Saurabh Swami If it is, for example, a bone commander and 2 bone rabbles, you should try to stun the commander and kill off the rabbles. This prevents you from getting fucked hard by a 41 damage crit.
"You could just kill them instead." You could as well not be able to dish out enough damage to kill them. You can't just say "nah don't stun ever just keep hitting them until either of the teams die". If you don't know when to use stuns, bleeds, blights and heals, you're gonna have a bad time.
Well, as he said, it's all situational. Of course if you can't just straight out kill a dangerous opponent and they're vulnerable to a stun, it's better to disable them and deal with the rest first. But if you do have the damage and they're a top priority target, then it's better to just nuke them.
When gonig for bosses, they are *always* in the room farthest away from the start. I mean, I can't guarantee it, but there has never been a case to the contrary. Basically just count the number of steps to get to each room, and the ones farthest away will be where the boss is. Sometimes there is a tie, and you just have to check both.
tanking kinda works if u have enough trinkets, they are very important. with good trinkets u can even hit enemies with status effects who are normally resistant, like shrooms with blight
This was useful information. This video thought me to bring extra supplies each run. And I have noticed a significant return from curio encounters. It's better to dispose of unneeded items in the dungeon....than it is wishing you brought them along. Missing that skeleton key when you scout a secret room is just awful!
+Electrickoolaid A yea dude AOE totally kicks ass you need to run 2 aoe guys with a Jester who can buff crit/acc then with no torches you crit the shit out of everything omg !
Good tips. I agree with almost everything you said here. I didn't thought about moving deathdoor'ed characters to another rank. Usually I have plenty of healin (always not enough though) so maybe thats why. Thank you for the video! =)
Stuns are all about buying time at the cost of reduced raw damage output. They're most effective when the enemy has reduced numbers (after all if you stun all of the one or two remaining monsters, that's essentially a free turn for you), when they hit multiple targets, when there's one REALLY dangerous enemy (NEVER hesitate to stun a boss if they have poor resist, especially if they don't have backup) or when the stun applies some sort of utility you needed anyway (e.g. the Grave robber has Shadow Fade that shifts her backwards and gives her a huge dodge buff, and the Bounty Hunter's Stun Grenade shuffles the enemy into a hopefully more favorable position... hopefully where they can't use their abilities well and where your short-ranged damage dealers can execute them).
Damp can not wait to see you do EQ on Twitch this is going to be a fun follow :). However my question is can you/ will you do these type of review videos for ea class or better still say when to unlock each dlc or tips and tricks now that it is 2019? Thanks regardless :)
I've had to use the retreat from dungeon many times I like immersion and challenge. I will most likely keep going till the end. I find i have learned more about strategy because a situation caused me to think of a positive strategy that would not have been thought of. I find I come up with the best ways to overcome the odds and stumble upon a super critical strategy. Medieval XCOM is what I would call this game I love the random dungeon generation and the rogue like mechanics. Frustrating yet exciting game
As for enemies mostly hitting your front 2 people, this is generally not true when in the "cove". Only a very few of the enemies there will consistently attack your front 2 heroes.
Hi Alex, the great part about DD is the variety of playstyles you can have. I have changed my stance slightly on stun and will update with a new top ten tips video in a few weeks. I highly recommend it in Darkest Dungeon, but outside of that, I still find it less valuable than attacking in most circumstances. Thanks for watching!
I got Darkest Dungeon for the Vita release and so far, I have to agree with you. Every time I try to stun and need it to work, they resist. Every time. Or I miss. I never get a clutch stun when I need it. On the other hand, when I go for damage, I often get clutch crits. Likewise, bleeds and blights can be useful. I'd rather do single damage with a chance to crit and a chance to bleed (tons of skills like this in the game) than try to stun. But I'm not sure I agree with your idea of bringing more shit than you think you need. It slows down your income gain and beginners won't know what not to bring. 3 shovels? Fine. 3 bandages? Probably not. 3 Antidotes? Probably not. The holy water item is kind of an exception because you can bring it and use it to buff if it ends up useless.
***** Thanks for watching. This video will be updated soon and I will adjust my totals on the spreadsheet when I can find someone to do the data entry!
Gonk I've experimented with using stun more over the months and I always have the same problem. When I need to to work, it fails. If I want to heal up before going to the next room, and I stun, I end up failing to get my stun and the enemy crits me, undoing my heals. I focus on DPSing down tough enemies and then healing up while there's only one guy left. IF they're weak to stun, I might toss out a stun, but otherwise I'm better off using other moves. Buffing dodge with Bolster is MUCH better for slow play healing IMO.
+damp's UA-cam Thank you for the video, I can say they are sincerely good tips from the perspective of a newbie who has already seen the endgame on twitch. :)
