I love the innocent and really kind of an inexperienced sound of her voice. I love hearing Christines who don't sound so operatic, because the phantom says himself "she has much still to learn", so she's supposed to sound a bit less experienced than some of the more well known and older Christines.
He has been teaching her for a while that I feel as though she would have that opera voice. By saying, "she has much to learn" I kinda figured every teacher would say that no?
Girl, I'm 6 years too late but when he tells her she's good but still has a lot to learn, he's trying to convince her to go back to their relationship from before (which she had abandoned at that point in the musical). It's in Notes.../Twisted Every Way...: "As for Miss Christine Daae No doubt she'll do her best It's true, her voice is good She knows, though Should she wish to excel She has much still to learn If pride will let her return to me Her teacher, her teacher Your obedient friend ...and angel"
so I'm currently in another Phantom-obsessed phase lol and after browsing through hundreds of videos on youtube I have to say Harriet is my favorite Christine, even though I've never seen her live. The way she portrays Christine's innocence is rly natural and it makes her Christine so much more lovable
Breathtaking! Ms.Harriet Jones has brought me into Christine's tragic heart. Vocally on point naturally but without integrity it would merely be washed off as melodramatic. Always engaging and sincere. She provides insight to those who don't understand the acting and singing are a whole. Especially for a character such as Christine, it is vital to capture both without straining to do so. She is a true artist. Thank you ever so much for sharing this video! :)
***** Harriet bridges the perfect gap of of being young/wistful and performing properly as a soprano. She can stay in the high register without squeaking but is mostly contemporary. Some would call her raw in comparison to legends Sarah Brightman or Rebecca Caine who have grand posh voices. Which I LOVE as you know. But Harriet makes raw fit just as easily into this score since she isn't out of her depth. Then acting, She doesn't do that. She lives and breathes Christine. Engulfed into the story. Just as the audience deserves. That is why we are enthralled. :)
Wow! That has to be one of my favorite versions. And this a one of the songs that I judge a Christine by as I have performed it myself and it's my favorite song!
If the choices are between whether you will see Celinde or Harriet. You will be good hands for certain. Each lady is so magnificent in her own right. I wish I could be in your shoes. I'd love to hear your review once you have seen the show. :)
She is so underrated. This is so freaking good

Really? I thought the Phantom was just saying that to be an ass. Hahaha
I deeply, deeply appreciate how much thought you've put into this, though. As a fellow phan it does my heart good :)
I love your explanation. When I read the book, I imagined her to have a young soubrette voice.

Harriet Jones looks to me EXACTLY how I picture Christine. She strikes me as very Victorian-looking.
She’s one of my favorite christine
Leaving sunny Queensland in Australia to head to London in 2 weeks time, already have my ticket for the phantom. Looking forward to it

Breathtaking and tragic!
She sung this song so well when I watched POTO yesterday
Another amazing Christine what else can I say about this performance.
My ideal Christine voice is Rebecca Caine’s dreamy, haunting lilt mixed with Harriet’s innocence and emotion

Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister
Harriet Jones, Prime Minister?
Beauty & the Beast brought me here
what is having a name like Harriet Jones is going to earn a whole a lot of ridicule. "Yes, I know who you are." Ha-ha.
this was satire. I'm a comedian I'm a comic I cross the line.
