That’s why my evolution from DSLR to Leica digital included the lesser known Leica Vario-X system. Leica is known for their prime lenses, but my transition from decade of shooting with DSLR and zoom lenses to Leica with prime lenses had to involve the Vario-X, with its fixed 18-46mm f/3.5-56.... the Vario-X is a great addition to the Leica line-up for reluctant DSLR shooters who wish to evolve up to Leica (like most hard-core photographers), I slowly moved forward with the Leica Q and now with the Leica M240....and hopefully continue to the M10-R...great review...thanks
See here for instance: ua-cam.com/video/Sv9leZyauZ0/v-deo.html (at 0:13sec). The upper front button at Leica M cameras "press & hold", then choose long exposure times as you can see in the video via rear control wheel, really straightforward :)
Great video again! Keep up the good work. I have a question: if i buy a leica lens and use it on my fuji xh1 body will the result be very good or the leica body (and sensor) is a must to use? Thanks again
Got very dissapointed of my 240 earlier this year when trying astroshooting. It wouldn't do more than 8 secs exposure, atleast not at ISO 3200 or higher, if I did 400iso it could do 20 secs, but thats not enough for astrowork. Sadly! 😞
The M10-P can do better in astro. I will post a video next weeks on the exposure settings of the M10-P. But share your frustration on Leica's exposure time constraints.
How funny, I was just searching the web for M10m Infos and found your video, funny in the sense that I independently planned a shooting on "mount" Etzel, so close to where you did your shot :-)
Great! Sihlsee is one of my favorite spots. Who knows, we might stumble into each other by chance one day :) Did you do the shooting and posted the result?
@@mathphotographer Yes, we did first tests this week on Etzel direction Zurich, however with the almost full moon that was more for fun, check examples on instagram.com/cprotz/ we plan for the end of the month from Etzel top, when the milky way is better visible. You can find me under cprotz at gmail if you want.
beautiful image and showing the capabilities of the camera, i would like to ask how or why does the lens when zooming sounds like it has a click when moving between focal lengths, is it only those 3 or a smooth zoom? looking forward to the other image you took with the nikon lens.
JayGrapher.Th it’s because of the design of the rangefinder. When these lenses were designed there was no such thing as live view or EVFs. For these wide angles you needed an auxiliary viewfinder mounted on the hot shoe. Look up the franckenfinder. It’s already large and complicated enough with only discrete angles. For an actual zoom you would need a viewfinder half the size of the camera.
Question; would it be possible to shoot through red, green, and blue filters and merge the result in post to create a color image? You would need a solid star tracker to make it happen. What do you think/

wow this is the first time seeing milky way in black and white! It looks a lot more elegant without the color

Astonishing photograph, this monochrome sensor is simply spectacular.
It is mind blowing!
Awesome image. Thanks Matt
Great video
Amazing shot. Was waiting for you to do the 100% pan around the image at the end of the video! Oh well... looking forward to the next...
Thx Paul :)
Absolutely stunning photo. Can't wait to see what Nikon does on noct.
The Nikon video is out, pls check my channel :)
Great video! 👍
What is the app you use to plan your milky way shoot?
The best thing is the price!!!!!!!! 8000€. No lense. Peanuts! Wonderful!
Nice image pal.
Fantastic!
Truly impressive!
Thanks Bob
How did you do a 25 second exposure on a Leica M. Can you show us

Great video yet again and shows the quality of the Leica Lenses and here in Ireland we can’t go more than 5km from our home.
Thanks, hope things will get better soon.
sihlsee for the win!

Thanks for your nice comment, Victor. To your question: I have often used Leica-M lenses on non-Leica cameras and they always performed very well.
Fun. Nice image. Do you think the glare from local lights inhibited going deeper? What about image stacking? Have you tried that with the Mono yet?
Did not do image stacking with the mono yet but is an option I will try out for sure this year.
amazing!
Great work, thank you for sharing. I was waiting to see part about focusing the lens! How did you go about that!
Focussing works easy in the night sky shooting, set the lens to infinity and good to go :)
How did you determine exposure time of 25 seconds?

Yes it’s quite poor in terms of long exposures. Time to upgrade?

Cool
Hammer!! ;-)

looking forward to the other image you took with the nikon lens.
Its three "discreet" focal length, means no zoom or continuum in-between. When you change the focal length it does a discrete "click".
@@mathphotographer i see, why is it even a discreet focal length? this is the first time hearing about it? whats the benefit (size being smaller?)

For 14.000 € more or less….you get even a depth of field scale!! How do they do it….? Amazing.
I'm gonna try with a smartphone.
Make sure we get the image to see in a post by you.