one of my mistakes...upgrading them weapons and skills then dying after :( I also gave up on checking most of the negative quirks before...will try to look more into them before investing
I mainly use stuns to prevent stress damage. Lets say you where fighting a bone commander, a bone a arbalist and a bone courtier. if the bone courtier has taken its turn, then a stun can prevent stress damage next round. if you have a jester and stress is easy to deal with then the arbalist is better to target. DPS`s them down can be bad since this can limit plays as such as not being able to kill the target. i never stun to heal my team up, i more or less try to kill the thread, i pick between healing and letting a bone veteran for example targeting someone or killing it and not healing. A kill is more valuable then a stun, but if the situation is a 10 hp bone courtier and a highwayman with a 7-12 damage then u really just go for damage since he has no stun. if it was a MAA with 7-12 damage, should he rather stun or try for the kill? post what you would do (if you want to)
Mario Flores That's a valid point. It still helps with taking out multiple enemies, that's my reason for using it. For boss fights, and stronger floor enemies, I usually keep point blank shot. He's my ranged character. I also swap out for the arbalist.
nice guide! thank u! for video editing look for lightworks there is a free version with enough features for beginners, but its very hard to learn. there a are more easy video editings programs like PowerDirector, but they will cost a little bit. have fun
jaaki94 Not how he used to be, but still strong on certain boss fights like the Prophet with Ret and still good in his buffbot role. He's probably top half vs. all heroes.
i disagree, aoe is very efficient for damage. plague doctor and highwayman are exceptional hero's. you tag out when to pd versing undead, tag out hwm versing beasts, humans. and you can keep both versing boss's especially if they have a high prot, you just bleed and blight them to oblivion. Never underestimate two well quirked highwaymen and their items. the dps is amazing. also straight dps tag in graverobber for crits, spec crit acc and one shot a lot of enemies.
Hey bud. I remember you mentioning to not spend money on characters until they're 3rd/4th level in DD. Could I ask you did you also mean by having them visiting the abbey to relieve stress? Do I recall you saying it's cheaper to dump characters and take anew from the carriage?
+Jeepers 07 Yes, please don't spend money on them unless they have a good quirk combo for their particular class. I would dump then take new characters from the stage coach.
Question, maybe it has been asked before...how come you have recommended Cove provisions in the guide? I mean do you have some info the rest of us don't? :P
Richard The Chef Hi Richard! The information is already in the code of the game. Some of my twitch followers helped me with that info! Great question and thanks for watching!
Literally went back and basically watched all your DD videos, yes I know some info isn't 100% useful given stuff was patched/fixed after but you made me a much better player as a 35 year old man who has nothing but mastered RPG's this game had a few small things to do I didn't understand 100% before I saw a lot of your content. Glad I did, ripping through the game now no problem. On my third play through now, not a problem to be had yet at 60 couple weeks. The decisions to kill, heal, defend, stun all steam back to breath of fire, ff, wild arms, xenogears type turn-based RPG's so once I understood what I was lacking to do so about this game thanks to your videos Its been fairly cake-walkish since. EDIT: Subbed ;)
game looks interesting, tryed to play it and it realy pissed me off... i had no idea what i was doing, i had no idea what most of abilities do... i just alt+f4 after like the 4th dungeon when all my guys died (again)
Could you clarify why tanking, stunning and other defensive plays are inneficient with some maths? I don't want to assume this is the case with you but usually people's intuitions tell them to just do damage because it's ''faster'', meanwhile they're playing super inneficiently. But yeah, sometimes the numbers work out so that killing enemies fast is the best way to prevent them from damaging you.
i find that they are not ineffective tactics. It really comes from context. for exampl, there are some fights that you really just need to 1 shot everything. for exampl with spiders. killing a Spider first move, reduces 25% of probabilities on the Spider súper unlucky crit
okdghd ah I see, yeah I imagine the game encourages it in multiple ways with dps race kind of fights, maybe those require a tighter setup than the slower figts in genera?
the necromancer, on the other hand, you shouldnt not tank him, as well as slimes, because the longer you tank, the worse disadvantage you get. un this case, 1 shoting any summon is also an effective tactic. but since both slimes and necro can be stunned no Big deal, you can basically kill them by stunlocking, and they Will only retaliate every third turn. si their action would be reduced by 60%, for the cost of one of your héroes not dealing full damage (assuming all your héroes deal the same, that would be maxium 25%)
Honest: This vid should be calling "Guide for nob gamers who never played a game before" I hoped more "darkest Dungeon only" tips, like: use items instead of spells(you are not wasting a round than) Look which position your member is good(sry if bad eng) It like telling someone who startet with yu ghi oh whats meta if he does not even understand what trap cards are.
Hey Damp, do you have any tips on how to approach higher level quests? I'm getting my hero roster with more lvl3 members, but I can only give them lvl2 gear right now.
