiltable umbrella.
Follow the instructions to the point in which you have the cord through the pulley wheel at the top. Then you have to get a piece of 14 gauge wire, approx 6 ft. long and feed it from the pulley end, through the hole in the tilt mechanism down to the crank opening. Make sure you operate the tilt mechanism in both directions with the wire in the pole to make sure you are in the right path. If the tilt does not work in both directions you have to find the right hole opening in the tilt knuckle before moving on. You then connect the cord to the end of the wire with tape near the pulley and pull it through to the crank opening. Follow standard directions from there.
ha, exactly what i just went through...i used a coat hanger to catch and drag the chord through..worked much better than i thought it was going to be, putting the tilt back together and move pole to sit was fun too...
I've fixed my cord twice now. The problem is, it's a tilt umbrella so there is a pushbutton at the upper end of the umbrella. How does the cord get threaded through that click button? There is space to put it through on either side of the button which is what I've done, twice. Low and behold, the cord broke again. I'm getting to be an expert at fixing the string, however, how do I get it to stop from breaking?
My question is, why do my umbrella not have a permanent loop string at the top of to tie knot and put safety ball. My umbrella didn't come with a safety loop or safety ball on it. The to of my pole has a wheel in it to feed the string through. It is attached with studs so I cannot remove wheel to re thread the string.. My string was so worn I could not Salvage enough of it to try to re-tie it at the top. Do you know how I can find replacement part?
Thanks for this video; I was going insane trying to fix it without it. I got to the last few steps and now the nut won't thread onto the bolt. Any ideas?
I REALLY need help. My pulley system is way different. I can’t find a single video or picture of it anywhere online or on UA-cam. Everyone’s about to put their string in one way and out the other side. Mine isn’t like that. It’s all on the same side. … help!!!!!!!!
ha, like feeding that cord is sooooo easy....and PRAY you don't have a tilt mechanism, that adds a whole new dynamic, it can be done, with an allen wrench to remove tilt, and coat hanger to try and catch rope to drag through little hole, good luck...
Mine has a hub below the crank housing that hold an insert adapter can anyone guide me on how to remove this hub. It appears not to split in half but possibly slide
Didn't work for me, as I couldn't get new cord to pass the pulley and go down towards handle. Eventually drilled out rivets holding pulley in, fed cord on manually, re riveted. BUT as mine has a tilt mechanism, (half way down) there was no way the new cord would pass through the narrow cord channel.
I also found it very difficult to get the cord through the correct portion of the tilt mechanism. The previous reply from "jl" describes a procedure that works but it can take trial and error to get a wire connected to the cord to go through the correct path in the tilt joint. I think it took me over an hour of attempts to get the wire/cord through the correct path in the tilt hinge. Not fun!
Yes, I see these cables break often judging by how many videos there are showing how to re-string a crank ubrella. I have replaced the broken cable in mine with a stainless steel cable but I am having trouble reassembling the crank. I filmed how I took apart the crank, and I have the parts back in exactly the same order. The umbrella cranks open well, but the crank does not hold in the open position now. The tension in the umbrella pulls the cable and makes the crank unwind and the umbrella closes when you let go of the handle. Does anyone know how this mechanism works and can suggest a fix? The order of each of those washers is correct, the direction of the cog and the ratchet the clicks against it is correct. The rachet clicks as I crank the umbrella open, whcih I think is right, but then it just closes when I let go of the handle. Very frustrating that there is no guidance on how to fix these things.
Take a look at our webshop for a durable patio umbrella and base! You can also ask us any questions using our webchat! shop.fiberbuiltumbrellas.com
I know Im kinda randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to stream newly released tv shows online ?

Where can I buy the crank and the assembly parts

Thank YOU! I fixed it! The wind had launched it - broken cord. A little bit different umbrella, same mechanisms inside. Very grateful.
My crank umbrella was different than this one but the steps were close enough that I was able to fix it and figure out the rest. Thanks for post.

Thanks; I've a cord replace on an umbrella, this has given me the understanding of how the mechanism works....off to get some cord now.
The string popped on my brand new umbrella. This video saved us. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for posting this! I have spent the last hour trying to figure out how the handle mechanism went back together
Awesome vid! Was about to throw my umbrella away. Fixed it after following the video.🙌🏾
One of the better DIY videos!
Thanks! Helped me figure out what fell apart in mine and helped me put it back together! Works!
My Umbrella string just got lose sooo, did the work on the crank assembly.

Hello sir I have one project on umbrella.
Will you please help me 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
Use a better cord. Like a parachute cord! Won't have to replace it.
god bless 🥹

Sorry but this looks really putzy and complicated. How about simply using a better quality cord like older patio umbrellas had?
58$? really. What a joke.
Good video! Maybe lower the music next time!