+Hizsoo Ensure you have everyone's skills and weapons leveled up before you approach the higher quests. I prioritize DPS and scouting over stuns and blights/bleeds. Hope that helps!
Hey, new guy here too--what would you advise prioritizing: guild hall or Blacksmith, and (if blacksmith), should I prioritize increasing armor or weapon levels?
The grapeshot tip is actually very bad, highwayman is super op right now, even for beginners. in my setup i have double highwayman and even if they dont kill things, they hit 3 targets each time they shoot, and if they crit, ohh man. Also on the deeds note, the guild requires paintings, not deeds.
Nills erik Highwayman is only OB bc of the ancestral. In spite of that, point blank always outperforms grape shot. Yes the guild requires portraits instead of the deeds. I just meant that deeds was most important due to the BS, and Stagecoach! Thanks for the feedback Nills!
CelerityNova Thank you for the feedback! I would ask you to consult Tycrus1 as he is the only guy I know who has over 500 hours in the game. We both have agreed previously that AOE is very weak and not worth the turn. Either way it is good to get feedback and thank you for watching! We will keep you posted after more testing from 8855!
damp's UA-cam And you know that celerity here is the mod maker of deepest dark and probably has more played then him? tycrus plays his mods, so i believe celerity when i say that, we also discussed this way back, and most singletarget spell are just plain out bad in the vanilla game, in the mods however single target is abit better because of circumstances. The vanilla game is super easy, you spank a bunch of trinkets on your dmg dealers, spamm AoE and win the game basicly, if it was a boss run sure, i would go for single target, but on overall regular dungeons, no way. I have over 300 hours into the game aswell, i cant help but feel like you are just looking down on me or something, like i was some scrub. Hehe. I'm ZirzoR btw, this youtube acc is just a random name, its not anything i use.
Thanks for the feedback, but still will disagree. All of my advice is based around vanilla. But that is part of what I like about the game, that there are many different ways to play!
Celerity, haven't been ignoring you, was on vacation with little to no reception. I am looking at making a follow up video response based on some of the feedback I've gotten. Thanks for contiuing to offer feedback on the videos.
+Seatstain z Optimal is what gives you the most chance to survive while encurring the least amount of stress as stress is a bottleneck of gold. You can come out of the dungeon with little health and everyone is reset to full, but stress costs you a significant amount of gold. IMO, always run healer until you are very experience with mechanics. I rarely run without a healer as it can be a suicide run when encountering the collector at random.
Thank you for all the videos... I am constantly gold starved.. because I invested in Skills and stress reduce and to get rid of bad quirks, when my characters where good. So should I start a new playthrough and not invest in any chars at all untill i got 80.000 Gold saved up ? What about bosses ? are the doable without chars I have invested in ? And should I only do boss runs when the trinket is good? otherwise do other runs until the trinket is one I desire...? Thanks a lot !
+RAWxxx07 Basically, never intentionally save money unless you are expecting you are going into a dungeon you might lose to.Being constantly gold starved is no problem, gold that is just sitting there is gold that is not being used to invest in your characters right now. And if you need a little bit of extra gold, just sell a trinket you don't like or don't really need. Invest in your characters whenever you can.If you are having trouble with stress you need to first invest into the carriage so you can build up a bigger roster. About 16 people is a nice start. When you have that you can use your spare money on upgrades, because you don't constantly need to heal stress. Also consider taking a jester and a crusader and putting them on stress heal duty when you have a moment to spare during the fights. This can make you come out of a dungeon with less stress than you came in with.As for boss runs, I would advice you to upgrade your characters as much as possible. It's not impossible to do underleved not upgraded characters boss runs, but you have a high chance of losing someone. And you can always wait until a trinket comes up that you like more. You are never in a rush in Darkest Dungeon since there is no way to lose the game as of yet.Regarding quirks, only heal them in the sanitarium if they are really bad. Other wise wait until the sanitarium is more upgraded and it isn't so expensive anymore. Always heal diseases, it's a lot cheaper than healing quirks, so it won't hurt your budget too much. And diseases generally are more punishing.Later in the game (around level 3-4 dungeons) you should be rolling in the money and this won't be as much an concern anymore.
removing bad quirks esrly is good but only on the heroes you think will keep and can last long. Sometimes some of them is just not worth investing, with the stress reducings, try to unlock the stress heal skills in characters like hound, joker, crusader, keep your party at low stress at all times and you dont have to spend much on stress relieve after missions. At least thats how i do it, and for skill upgrades its the same, only really invest in them if they are worth (for me i usually do them when heroes gets to lvl 3+ or has to do a boss)
I think stun is good to prevent any stress damage enemies
you could just kill them instead
Saurabh Swami If it is, for example, a bone commander and 2 bone rabbles, you should try to stun the commander and kill off the rabbles. This prevents you from getting fucked hard by a 41 damage crit.

stun the last sure win monster to let your healer have extra turns to heals who ever need it.
Imo, one of the most important things to remember, is to wear proper trinkets everytime. It's a huge boost to your party
Thank you for this. I picked this awesome game up during the sale, but I'm getting crushed constantly. I can't wait to put these tips to the test.
Jimmy Ward You're welcome! Thank you for watching! Check me on live on twitch and ask anything you need help with there too!

Thank you for the video and the guide this will really help me get some momentum going on my playthoughs.
jpeacocks4 Awesome. Glad it helped!
I stun when there is 1 enemy left, and I can just stun lock them for a good time, and I can heal my people's health without them being attacked.
So awesome how you upped your audio in later videos, proud of you
Lol the more guides I look up the worse I get at this game
+Electrickoolaid A yea dude AOE totally kicks ass you need to run 2 aoe guys with a Jester who can buff crit/acc then with no torches you crit the shit out of everything omg !
01:10 For stun.
Its great if you wanna delay the battle end so you can heal or reduce stress with bard.

Biggest tip I could give is “know your curios” knowledge is power

I usually only use stun to avoid stress. Stun and stun trinkets have saved me a lot of money.
As for enemies mostly hitting your front 2 people, this is generally not true when in the "cove". Only a very few of the enemies there will consistently attack your front 2 heroes.
I disagree on your take on not using Stun as a regular battle tool.

My team is really focused on marking with the hounds man and the bounty hunter. I'm in level 2 dungeons doing 30 damage a hit, it's great
woah, I had never thought of dismissing high level heros! I felt that I had to keep them
great tips! I have problems with stress managing. when characters need to go to the church or something. cause it really costs alot...
Really helpful, concise and well spoken, thanks :)
+Shaun Macdonald Thank you for watching! New Abom video coming up next week!
+damp's UA-cam Thank you for the video, I can say they are sincerely good tips from the perspective of a newbie who has already seen the endgame on twitch. :)
my main tip is : screw everything and build up town to max, then play normally
one of my mistakes...upgrading them weapons and skills then dying after :(
I also gave up on checking most of the negative quirks before...will try to look more into them before investing
Great vid! Explained a lot of the stuff I was confused about 👍
Crappy guide IMO. A good guide gives good general tips. Telling everybody your opinion isn't a tip, it's just relating your way of playing.
Jolly Voqar wow you suck
RenaWelp34 no u
thanks, i did started over like 5 times now, but with your AOE tip ill play another one
Super helpful, thanks!

went into week 30 something and I realized I pretty much screwed myself completely. Gotta start over with this new info :(
I think the Grapeshot ability is very useful when you've buffed the hell out of a highwaymans damage
Keldog 1260 an ability that needs to be buffed to be good is not a good ability.
Mario Flores That's a valid point. It still helps with taking out multiple enemies, that's my reason for using it. For boss fights, and stronger floor enemies, I usually keep point blank shot. He's my ranged character. I also swap out for the arbalist.

It like telling someone who startet with yu ghi oh whats meta if he does not even understand what trap cards are.
+Sultan Check my video on town upgrades!
+damp's UA-cam what is your opinion of the abomination?
Hi Mike, he's strong, I think if you balance him with the right party he is currently one of the best in the game.
damp's UA-cam ya, i mean what other unit regenerates after combat?
+damp's UA-cam so how about the abomination, an occultist, a highwaymen, and an man at arms.
awesome tip!!
+Aj Antonio Thanks for watching!
Name everyone "Kenny" from South Park... cuz they're gonna die.
You can crit on a DoT right? And it does super DoT damage instead?
Noob reporting in....
Thx
What's your opinion on healers vs dmg+buffers? I find myself using a healer most of the time, but not sure what's optimal.
10:33 this is a crommet.
I always stun the Stress characters.
Stun is much improved from where it was when I made this video. I will have a new version of this coming for Crimson Court.
Oh nice, thanks for the heads up.
Crusader shits all over man at arms.
thx a lot catch +
thanks!
start over? as in make a new game??
The game has left Early Access.
8th = Good IDEA
I'll have you know AOE parties get the job done.
Save to 80000! I can hardly get to 10000
+Austin Gordon Try dark runs early on to save on provisions. Throw away the heroes after.
haha you have a char called mexikunt
I restart 7 times for this game. Now I restart again....! damn a new DLC coming too.
nebunie mare moncher :D
hey am just gonna sub if ure wanna get famous xD
Analthrash69.. XD hahaha
